Did a blind of 2016,2017 and 2020, 2021 Rare Breed. The 16 and 17 walked all over 20 and 21 bottlings. Significantly less Oak on the newer bottlings.

They used to put the ages of the whiskeys in the blend on the website, but they took those ages off the description. So I assume they are putting younger whiskeys in the RB blend.

@@xiamengbaby 💯 the older barrels that used to be in the blend are now being used for RR13, WT Father Son 13, and now the 12 year 101. Disappointing, but they are just following what BT has done by creating new pull through demand by creating "new" bottlings from the stock they already have.

Mash & Drum noticed the loss of the oak and sweeter profile of this years Russell's 10 in a recent video. I also noticed how candy this years Rare Breed was in a blind. Could be a conscious choice to go sweeter as a company profile or that RR 13 put a real hurtin' on the older stocks.

WT101 is just a stronger version of WT81, Rare Breed is a stronger version of WT101. Once one of the stores nearby had it in stock, I replaced all my WT101 with it. They all taste the same, since it's all one product, but the intensity of the taste in Rare Breed is what gives me goosebumps. On top of that it's the cheapest cask strength whiskey I've ever seen. Can it get better than that? )

I know this is an unpopular opinion but the rare-breed is kinda boring to me. It's not a bad bourbon by any means. It's just that there is not that much depth of flavor, it has an OK mouthfeel, and is a mostly forgettable bourbon in terms of the overall experience. It's main draw for me is that it is a barrel proof expression that is both affordable and widely available. But, when when I'm willing to spend an extra 10-15$, OF 1920 will always be preferred over this. Great episode!

8.5 is a great score-kudos to WTWT and Wild Turkey. Rare Breed is definitely my go-to, but also Rare Breed RYE is harder to find but spectacular. I found it in Louisiana on a fishing trip and bought up all the RBR they had. For me, it’s right up there with Woodinville Rye (locals help me acquire) and Pikesville (which I’ve also hoarded). Rare Breed bourbon is my yardstick for whether I would buy anything more expensive, as in “I could buy five bottles of RBB or this bottle.”

I just can’t get into Rare Breed…. I’ve tried a few times but it’s just doesn’t taste so great to me. Also, this and WT 101 I get the most brutal headaches from. No other bourbon does this to me. Oh well :(

Not a fan of rare breed or any Russell’s products (I tried them all except RR13) Have an old bottle of 101 and it’s just fine. Don’t like the Turkey funk and use them for mixers only. I’ll take OGD114 or OF1920 over RR any-day. That leaves more Turkey for you guys!
