The seat where I was supposed to get up seemed to be level with my head. And I was tall and overweight then, so a poor guy helped me up. (I bet he developed a hernia, seems reasonable.) Well, the three of us who did not know how to ride, our horses stopped at a nice shady spot and started eating grass. They were trail horses and one followed another, I think. We just started laughing because we didn't know any better. Well, the two smartypants that galloped off came back and asked us what was wrong. As if they didn't know. You are part of an ever dwindling minority now ! I was a child when I saw the Coronation of QE11 in 1953! Most ordinary homes did not have t.v. back then but an aunt of mine did, so the whole family descended there to watch the Coronation ! We are lucky to have lived through some of the best years, AFTER the war, although we were impacted by that for some years due to food and clothes rationing etc. did not finish until the mid fifties ! We went to schools that still taught the traditional stuff, religion, school started every day with a religious theme, we were taught to be proud of our country and celebrated all the special days, and our lessons were spared some of the ghastly stuff , transgender etc. that poor kids are subjected to now,! I believe we were a "lucky" generation. Hope you enjoy the Coronation.

@@susantunbridge4612 these are not RCMP horses. Burmese, as the others, was black. Another was given to the King recently, think they're up to 9 gifted. Burmese was used as a police horse when the Queen Trooped the Colours. They are bred in Ontario these days and have bred by the Mounties since the 30s. The breed has been improved by using Hanoverians and now has some of the best examples in the country. Like the Cavalry Blacks, they are fine animals and are carefully selected.

I have heard figures closer to a billion on busy years like Jubilee, Coronation, weddings ect. Not just tourist spots, hotels, air lines, food services. Then all the businesses that serve those businesses and the businesses that serve the employees of those businesses. Sanitation/cleaning companies, uniform suppliers, car services and the like. The tax revenues from those alonen is quite a bit. Imagine the banks that would go under with the loss of all those companies and ppl not having money. It would be a spiraling of businesses ones you never think of as being "tourist " related.

These are CAVALRY horses, that is, WAR HORSES. Are people really so dense that they think these are PETS? Those sabers are real weapons. These are guards, that can be a formidable force for crowd control. If someone tries to start trouble, they will find that out. Those are really big, fit horses and it is a tribute to the riders that they are so well educated about their jobs.

@@dbyers3897 Have you been educated in Classical Dressage? Well I have and this is definitely not ceremonial. It is a MARTIAL ART. I went to a British Horsemaster school. You learn cavalry training of horse and rider there. The Spanish Riding School is a MILITARY unit, as is the Cadre Noir. Queen Elizabeth set up and sponsored the British Pony Club so that she would have competent horsemen and women for her household cavalry. Have you ever seen the US Park Police in action in Washington DC? I saw them in training as well as during crowd control between 1967-1983. When tourists become rioters, you will see what cavalry can do in close quarters.
