Hurricanes only affect coastal areas at a dangerous level. They quickly lose power once they hit land, and Atlanta is far inland. They'll just get some heavy rain.

Looks like Perry and Hampton Springs are in the bullseye, fortunately the area it appears will make landfall is sparsely populated -- the Wildlife Management Areas should make a good wind break to lessen the damage further inland.

You may have difficulty contacting them as the power and phone lines and cell towers have to be in bad shape. If there's any good news the landfall didn't happen at high tide so storm surge should be less than it could have been. Two years in a row for Perry.

In the 1996 movie Twister, Bill Paxton's character says... "They call F5 tornadoes the 'finger of god'; few have stared one in the face and survived". This hurricane might feel like "the hand of God" in some areas. I've experienced 2 derechos (land hurricanes) here in Illinois (winds speeds between 80-120 mph...spawning random tornados in the bad spots along the storm front...) so I can only hope and pray for those getting hit with 140-155 mph winds and 20ft storm surges!! Hang in there Florida!!
