He beat time with a ruler on one of the railings, God help you if you marched out of tme, he singled you out and made you march up and down in front of him . I was scared stiff I'd miss a beat.. I notice that these horses are always tossing their heads and seem uncomfortable. Do the bits in their mouths hurt? I noticed this during the queens funeral as well.
@susantunbridge4612 Жыл бұрын
No, the bits do not hurt. They are expertly fitted to sit comfortably in the mouth. They're not uncomfortable, they're just somewhat restless with having to stand there for so long. Horses are creatures of movement, long periods of standing takes training. They want to get moving.
@shirleycameron7718 Жыл бұрын
I'm sure they do ...someone sitting on their backs for hours...the bones must hurt but they can't tell you can they ?
@patrickpowers5995 Жыл бұрын
The horses enjoy playing with the bit in their mouth - like humans do with a boiled sweet. It is that which ensure an instant response when the rider signals via the bit.

These are CAVALRY horses, that is, WAR HORSES. Are people really so dense that they think these are PETS? Those sabers are real weapons. These are guards, that can be a formidable force for crowd control. If someone tries to start trouble, they will find that out. Those are really big, fit horses and it is a tribute to the riders that they are so well educated about their jobs.
@dbyers3897 Жыл бұрын
Lighten up. These are ceremonial displays for visitors performed by serving troops. No one's been sabered in a while.
@LovinLnCottage Жыл бұрын
@@dbyers3897 Have you been educated in Classical Dressage? Well I have and this is definitely not ceremonial. It is a MARTIAL ART. I went to a British Horsemaster school. You learn cavalry training of horse and rider there. The Spanish Riding School is a MILITARY unit, as is the Cadre Noir. Queen Elizabeth set up and sponsored the British Pony Club so that she would have competent horsemen and women for her household cavalry. Have you ever seen the US Park Police in action in Washington DC? I saw them in training as well as during crowd control between 1967-1983. When tourists become rioters, you will see what cavalry can do in close quarters.

Absolute rubbish. Under no circumstances would these horses ever be used for crowd control.
@John-G Жыл бұрын
@@LovinLnCottage Absolute, complete rubbish. There's no connection between the training for police horses and the military whatsoever. As for the Pony Club, it was founded in 1929 when the Queen was three - nothing whatsoever to do with the Household Cavalry.

I do love the guard changes when there's a long guard. The trumpeter on his grey is just stunning and it's quite cool to follow him thru the lookout and then back to the yard. So was this just before or after the trooping of the colour? Cos I can see the stands are still up.

How wonderful to see this cornation and in color! I was too young to understand even a bit of what was happening when the late Queen was crowned. I thank God he has allowed me to witness this event even though I'm not a British citizen. PJ

@Sharon-bo2se Жыл бұрын
@@susantunbridge4612 these are not RCMP horses. Burmese, as the others, was black. Another was given to the King recently, think they're up to 9 gifted. Burmese was used as a police horse when the Queen Trooped the Colours. They are bred in Ontario these days and have bred by the Mounties since the 30s. The breed has been improved by using Hanoverians and now has some of the best examples in the country. Like the Cavalry Blacks, they are fine animals and are carefully selected.

You can see two police people mounted returning to the building ahead of the mounted guards. I’m sure they were just out of sight on the ride out. Horses do much better when an experienced horse accompany them. They’re hurd animals & prey to many animals. They have a super fight or flight reaction! Hint on the trail or out hacking, if you horse shies or won’t go through a hedge, listen to them. They have seen or heard something ahead of you.
