@@Curt6900what's Copenhagen like if you don't mind me asking? Do you like living there? I live in the States, a rather poor and depressed one, however I like living here as its all I know. And tho it's economic situation is pretty bleak its very beautiful here especially now in the early summer. Im connected to it for better or worse.

I was in high school 67 - 70 ..I worked at a gas station/service station, I had my third car by the time I got my drivers license at 16. In those days, the best part of any car was the radio, we had the Beatles, the kinks, the stones, Jimi Hendrix, the doors. Iron butterfly, cream, the Yardbirds, Jefferson, airplane, Santana, traffic, Alvin, Lee, vanilla fudge, Big brother in the holding company, Bachman-turner overdrive, Robin Trower, spirit, The moody blues, The rascals, The Who, the guess who, Marshall Tucker, the Allman Brothers, Steppenwolf, Joe Cocker, pink Floyd, Black Sabbath, Grand, funk, Creedence, Clearwater, yes,, And best of all, Led Zeppelin.. I remember exactly where I was the first time I heard Jimi Hendrix play foxy Lady on the radio in my 1959 Pontiac Catalina convertible.. it gave me chills, I never heard a guitar chord like that. It sounded Distorted and out of tune, but it was loud, especially after I pulled over and turned the radio all the way up.. I feel a little sorry for kids today. They missed it

When I was a kid my family moved to Bedfordshire UK mid 1960’s and me nanny used to take me along to see some live shows-so one week Englbert Humperdink was passing through town so I went along as he had a hit at the time-to my surprise the opening act was Hendrix. I’ve been retelling that story for 60 years-no I’ve finally been validated, thanks Amplified!!

Hey Joe shows footage from 1966 to a sound recording from 1968/1969. What you hear is at least two years apart from what you see. In the case of Jimi Hendrix, this makes a huge difference.

He skipped the autopsy report. JH blood alcohol was nearly nil while his lungs were full of wine. That doesn't get told by tabloids or mainstream still today. That does not happen accidentally. SRV somberly said about Jimi's death that "he had a little help, I'll leave it there".

Yes. He was held down in the tub with a dude on each arm and a dude forcing the wine bottle down his throat. Jimi's manager owed a huge amount of gambling debt to a Britain mob faction so they took Hendrix life to punish him. The managers plane exploded in mid air later on.. Hendrix was murdered.

Genius? This adulation has always puzzled. He was good at producing sounds and acting up on stage, but you can't actually listen to this and feel anything. Overrated guitarist, a throaty voice like any dozen blues shouters and mere cult figure, cool with his bandanna and amps and sound enhancements like wah wah pedals. Knew how to maximize his pop appeal among impressionable youths.
@MrCherryJuice
@MrCherryJuice Ай бұрын
Agreed. And I don't mean that negatively - he was great at doing his thing. But his fame had more to do with right time, right place. And the likes of Clapton, Townshend and Jeff Beck (himself the real iconoclast of the lot) voicing their awe certainly provided the approval necessary for unquestioned acceptance. For me, it was Mitch Mitchell's drumming that made the Hendrix Experience work. The juxtapose of his jazzy-funky boogaloo style coupled with Jimi's intergration of r&b rhythms and effects-enhanced soloing, plus many tremendous tunes ('I Don't Live Today', 'Third Stone From the Sun', 'Castles Made of Sand', 'Crosstown Traffic...) combined for a very unique proposition during a period of tumultous musical change (with Cream and the Beatles leading the way). Check this clip with Ronnie Wood and his pre-Jeff Beck band the Birds (not the Byrds). Cue in at 42 seconds in the link below to hear the distortion and riff that very well might have inspired 'Purple Haze', which followed a year later. Coincidence? Hmmmmm.... kzbin.info/www/bejne/emfbeJePrceEqas

@@MrCherryJuice thanks for this educated comment. Usually questioning the Jimmy Hendrix pedestal is regarded as sacrilage and causes furious responses. But you've got it right, the right act at the time. I don't mind if anyone likes his music but without being an expert, I simply can't understand the appeal of the heavy handed almost clumsy riffing in Purple Haze, for instance. Nor do I follow this cult around him aided no doubt by the approval of other so-called " guitar gods" as you rightly say.
