This is a dig straight out of the Twilight Zone, or as we say in the UK, you took a trip with Mr Benn through the special changing room door!!!...words fail me Tuco...oh lordy, what a dig!!.as the records were so cheap, you're only problem I guess was getting them all home ( then I realised you made multiple trips)..the condition was fantastic too, the storage looked decent though and the temperature and humidity must have been kept fairly regular to avoid mildew. Great that you got multiple copies too, you will make some serious cash there on those you don't keep for yourself. You work pretty hard at this game and I've always admired your sheer leg work and tenacity, so I guess this was your reward for that..congratulations!!( but I'm also very envious at the same time! ).
@VinylHunter Жыл бұрын
Thank you!!! Twilight Zone is right!!! It's still hard to believe! As far as the records being stored in the proper environment...not so much! There was a window air conditioner on the garage, but it wasn't working while i was there...and I'd guess it hasn't worked in a loooonnnggg time! 😂 Fortunately the records made it out ok! The covers show no signs of water damage or mildew....BUT, they do have a bit of a musty smell though! All the records that were stored on the floor got water damaged, and they all went into the garbage! Nina Simone and Lou Reed were among the water damaged casualties! 😢

Wow! This reminds me of the one haul in my life that I had like that - a whole HOUSE full of LPs - EVERY room + basement packed full - ALSO had more at his business warehouse! I found MANY rare 60's, 70's, and a few 80's rock, garage, psych, R&R (and a few rare soul/funk LPs as well!). Was up there all day in north-central Pennsylvania. I sang all the way back home with a car stuffed with LPs! Total cost for the car-full: $400 for close to a thousand LPs. Many now are $500 to 1 grand LPs but I sold those with my 1st LP collection in the mid 90's. Yeah, BIG mistake but I but do have the most important ones on CD reish now so not all was lost. OH YEAH - Phafner! At least I have the CD reish! Never had the original LP! During my haul I had to go fast so I probably missed some $$$ gems as well...Did you go back for the Phafner LP or did it vanish?
@VinylHunter Жыл бұрын
I didn't realize the Phafner mistake until months later when i started editing the footage. I know who got it though! He also found Morgen and a bunch of other insane stuff (4 copies of Maggot Brain)

I clocked the Phafner as soon as I saw it, yikes! It would have been an ethical dilemma if the seller had asked you to make an offer rather than giving you a price, it's always awkward when you're put on the spot like that!
@VinylHunter Жыл бұрын
Yeah, fortunately i never set the price... I'd bring her my box of finds, she'd look at it and say "give me $250 (or something)"...and I'd pay the amount she asked.

Most of us record collectors do cringe when somebody rips the shrink off the album , specially with hype and price stickers, it adds value to the album, it's like throwing money away.

I went 7 or 8 times. I went every time i could. More videos to come on that! As far as Phafner goes...i didn't know about it until i started editing the footage several months later. haha nice video... i do the same thing, rip that shrink off, i sell many records at a store where people dont even know how much old shrink i remove, it just 90% of the time looks bad
@VinylHunter Жыл бұрын
Yeah! Back in the day, most people didn't put their records in bags...a lot of people wised-up and left the shrink on to protect the cover. But, now we put them in bags....better protection than the shrink! The shrink is usually wrinkly, torn, tattered, cloudy and in this case, very dirty! If there's not a hype sticker or cool price sticker on it, it's got to go in my opinion!

Hey TUCO, just curious what this guy's story was. With the promos, I would think he was somehow associated with a radio station, but then there are the Italian, Netherlands, etc pressings. It's always a sad thing seeing some hoarding situations where a person goes through a lifetime accumulating while never seeming to enjoy what it is they have, or having any clue as to what they have. By the looks of the house, he could have sold some to spruce it up a little bit. Great haul. Always nice to see the finds. Congrats!
@VinylHunter Жыл бұрын
I'm told he had a booth at an antique mall...standard booth, not records. The house was just used for storage, he didn't live there. But, get this! This is crazy...I'm told he always sold records at the record show....but he never had any good records there!!!
@VinylHunter Жыл бұрын
He buys and sells stuff. I guess he bought this stuff from many sources back in the day...my guess is, since vinyl died in the 80s, this stuff was mostly forgotten about. I think he had his hands full with other ventures.

Yo TUCO. I know it's gross, but saliva works really well as a sticker remover. Just rub some spit on the sticker and let it chill for a few. I learned this tip from a KZbinr who restores oil paintings.

Did you know that that LP was worth that much and just missed seeing it? Or was it something you weren't as familiar with and then you learned looking it up later? Either way, wow! @@VinylHunter i would have taken it, from the cover art. small label. its the art work, that for me suggests something. but we all have missed big ticket items. depends on the price of the record, if its a buck, ill take a chance. 5 bucks ok. its when its 20 bucks, you start to really get selective. so easy to just buy mediocre stuff, another problem for me would be how dark it was in the room, easy to miss damage that way.

@@VinylHunter Yes, I went to that little store in CB that you showed. Found nothing. Nothing in there worth more than 1 or 2 bucks and they wanted to look everything up and charge discogs prices. I am really stunned that you found all of those Throbbing Gristle records. I do not think I've ever come across any of their vinyl. I can only listen to TG when I'm in a certain mood. They're a bit *out there.* LOL And TSOL? I've been wanting that LP for a long time. It's on my Discogs wishlist as is "Change Today," especially dig the song "Flowers By The Door." And all that psych? Damnnnnn! And sealed Trouble "The Skull." Wow! So much good stuff. Really digging this video. Congrats on the scores, TUCO! DKS! Fantastic finds. I found "In God We Trust" on vinyl at a Christian thrift store over 20 years ago. I think they thought it was a religious record. lol Jello Biafra once made fun of my last name way back in the day when he was on AOL circa 1993. I can't believe you found that Johnny Thunders Heartbreakers "L.A.M.F." picture disc and the Bauhaus one too. Amazing finds. I'm in awe.
