I always liked Nilsson’s Tosca, despite the lack of a real Italian sound. Nobody could beat Tebaldi, Price, Caballe in that department. But many fans derided Behrens’s Tosca, just as they’re now hissing at Lise Davidsen. I like all these interpretations, although it’s nice to hear an Italianate voice in the role. Corelli is Corelli - great voice, still Corelli, whatever the role. Ouch!
