Well as what I knew about it, an era including Y2K have so many bits of pieces that made it iconic and nostalgic either both fashion, music, pop culture, etc. that made the whole idea bigger and varied than what we already knew about it. It's just the fans were so pressed about it, but it's just fine for that concept not being "owned" by few artists regardless who did it first because any idea is wider and bigger than what we thought. It's a trend that may come from anywhere more than what we thought where it started probably influence from the west knowing companies also get services from foreign music producers. It's fresh to consider pointing out that producers choose to stick on genres like UK Garage Beat, lo-fi, drum & bass, etc. making it newer than the usual sound that we hear in the industry lately prior to this. Still the whole concept has many things to explore more than being "owned" by few artists. It's more of how fans see it and how mature they are to notice it.

@@joaquincollet4291at's because cocteau twins literally invented and perfectioned the dream pop sound back when it wasn't even separated from shoegaze, loonatic is clearly not as classic dreampop and has many alt rock and upbeat pop elements to not make it to niche and weird for the audience not used to that kind of sound, but it indeed has a major dream pop feeling and elements such as dreamy vocals and synths, and obviously the distorted guitars (in the dreampop/shoegaze way) something you rarely find in other kpop songs and even within the other examples given, i think loonatic is the most representative song of this genre, alongside with borderline by sunmi in the shoegaze side
