Very special car indeed. I consider myself Lucky that I grew up with capris everything from weezy 1.6 to the big 3ltr mk1 mk2 and mk3. Never seen a werks turbo in person closest I came was 3ltr Essex with full factory zackspeed kit also known as the x-pack capri here in the UK being part of the capri club I've seen most special editions I.e Brooklands280, broadspeed bullits and many otheres but never a werks turbo. Growing up with Capris I've always had a big soft spot for them they do mean an awful lot to me and I always enjoy seeing them when I do, I have a lot of great memories of being a kid in the backseat of dad's capris. Going to classic car shows and being part of them "capri shows" are what we called them as kids, then suddenly parents split up and the capri adventure was no more dad got a different car which wasn't a capri "dad had a capri since just after I was born with many consecutive capris after till i was about 8" shortly after parents separated. Dad hates that I hold it against him because he was the culprit.............sorry going off topic, needless to say I feel the best years of my life was spent in the backseat of dad's capris ...............memories always br8ng a tear and that's why I hold the capri so dear. Thank you two anybody that read my comment........secondly to anybody that had a similar childhood whether that's memories of being a kid in the backseat of parents old classic, please don't hesitate to comment on this comment classics should be remembered and through memories that's how we do it

Similar memories indeed with Capri’s , Cortina’s and Granada’s , amongst a lot of other 60/70/80’s gems too - I was 7 years old in 1977 and my now late dad had just swapped his mk1 cortina 1500 deluxe estate in for a mk 2 1600 super , fond memories of both cars ( I used to wash and polish them for dad religiously) and them my uncle John appeared in a 1974 3.0 ghia capri automatic , first time I’d seen a 3.0 and my mind was blown , both by the lines of it , the sound and the performance , fast forward 12 years and I’m riding around in a mk 3 3.0 Ghia automatic too , kept it until mid 90’s and stupidly sold it , had a few 1.6 , 2.0 and 2.8 specials too - loved them all , those early 3.0 were the kings though in my opinion. Wish I could go back!

My mother had the 2.0 V6 with 101HP. I had just turned 18 and gotten my license (in Germany). Needless to say that I tried to hijack the keys at every opportunity. That was almost 40 years ago. Back then a Capri was just a car. Before that she had a series 1 Capri and before that a Karmann Ghia convertible. She was one cool kitty! Miss you, Mom!

I had a 1980 Ford Fiesta S with a draw through turbo on it, it had 13x9, and 13x9.5 Compomotive three piece wheels on it by the late 90’s tires were becoming a concern Yokohama made 215 50 13 and 235 50 13 in a Y352. After 2000 only Hoosier and Avon had DOT tires available and one other company Sumitomo was making 215 50 13 even BFGoodrich stopped making the 235 50 13 and 215 50 13 the car came with when I bought it. 13 racing slicks were available by various makers but even now 13 tires are hard to source. While not a ZakSpeed body kit, it certainly looked the part that all racers of late 70’s early 80’s could feel at home with. At 1580 lbs the turbo motor with adjustable wastegate made surprising V8 Mustang of the mid 80’s a daily occurrence lol. After owning the car for nearly 31 years I finally sold it in 2007 as local smog regulations were becoming more of a hassle to deal with, and it really was more a race car than a street car. The car fell into disrepair shortly after, but did come back up for sale n Hemmings in another state believe Massachusetts where the car was exempt from smog inspections, was purchased by someone here locally back in California, and then sold again on Bring A Trailer, it’s now in Florida where someone is tending to it. Toward the end of my ownership I removed the turbo equipment, and replaced it with NA dual Weber Carburetors, ported XR2 cylinder head with larger valves, carbon fiber pushrods, Cosworth valve springs, 10-1 compression pistons, lightened engine components. My machinist said safe to rev to 7k but you might want shift at 6800rpms.

Very cool car, there's quite an interesting back story with these & what was to be the Capri Supersport / RS2800 that spawned the 2.8 injection. Have a read of Steve Saxty's Capri book as it was quite a convoluted story. The Cologne V6 always suited being turbocharged as they were always a bit tough to tune otherwise. I had a single turbo Turbo Technics converted 2.8 XR4x4 which was quite a handy thing. Thanks for sharing the car! Those Scheele seats & 4 spoke steering wheel along with the wide RS 4 spokes plus widebody is pretty tough to beat.

YEAH, I like your car very much, especially the white colour. I also aimed for a capri III in my beginning, but somehow ended up with a Porsche 944 turbo (which is engine swapped and modified in many ways), of course also white and black;-) In my opinion our both cars are rather similar concerning first look, fun and flair, though they differ in many details. You may watch my recent clip presenting it. If I ever meet you on the road, we should drink a beer together.

Personally had all the RS Escorts mk1/mk2 from back in the day, then got into Capri's, had 4x 2.8injections early 4 speed & later 5 speed Specials...not the best engine design on n/a to get any real power from... a turbo conversion definitely is the answer...Brakes were another interesting point on a Capri😮 It is very refreshing to see a nice sensible lap as opposed to some wanabe racer out of control on every corner. Great car being treated with respect.

Unfortunately i havn't the opportunity to drive it on a racetrack, i'm sure it would have been interesting. The best thing was to "destroy" a Ferrari Testarossa(sure one of the first series with 390HP) on my way to Munich these days. 😁😁😎😎

Cologne V6 was never highly developed (the Essex 3.0 formed the basis of the Cosworth GAA V6 which was used in European Touring Car Capris). The Zakspeed Capri wasn't really a Capri, it was a full on spaceframe Formula car so needed a lot of power which the Turbo Cosworth BD was developed for. It was lighter too!

Bit lazy not having an intercooler, i mean how much space is under a Capri's bonnet????!!
@posniknelb61146 ай бұрын
It was basically a 2.8 granada cologne with Siamesed exhaust ports and bog standard internals so low pressure turbo was the only option which doesn't really need an intercooler. Also the gearboxes are weak and can't handle much more torque than 188 bhp the car produced. They're too rare and valuable to chop and change bits , so most cars are kept standand. A friend of the family sold his for 89 thousand quid a couple of years back. It was the only one in the uk registration SMK829Y. Theres plenty of pictures of it online
