I can't believe how many people say in the comments that they where thinking of Levon today I read his book and watched his interviews for years and I to am one of the people who think of Levon today but it is not because of the books or interviews I he had this energy with people he was real and honest and kind and someone on a PBS special a fan remarked she was sitting up front during a concert he would have on his Farm and property that at the end people would stick there hand out to shake his hand and she said to him"you know I just Love you " and he said" I know and I just Love you darlin " he wasn't boasting when he said "I know" so this went on down the line after t and they would tell him how his music touched them and it was if it was the first time he had heard this when he hears it all the time but it was a kind way of making it about them and not himself or the band what a great soul

Love it!!!! I was up in Woodstock at a midnight Ramble in early 2012. What an experience. Levon sang the weight. Quite hard bec ause of his throat. Still belted it out and covered the kit very well. Also, the encore was The Weight. One of the most magical intimate music events I have ever attended. Amy Helm was fantastic on vocals as well. Larry Campbell

Levon was the only drummer I know of, that instead of drumming the beat and keeping time and rhythm, played his drums like an instrument other than drums. If that made sense. It is hard to explain. But like his intro to this song. It was more than percussion. That said, the Band were so good. They marked an iconic change in music. Not only that. They established and led it.

The Band was a Canadian-American roots rock group formed in Toronto, Ontario in 1968 by Rick Danko (bass guitar, vocals), Garth Hudson (keyboards), Richard Manuel (piano, vocals), Robbie Robertson (guitar), and Levon Helm (drums, vocals). Rock music's very, very best live show was "The Last Waltz" and yet we so very, very rarely ever hear this overwhelming FACT spoken or given the credit it deserves! Man do I miss Levon, Rick, and Richard. In my heart, Richard was an absolute tragedy. I miss them all, and I favored Levon and Rick of them all, but Richard's life is a real heart breaker. He was such a genuine, down to earth, great brother. Jack Canada born in Toronto 1962

I adore THE BAND. The first time (actually the only time) I saw them was in 1965 at the Hollywood Bowl. I was just 16, stole my mom's '65 Chevy Impala and scared shitless, white-knuckled it up I-5 from Newport Beach to the Bowl to see Dylan after his Newport, RI Fest "Scandal"... He did all his great old acoustic stuff first half... then after the intermission some ROCK BAND came on. After a few minutes, impatiently, I turned to the male couple on my right and asked, "Excuse me - Do you know when DYLAN is coming back on?" They gestured, "Uh - that is Dylan!" "Oh..." I uttered, confused, surprised. That was Dylan going electric with THE BAND as his backup... what a great memory! And, btw, my mom NEVER figured it out! 😃
