In the early '90s I met a WW2 Fallschirmjäger veteran at a reenactment. They asked him to fire a belt of MG42 blanks for the crowd, and he agreed. Someone put the weapon on a table, and set a chair for him to shoot from, but he ignored these. Instead the old guy layed the machinegun on the ground, then threw himself down behind it. The gun's owner tried to help but he didn't need any help. He charged it and emptied the drum with several controlled bursts. He did, however, accept help in getting back to his feet.

First met an ex SS member about summer of 1982. We were visiting an in-law's house in Upper Franconia. We pull up in the car and I noticed a very tall tan man with a shaved head is standing at the edge tilling a vegetable garden with his adult age daughter by his side bagging vegetables. He was missing most of his arm above the elbow, but still tilling at the ground very adept as his technique he had honed over the decades. He came over and struck up a conversation with my German mother who spoke out to him (I spoke no German). The missing arm question quickly came up and he said he lost his arm in Normandy as a 12th Waffen SS HJ member but was captured by the Americans after trying to evade them laying down in a tall wheat field but a tank crew spotted him from up above from their Sherman and he could run no more because of his severe injury..... he spent the rest of the war as a POW recuperating from his amputation. But he was very pleased to see Americans pull up to visit near his house and showed us his proud garden. Very nice man, If only I had asked more questions about his name or official unit designation with the 12th HJ. Back then the SS were not seen as much unique in that time period, it was more matter of fact that veterans were around. Interestingly enough though he was ineligible for pension/disability benefits from the West German government, while my Grandfather in the Luftwaffe was approved rather quickly.

In New Orleans Louisiana, as a child I was talking to people in a Antiques shop my Mother worked at. A Older gentleman walked in to talk with the owner, Franco the owner turned to me and said his friend fought in ww2... I started to ask him what group he was part of. He Laughed and told me Italy, he was a POW who stayed in Louisiana after the war. I remember it like yesterday.

I like all your videos Alex. You should do a video on how to spot fake SS helmets decals, hats and uniforms. There are so many fakes and the prices are so high that a lot of collectors have had their hard earned money wasted on fake SS helmets, hats daggers etc. I think a video in this would be very helpful and educational. Thanks

16:38 its like that today in US Army. We officers can buy standard produced accoutrements like thread lined shoulder boards or we can buy bullion thread shoulder boards that really look great on ASU. Same with our mess dress uniforms where the shoulder knots can be rayon, mylar infused, or bullion. You can also have tailor made uniforms that really look sharp. Like my ASU is not a DSCP off the rack officers uniform, i got mine done through Marlowe White.

Quick note: the allgemeine ss black uniforms were not parade uniforms, that was the standard uniform they used from 1932 to 1939, they stopped using it in 1941, they used the ss brownshirt uniform too which looks a lot like the one of the sa, another thing is, they didn't wear the cuff titles because they were proud of themselves, it was a part of the uniform, it's so simple to understand that.

My father and mother were in berlin in 1947,my father was in the army,UK soldiers were not allowed to bring back like USA were,my father bought back ss dagger,ss belt and medals.A lot of ss soldiers ditched their uniform and wore normal army uniform.I remember his things,he sold them all back in the 80's a lot of dealers here would not openly sell ss items,it was taboo to make money off of their things,it is a little more open now,i wish he had kept them,he died in 2010,i am sure he would have made a whole lot more from them had he hung on to them for another twenty years.

@@stevesick1 No, that's really not true. Well, if I take the SS divisions with low numbers, they were well equipped. But these were also the corresponding army tank divisions. Okay, the SS Panzer Divisions had 6 instead of 4 Panzergrenadier battalions, the regiments also had an engineer company, but this could no longer be maintained with the 23rd SS Panzergrenadier Division, which even had no tanks! Another example, assault rifles, standard in the army's Volksgrenadier divisions, not in the SS (only partially equipped with them). Jagdpanther, Jagdtiger, only to army units. Armored personnel carriers, distributed equally between the SS and the Wehrmacht. The 234 reconnaissance tanks, mainly used by the Wehrmacht. SS cavalry, some still equipped with the World War 1 MG 08. The SS Mountain Training and Replacement Battalion 7 (replacement unit for the Prinz Eugen and others) is also a blatant example. I'm currently researching the history of the unit. The recruits were not given uniforms for weeks, sometimes months, because they were not available. These are just a few examples. Sure, elite units like the LSSAH, Das Reich, Totenkopf and Wiking were very well equipped, as were the 2nd, 116th, Grossdeutschland, PanzerLehr and others of the Wehrmacht.

The SS during the pre-war years were denied access to new weapon orders whereas the Army were granted them. The SS instead got used Lugers from as old as from the first would war and later as well as police officers. It wasn't until after the war began that the SS filled orders for new weapons with the occupation of foreign countries and their munitions factories. Then we start to see Browning Hi powers with WaffenAmts as well as others..

How do we know this is authentic? So much was debadged after the war and put together after the fact. I’ve seen lots of uniforms, helmets etc that maybe from the time and the parts are authentic but put back together. It’s difficult even for experts to discern. A lot were made for soldiers that were stationed in Germany after the war as souvenirs to bring home. Does that make it authentic? Vet bring backs (real ones, especially either Waffen SS or Allgemeine SS) are few and far between now. Just my opinion. It would be very disappointing to fjnd out you spent 10k on a fake.

That collection was left to his son, Paul Inder, along with the rest of his estate. I can't see Paul selling any of that collection, as Lemmy enjoyed putting it together over the years so much and was very proud of it. The knife/bayonet/dagger collection itself is absolutely massive. Paul is a Hollywood music producer and guitar player as well, so he has no financial reason to sell. Maybe though...
