Fantastic moment captured ... your patience paid off as your clip is fascinating. Incredible how the sunbeam snake kept employing an almost wrestling headlock-like knot that really thwarted the krait. The wet conditions and great resolution really captured the irridescence of their scales too. Nice shooting.

This is one of the best if not the best snake fight I've seen! The longest held headlock/head scissors ( almost 14 minutes including that brief interlude where the ants were bothering them and the sunbeam snake released it and relocked it a bit later ) recorded as far as I know. Have seen another great fight recorded by a family out for a hike in the Philippines, when they came upon them, one snake was employing the same headlock/head scissors strangle hold defense against a bigger snake which sporadically but furiously tried to thrash its way free to no avail. The kids were thoroughly entertained as they couldn't believe how the smaller snake was dominating the bigger snake, but after around 12 minutes the father decided to end the fight and hit the snakes with a stick to break them up. As soon as the bigger snake was released it slithered away, not wanting any more of this punishment!

Well done for capturing this amazing sequence. The Krait did have its fangs in the Sunbeam Snake and it seems unlikely, given the size and vigour of the Krait, that it lacked venom. The Sunbeam Snake's immunity seems to have won the evolutionary arms race, and the Krait will have been at quite a disadvantage for some time after this encounter. Not only for the physical energy expended in the wrestling match, but one can only assume that it had expended most of, if not all, of its venom. There was a point in the encounter where the Krait, in all the contorted confusion, seemed about to bite itself; I wonder how fatal this might have been for the elapid.

Phenomenal footage. My first time watching a Malayan krait hunt. Yes, kraits are snake eaters, but their neurotoxic venom acts slowly, at least on mammalian physiology although it's highly toxic based upon murine LD50 values. I believe the Indian and banded kraits are more efficient snake hunters. The krait here is gorgeous. I really like their black and white patterns.
@Vain-Voyager4 жыл бұрын
@@revelation13_9 I believe different kraits have quite variable toxicity based upon murine LD50 values. The multi-banded krait here should be the most venomous on land in Asia, even more so than all cobras & mambas in Africa (subcutaneous injection), while the larger cousin, banded krait, is less venomous than most cobras. The Indian krait is slightly less toxic than the multi-banded krait which is still the 2nd toxic on land in Aisa. I don't know much about the Malayan one. Gonna check the LD50 list again for this species.

Best snake fight ever! Badass move from 2:27 by the Sunbeam wrapping up the Krait in a long-held headlock! I would think after that escape that the krait wouldn't be dumb enough to pursue the sunbeam and get caught in another headlock but it did. I kept hoping the sunbeam would squeeze hard enough to strangle the Krait but it just wasn't big or strong enough.

That was one of the most exciting snake herpeing vidoes that I have ever seen! That little snake fought like a champ. I bet that the ants biting the mouth of that crate snake had a lot to do with its survival. That would have been extremely painful as well as stressful having all those ants biting the soft tissue in its mouth. Some ants also have a venom or other means of defence if there disturbed. There was no point for the sunbeam snake to bite back as its bite would cause no harm. Had it strike back, locking its jaw on the krait's body would've put itself to higher risk of being attacked on the head and be killed. If you observe, the sunbeam instead was trying to move its head away from the krait and used his energy wisely on getting away while controlling the krait's head (rather than fighting back). That's his only chance of surviving.

The Sunbeam Snake definitely is immune to the venom of the Krait.Any other animals pretty much would die.A few other snakes like King Cobras may be immune, Also one herper reported a Gecko dying almost instantly from a Krait bite.Humans on the other hand,may live for a few hours and not feel inmediate pain,but then the lungs and heart begin to shut down.People over in southeast Asia pick Kraits up saying they don't bite during the daytime,but the risk of dying if you get bit ,or suffer irreparable damge is just overwhelming.

Obviously you shouldn't help the Sunbeam escape because it could lead to even more problems for both snakes.
