Rare CN Meet At Broadview Illinois

This was a same direction meet but both trains were facing east as they sat just west of 17th Avenue.... #CN
This was a fun one to record. Tracks shown are the old Illinois Central Railroad's "Iowa Service," Blue Island Illinois to Council Bluffs Iowa.The Canadian National now owns that line and is a single track main, but at Broadview Illinois, where there is an interchange with the Indiana Harbor Belt, the track doubles if you are going east. I spotted the rear of a train as I crossed these CN tracks back in Hillside. The end of a long freight was stopped just east of the Oak Ridge grade crossing. Usually the eastbound trains do not stop like that which motivated me to drive down to Broadview. This is where it got interesting. I had just recorded a couple of clips of the stopped trains power when a second train silently came up off the Harbor Belt. I was changing spots, and had only turned my back for a moment, when the second set of power arrived. The next neat thing was that the second train let off a crewman who would throw a switch and he was carrying a broom to do the job. Well, the switchpoints were clean and the clips with this crewman came out pretty nice. I did chat with him for just a second and he confirmed that his train came off the IHB and that he would be the first to get going. That is where I got some nice clips of the power going past as well as some representative rolling stock. The original train sat for almost an hour more. When it got going, I was able to get a bunch of clips from the other side. I spent an hour and a half in Broadview and even though it was only five frigid degrees, I had a great time!

On the other hand we could eliminate unemployment forever, if we make all switches manual and keep a guy on them... LOL! Yeah, Seems like a mixture of new technologies and old track layouts...?

so I take it the next west bound will stop too re align the switch? if it goes back too the IHB? or just continue on too blue island

It might have a spring switch for one direction? I can't remember where I heard that..? Drat! Maybe they use maintainers to throw the switch? There are always a bunch around.
