I remember when my mother would be watching some of these shows and back then as a child I didn't realize how great Hank Williams, Sr., really was. And I didn't like the old country music that much. But, I have to say: as I came to be an adult and had my heart broken, I realized what a jewel he really was. I have all of his songs. Now, I don't know about you But, in my opinion I have to say: He sang from the heart. What you heard from him --- was who he really was. I wished I'd been his girl.

This truly is a memorable performance, for sure! While I’ve been a Carter fan literally since I began teaching myself guitar from Jerry Silverman’s book, “The Folksinger’s Guitar Guide, Book 1,” long, long ago, I only recently learned of Roy Acuff in a performance of "’Will the Circle Be Unbroken” with the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band.” He sure is tall in this video! I see Anita and June Carter in this video hear them both in each, too. June’s so excited that she’s near to flying off the stage! Yes, Hank Williams is fine, too.

It looks more like Helen Carter to me, but it's hard to tell for sure. It could be Anita. Mother Maybelle Carter is behind and to the right of June, and can be seen between June and Roy. This is a Kinescope film of an appearance of Roy and other "Opry" performers on the "Kate Smith Evening Hour" from 1952. They appeared on her show twice. Once in March and again in April of 1952.

Sang just months before his death. Hank was a troubled soul and self medicated. Fired from the Opry and alcohol/Pills. However if you listen to His voice he was at his prime and it was his time. I believe he knew his time was short on this earth and gave us so much on so little time. Remember he was only 29.

I went to the Carter Fold unannounced. Nothing was happening but Sarah's grand daughter answered the door and told me it was a shame I was so late cause she just cleaned dinner up and I could've joined them for beans. Feeling welcome I asked if I could pitch a tent in the yard. She said sure you can sleep in the music room if you want. I did surrounded by priceless Carter Family memorabilia she said you just missed Johnny lastweek. Turned out to be his last public performance. It's on youtube too. I told her I knew you were going to be this nice that's why I stopped and knocked. She said, "Well we are just simple country people." You all need to go on a pilgrimage to Hiltons VA sometime and pay your respects.
