RARE! Malaysian Airline System Boeing 747-3H6M Departing LAX

9M-MHK (cn 23600/650) "Kota Kinabalu" Recorded in 1989
This classic was the only 747-300 in the Malaysia Airlines fleet. She served most of her life (1986 - 2002) in Malaysia. She went on to serve for Dragonair Cargo as B-KAC. When she was first delivered, she had a "Kuala Lumpur - Los Angeles 1986" insignia celebrating their new route, here you see the "Visit Malaysia Year 1990" logo proudly displayed. Sadly broken up in April 2009.
BTW, the cargo door is visible on this Combi, behind the wing on the left side.

Malaysian Airline System, the name they adopted when Malaysia Singapore Airlines (MSA) split in 1972 and MAS n Singapore Airlines wereborn. Mas is 'gold' in the Malay language and MAS' tagline was 'On Golden Service' in those days.

I flew on this aircraft in the summer of 1988 LAX - NRT - LAX. I spent about 45 minutes on the flight deck on the return leg. Great memory seeing this video!

i was so happy that they brought back one of their 744s and dressed her in their historical livery... Unfortunately she had to go back to the hangar... and currently still unserviceable... due to poor structural condition... sob sob

I spotted this MAS 747-300 one evening at the Tom Bradley International Terminal about 1990 or 1991 when I was a law student at Pepperdine. Same livery. It was thrilling to see it then. Thrilling to see this magnificent video record.

Those good old days...first time flight untuk further studies ke USA, 1988, pesawat MAS DC-10 (logo baru) from Subang Airport, stopover di Narita, kemudian sambung lagi ke Los Angeles. Habis studies, balik naik flight MAS dari LAX Boeing 747 (logo lama, kalau tak silap). Thank you MAS for the good memories, thank you MAS for your excellent service. I can't forget those memorable trips sampai hari ni 👍👍👍😊.

My heart aches for this machines. These were the days when an aircraft's sound was as big as its frame, and when tri-jets dominated the skies. While I love today's aircraft too, I just miss the giant aircraft of my childhood deeply...if I could go back in time for any reason, it would be to catch a day at LAX or JFK in 1989.

It's gone because the Jawi writings - which is basically Malay language written in Arabic font - is passé. Not many Malays write in Jawi nowadays, and few can read it even especially the younger generations.

747-3H6M The M means it is a Combi version (half passenger half cargo). The 3H6 means it is a -300 series; the H6 is Malaysia Airlines' unique identifier with Boeing
