What an interesting video. I have a jungle according to my kids, but only a few plants according to house plant collectors!😊 I will not spend my money on the rare plants. I can add new types of houseplants through buying more common varieties at reasonable prices and I am enjoying that. Plants can easily die and the price of the rare plants is just too much of a gamble. That said, learning about what is rare and what the prices are is just plain fascinating. Thank you!

One thing to keep in mind is all of these Kroger plants are coming from the same nursery. I think they may be producing their own TCs thus driving down their costs. This is the same place responsible for the “ice white princess”, variegated ring of fire, Paridiso verde, white wizard, marble/galaxy pink princess, and now Thais.

They need to change the name "Rare" to "Limited Edition" Because it will come and go. Big batches grown then sold, then dissapear for a while.

I am very happy I can buy rare philodendrons cheap at the local garden center. In the past half year I bought only rare plants. And my favorite one is $15 with taxes. I know it's going to be difficult for small growers to sell with profit but for us who just grow for our enjoyment it can't get any better. All the plants that were going for hundreds of dollars now sell for regular prices.

Here in Romania we also have problems with plants from grocery stores being questionable quality, I had bought 3 White Fusions and they all died after I removed the fabric covering the roots, even after an year they did not recover, removing the plant from the pot just to have a look I've discovered the entire steam has gotten bone dry even though it had been watered every time the pot got dry 25-30%

Same thing happened with the first release of ring of fire at Kroger grocery stores. They ended up not being kept climate controlled during transportation and they would drop all there leaves shortly after being purchased.

There is a nursery in Oregon that hardens off their plants before shipment. Slowly Lowering the humidity to around 55 and watering them less and less so they have a higher chance of survival outside of the nursery. You would think it would be common practice for all nurseries.

I think they are referring to the yellowing on the leaves. I have the "nonvariagated" version of that one and it gets yellowing on the leaves from time to time but it's from watering issues... @AlohaPlantLife I guess I mean unregistered random hybrids that are being created in people's homes . I wonder the same. The more people breed hybrids with hybrids, the less that specific features will stand out, leaving the plants all kinda looking the same. We need the serious anthurium breeders to keep lines clean so we don’t lose the integrity of the different species.

I also think there will be an increased demand for different monstera deliciosas, but in particular the sport variegated monsteras. I think the large form sport monsteras will maintain a fairly high price for a while. However over the last half a year or so I have seen large form monstera deliciosa aurea and large form monstera deliciosa mint that are from tissue culture start to pop up more and more. Unfortunately the monstera mint tissue culture seedlings that we are beginning to see more are not the same monstera mint as the one most commonly seen on instagram and is sometimes called a jungle mint monstera and has deep fenestrations with thin green veining in its variegated sections, that one is typically described as an intermediate form, so it is neither a large form or small form. The tissue culture monstera mints are large form monstera deliciosas and I have noticed that they tend their green veining/minty variegation is less thin and slightly splotchy. The monstera ocean mint you showed is not in tissue culture either I'm pretty sure, it would be amazing if it was though, Ive heard that the monstera ocean mint was a mutation/sport variegation from the monstera contorta, which is why its leaves are slightly irregular shaped. I like to watch plant videos from all over the world and have heard from multiple channels that the most reliable way to predict future plant trends is to look at trends in Southeast Asia and what is being tissue cultured there. This is a very fun video to watch, I love these types of plant videos that are less focused on showing plants. Its great to see other plant peoples perspectives on these sorts of things and I appreciate the use of terms you learnt in marketing.

Typically this would actually be an indication of too little light. When there’s not enough light these plants will try and increase the amount of surface area available to absorb light, and the easiest way to do that is to push out solid leaves with no slits if that makes sense. Make sure fertilizing regularly as well (minimum once a month).💚

DNA in plants can’t be compared ti human’s. Because plants don’t need two different DNA sources to propagate like humans. So tissue culture will NOT cause issues, it’s exactly like propagation from cuttings but in a minuscule scale. Unless they are hybrids made from pollinating different plants

I know, that’s what I said in the video, and I said that’s why there will always be new types in limited supply when the first come out. Especially since the same cross can turn out looking quite different each time you do the cross. Makes anthurium quite a bit more unique in my opinion. Pricing is still pretty high for “rare” anthurium from what I’ve seen.

Not saying it’s not one of the “it” plants right now, just saying people have started going crazier than normal over variegated alocasia.
