Rare Siren! Federal Signal ""ST-12"" - Alert- Monmouth, IL

This is in no way an official Federal Model Designation, but its the most accurate thing i could call it....
On Street view this appeared to be a direlect SD10, but when I was driving past on my way to another siren test, I noticed it was Definitely single port and not a normal SD10 by any means, So i stayed to film this
siren starts about 0:33
information and observations relayed to me by ‪@midwestsirensandtrains‬ and ‪@AmericanSirenProductions‬
shows that this is a SD10 Cone, a 12 port federal chopper, and a Federal mount, but We think this is either a parted together siren, or this could very well be a Prototype or Very Early SD10

Probably just a prototype SD-10. You have to realize, it’s in Illinois and Federal probably tested prototype models mostly within the state.

Just because it resembles something doesn't make it a "prototype". This is much more likely a siren cobbled together with different parts.

That's one rare siren! I've never seen this kind before, but Man that thing's amazing, I think they took an HOR 12 Port Rotor and stator and probably motor.... Unsure about the motor part.... But that having the SD-10 parts makes me think it's an early prototype single tone ST-10 or maybe something similar to that. Anyway, awesome video! That siren is one of a kind my friend. It really is.

Wow that’s neat! Seems like this is some sort of a single tone SD-10 model that was never made in mass! ALSO - on Streetview, you can see the bottom cone of the shroud about to fall off below the stator.

Thats awesome! It looks like they took the stator from a model 7, shoved a STH-10 rotor into it then slapped on parts from a SD-10… idk if I should consider this a abomination or not lol

STH-10 rotors are much bigger than Model 7 rotors, so it can't be an STH rotor. Also looks like the stator is too short for a Model 7. To me, it looks more like an H.O.R. style chopper/stator.

I'm aware you mentioned that you made the designation up and it isn't official, but I would've called it the SS-10, since SD-10 actually means Special Dual-Tone 10HP. So, it would logically make sense to call this thing the SS-10 since you'd be changing the Dual-Tone part of the siren to Single-Tone. But as much as I want to believe this thing is official, some of the parts on this siren do not look Federal made, which leads me to believe that this is a mishmash of different siren parts.

I noticed this siren August 2021 during a car show, but I thought it was just an old deactivated one, I was wrong. Very nice footage Also, the new boston il sd10 looks kinda like this, too. Update: I'm 99% sure this and new boston's sd10 are both prototypes

No because the RSH-10 and STH-10 have the same round stator holes. This has the rectangular holes like a Model 5/7.

To me, this looks like a 12-port HOR rotor/stator, with the intake and motor cover from an SD-10. Looking on Streetview, it had the bottom half of an SD-10 as well but it fell off. Seems like they just slapped SD-10 parts on a HOR and called it a day, but haven't maintained it very well.

on one of the buildings near downtown, I was thinking this was an SD-10, I kinda knew this was some type of siren so therefore Monmouth would then have four sirens. But then ofc people like Midwest Sirens say there are only "3", I didn't question him any further since I already triggered him that day by calling him a "rich kid delinquent" but always wondered that this was a siren but was confused about it at the same time.

It's probably a 10HP electromechanical "collage" siren made from parts produced by the Federal Sign & Signal Corporation. Original siren could likely be a Model 5A/5B, that eventually was parted out. And also what a disappointment, I was expecting a 3 port undertone just like as in the original dual tone version. Anyways, here's my backstory on this siren: As both the SD-10 and Model 5T have parts commonality either an SD-10 or Model 5T was installed at some point at this exact location. Eventually a single tone Model 5 unit in the county was in the process of being parted out and everything had been stripped away with the exception of the rotor and stator. The model 5's chopper assembly was eventually used on an SD-10, which already had half of its's shroud cannibalized to repair an identical unit outside of town. This SD-10 being either the original SD-10 installed at the location or another county unit that was eventually relocated to this spot at some point. it could be a realistic explanation as i see parts of civil defense yellow and rusty metal.

Looks like they customized this by taking off the bottom of an sd-10 adding a fedelcode model 5 stator and taking off the part not making the sd-10 stator visible. This couldn't be an official siren without customization wouldn't be surprised if this was an unavailable product made by federal signal that no longer was made probably after 1969
