Probably has to do with the old tough guy mentality seen in the FDNY. I saw videos of guys in New York coming out of buildings that are literally POURING with smoke near 0 visibility wearing absolutely no respiratory protection. The departments around me require the firefighters to wear full protection if they are putting out a car fire, never mind entering a Smokey building. The city of San Francisco had one fire boat in 1989, the almost sold it in 1987. That fire boat saved the Marina District buy pumping water out of the bay to emergency hydrants during the Loma Prieta Earthquake in 1989. They now have three fire boats.

Mind you, the hose could've been connected to the hydrant output on the bow of the fireboat when they ran out of water on "5". Then there's the question of why no hydrants in the tunnel or along the road there, it's pretty standard requirement over here and in Europe, 1 hydrant at least every 100' even if the pipe and hydrants are run along the outside of the carriageway facing the river.

So does FDNY have adapters to allow the refilling of fire trucks from fire boats? might be an easy connection to make and keep on the fireboats so no do many would be needed. . yes.. i know its salt water.. but its not hard to wash that out of the trucks when the incident is done.. look at how san francisco has portable fire mains that connect to fireboats.. allow fire protection of the city when the water pressure is lost in the mains.

@mfd784 жыл бұрын
@@1582len Well, that's kinda what it's designed for. I used a 1% foam mix every time I pumped a car fire. Water penetrates better with foam, you use less water, fire goes out faster, it extinguishes any class B fires, and can even work on Mg fires! Did you see they were having problems getting the fuel fire extinguished? They ended up just splashing undiluted foam on the ground and whipping it up by spraying water on it. They had a hand line right there usually you just push a button and foam comes out mixed with the water.
