Marvin Olmos thank you so much! Yeah that Neve is something else and the Dyn’s do me right. They stopped making that model unfortunately. They’re is a newer version, but it’s more expensive and Wes Lachot was upset that they changed the tweeter. It’s probably still really good, though. Anyhow, cheers!

thanks! I use old Apogee AD-16X and DA-16X converters for tracking and a Burl B2 Bomber ADC for mix capture.

Nice studio! Terrific setup. Rookie question: At what point do you compress the stereo mix bus? Is that done at the final mix...or when mastering?

RJB thank you! That’s typically a mix thing, but a mastering engineer may use some additional light compression. However, a limiter is really doing the heavy lifting for mastering.

I know that console is not cheap at all especially with 32 input, anywho i knew a guy that bought a used pretty good console from some sort of auction for dirt cheap and what i want to know is i guess... is this a realistic possibility that youll actually get worthy equipment at an acution or is it risky or less likely to get what you want.

Haha... yeah... definitely not cheap. I'd be a bit concerned about buying gear at an auction, but if there are reasonable assurances on the condition of the equipment than I suppose you could risk it. For me, running a busy studio, downtime is my worst nightmare. So that really made me shy away from the vintage and used category for the console which is such an important piece in the studio. If you are buying a compressor or a mic pre or something that isn't integral to the workings of your studio then the risk factor is reduced because you can always take the time needed to get it fixed up.
