You still have Woolworth’s there? Nice! I haven’t been in a Woolworth’s in… I can’t even remember how long! I actually got some of my first fish from Woolworth’s when I was a kid in the ‘80s. ;) Back when department stores actually carried live fish. Not my preferred place to get them even then, but they did surprisingly well and I eventually got my parents to take me to the local fish store. ;) The whiptails are freaking amazing! And the long fin lemon blue-eyed bristlenose plecos are so very beautiful. I also love the peppermint bristlenose and the zebras. So many varieties! Same with the corys. More varieties than I’ve ever seen but I’ve been out of the fish keeping game for several years. I miss having fish very much and hope to get a tank or two set up again in the near future. I think I may have to go and check out the availability of some of these here in the States. ;) Thanks for the interesting and informative videos!

honest i found whiptails easy to raise from egg.. what i did was scrape them off the glass with a sharp edge and just chuck them in there own small filtered heated container and wait till they hatch add meaty foods like hikari carnivore wafers when egg sakes have gone. thats it!

The twig catfish love green food. Break down some pellets or flakes(not to much) in really small pieces and mix it with spirulina powder and water. It shouldnt be a liquid but more like a paste. Then put it over any little bit rough surface in a REALLY thin layer. You can use like any stone. I use my fingers for that. Let it dry for 2 days and then you can feed it. You can mix in like any ingredient you like. Watch out for ingredients that contain a high amount of protein or fat. The green food eating species only get fat (Organs) and not in the good way. That should work especially for raising whiptail fry. Keep the good work up man :)

Apologies for the block of text. I feed my twig catfish Hikari algae wafers (the large wafer size) which also contain vegetable ingredients, which I throw in after the tank lights are out & just before I turn off the room's lights, as they cannot compete with the other fish. I've got an army of Malaysian trumpet snails, which is why I feed the larger wafers instead of the smaller ones, as the snails can't pull those under, giving the twig catfish the time to eat. Aside from that they may graze on green algae and suck on wood, of which the latter is a must-have. The also have a small piece of sepia, just in case they might need the calcium, don't know if they actually use it, so that's just a precaution. The "nose" of the female twig's are thin and convex, while the nose of the male is shaped like that of a sawfish, complete with tiny "teeth" when sexually mature (about 2 years). My adults are about 17cm long, but they can get 25cm long, so a tank length of at least 120cm is important for adults to avoid injury when spooked because, while they are *very* poor swimmers they can still dart forward pretty fast and may injure that lovely nose of theirs. The female moves around the tank over time, while the males will stick to a certain territory, I've got one on the front glass who I can always see and one in the back, who I *never* see unless I start moving plants aside during a water change. Once a month, the female will join a male with a suitable territory and lay her eggs (about 50), which he fertilises. After having done so the male chases the female away and guards the eggs, covering them with his body (ideally), testing them for viability and fanning them. It may take multiple nest for the male to actually get the hang of defending the nest. The first time he'd abandon it as soon as I'd approach, now I need to get him to attack and latch on to a flat, broad tool so I can safely move him out of the way. The eggs start hatching after 7-8 days. I've hatched the first nest in a separate, dedicated tank and the second nest in a different community tank. Both tanks had green algae aplenty, wood and sepia, but the community tank had competition from a colony of neocaridina shrimp, 3 amano shrimp and 3 otocinclus. The result is that the first nest has 14 survivors which are all at least 6,5 cm at 7 months old whereas the second nest has only one survivor who is barely half that despite being just one month younger, meaning a stunted growth rate. I tried giving the fry Repashy Soilent Green after they hatched, just before their yolk-sacs were depleted, but since there was plenty of green algae in the tank they never touched the stuff much. At 1,5 to 2 months they can eat the same food as adults. A breeding report I've read suggest the fry can be moved to a new home after 3 months, but unless they're moved to another raising tank my advice would be to wait and them grow more. I've only put up an ad after they were 5-6 months old and at least 5,5 cm.
