@@hopespringseternal2624 as long as the powers that be that are in control of the water resources like our dams don't do like the last good rain season and release a lot of water in anticipation for the snow melt we should be good. Let the reservoirs fill up and over if necessary. They need to store as much as they can without harming the water natural environment of water flow to the ocean to keep the saltwater from invading freshwater waters estuary.

It does but all temporary. Drought will return. Our storm drainage and concrete LA River is designed to get all the water out of the city and dumps it rigjt back into the ocean as fast as possible. Good for flooding prevention but really bad for preserving/keeping the water. Prevents it from soaking into the soil and aqueducts

@Crazy_Clown_In_Town 45 lakes in California and a number of them are either almost at full pool or over and that is without the sierra snow melt. California should have built many many ponds to recharge the aquifer in the state but no they are letting more water go to the ocean

@@mtnride4930 yeah its sad.. there's a really good documentary opb produced that shows in detail the timelines and projects that stared back in the mid 20th century to divert the water from the north of California to the sunny south, by creating the "la River" and the endless canals that feed fruit and veggies farms that literally feed the entire world... all without at the least building backup reservoirs along the way... well here's what you get after all that. I employ everyone to watch or at least research the plight of California's agricultural/resource system and to learn from it... for it is a complete and utter failure to the human race.

250% above normal with a number of the 45 plus lakes at nearly full pool or over right now, which means California which did not use good judgement and build lots of ponds to recharge the aquafer will let lots of water just flow to the ocean AGAIN.

Northern Ca got hit with the cold storm too and low snow but it happens every couple of years. Too bad they didnt report on Tahoe area. The Sierra Nevada mountains get quite a bit of snow every year. Most ski resorts have a 10-15 foot base right now.

Ummm we have plenty of places to store it, we just don't need it all at once just like anywhere else. Too much rain at one time is a problem if it's spread out it's manageable. Also you may just wanna look at a Map most rivers that start in say the Sierras never makes it to the ocean. We have 1300 reservoirs and probably 50k small private lakes to store water, it's not like we have tunnels that go directly into our ground water basin it needs to soak through the soil.

@@robbie5138 Umm if this were true then why is southern California reliant on water that comes from the Colorado river that is pumped into huge pipes that go through the Rockies and to reservoirs in the Los Angeles basin? Or the water that is sent through the Delta-Mendota canal to areas like Fresno and Bakersfield? Where do you people think that water you use comes from? It's not the ocean.

My home town is Ogden, Utah. I currently reside in Omaha, Nebraska. I had my boot at MCRD San Diego, State Side as at Pendleton. At Pendleton, back in the late 1960's it snowed in the morning and it melted once it touched ground. The little hops or "dancing" people were doing to stay warm. But concerning the current event, and the novelty of the thing: the fun of the snow ball fights, the snow angels, and snow "men" sculpted. With my next notation I want to use the word stupid but I should rather say "unwise", in driving on this stuff, if you do not know how to turn into the skid stay home. If you do not know how to adjust your driving habits on this stuff stay home.

Holy crap...GMA talked about the West Coast? I-80 AND 395 were shut down yesterday for some time with multiple feet of snow, and 100+ mph winds. For my East Coast friends out there, or anyone who decides to visit Lake Tahoe in the winter... Pay attention to forecasts! Don't just rely on the New York based national Meteorologists, as they often completely sweep our weather under the rug. Go to the U.S. National Weather Service. If the Weather Service calls for, "difficult to impossible driving conditions," which is what we have from now through Tuesday, if you drive (NOT recommended), carry extra food, water, blankets, and be aware, as they say, "rescuers may not be able to get to your vehicle for several hours, if not days!" Remember, ANY time you go over the Sierras, bring extra food, water, and blankets. Even in the middle of a hot day in the Summer, a rock slide might close the road for 12+ hours. Have fun, but pay attention to forecasts, and remember to have more than GMA as your weather source, it very well could save your life.

Lake arrowhead is at 5000 ft elevation... Isn't snow normal at that height? It's not like they're getting snow on the beach or something.

The ridiculous comment at the end for her to be careful out there. Why did they send her there in the 1st place? Stop this abusive practice of putting humans outside to report how dangerous it is. We get it. We are in it. Stop putting them in danger's way!

Huh? Snows often in the mountains in cali. Be careful on your word choices. Also i was once in Truckee California when i i got hit with a 24 inch snow storm in 24 hours. Not a big deal for me since i am used to it being that i am from Minnesota. Been in 30 inch storms in that span so.

It would be better if ABC News went back to a water mark or smaller insignia in the right corner of the video. The large text banner across the bottom of the video that doesn't fade out blocks too much of the shot. At least fade it out 10 or 20 seconds into the story.
