My grandfather flew the DC-3 along "the hump" into then-allied China in WWII. He was a shuttling pilot, though- he flew the DC-3s from state-side to their respective operations bases, _but not_ the missions that they would be used for. After WWII, he worked for Douglas, Learjet and Boeing (contributed to the creation of the then-new 747!).

I was in Anchorage back in July, 2024 and just moved up here to work on aircraft at the airport, but I've been settling in after a very long drive from Florida to here. I believe that DC-3 is owned by DesertAir, my classmates and I got to tour their air fleet and they were talking about a second rebuilt DC-3 with turboprops they had just acquired, so they started to fly their radial DC-3s less. Got to go inside the parked radials and take photos, it was a cool experience. The owner had taken the pristine looking DC-3 turbo to the Arctic Thunder open house at Elmendorf, so my classmates and I couldn't get an inside look at the turboprop version. The DC-3 is also making the turn off at about the right area to head to DesertAir's parking, if I am seeing the angle of the runway correctly. Edit- Tried combing my videos of the airshow to see if it was the exact plane number, but I only have a slight part of the tail and the nose of the plane in view, I was a little too busy recording the F22s and Tornado demonstrations. I do have a frontal picture, but the tail number is not visible. I also checked photos from a visit to Lyndon Air Cargo, we got to see N407LC, but the L382 in this video is their N408LC which was out on the tarmac when we visited their company. 407 was inside their hanger.

The DC-3 is a Bassler conversion using 1,750 hp Pratt & Whitney PT-6 turbines for power. The turbine conversion is becoming necessary in the North because some communities no longer have Aviation gasoline available. There are places where you can only find jet fuel in large quantities so the turbine aircraft can get into more villages.
