League is physically demanding in a different way to Union. Because of the six tackle switch over a team is less guaranteed to retain possession for long stretches and it encourages more play of the ball to minimize getting tackled, you can't just batter your way to the try line like some of the heavier Union teams do, you need to offload more and kick more to compensate for that forced turn over. (very generally the first three-to-four tackles are for gaining ground, so they'll tank the tackles on those ones, then the last couple for getting the try) So League requires a team with more generalized athleticism than the pure muscular endurance of your average Union team. They'll be running longer and generally need to be faster on their feet (on average). A lot of the rules differences between Union and League are because of League's working class roots back when it started in the UK. A working man needs to keep his strength for the work week, so breaking his body in the ruck and the scrum, going through the kind of physical toll Union puts its players through, just wasn't economical (don't get me wrong, League is still a rough code). A middle class professional or upper class guy isn't working with his body the same way so he can sacrifice a few injuries for the sport. It's why the working class teams went professional earlier than Union, working class men needed the financial compensation for missed days at work recovering from injury, if nothing else. Playing for pay offended the more traditional upper class Rugby Union clubs who felt amateurism was half the point of the game and caused the split in the codes. Most of the British migration to Australia came from working class areas in the North, so they brought League over with them. It's why its the more popular Rugby code down here. (why soccer never found a home here is anyone's guess)

A much superior game to Rugby Union ,Rugby League is much faster and more exciting , this was a fantastic game. 13 players on the field 17 total including interchange 18th player can be activated due to foul play including concussion , that was a short drop out kick very often due to the height the defending team can get the ball back if executed correctly . Very good game going on as we speak Saturday night 14 October Kangaroos V Samoa , NRL is Rugby League played in England where it started in 1895 parts of France New Zealand Pacific Islands is the National game of Papua New Guinea used to be played in South Africa . NRL players are also very good Boxers . The tackles are harder in League ,as Union have gone soft . There is very little stoppage in League makes it a game of attrition less penalties then Union no stop start no time outs
@theblockbusters8996 Жыл бұрын

Yes yes League is so riveting with half the game time made up of some oaf rolling the ball backwards with his foot. Oh and that’s actually a stoppage. League has never been anything beyond a fringe sport in South Africa, barely even existing. It is only a major sport in two states of Australia and the former coal belt of norther England and hell hole Papua New Guinea. And those league losers trying to box should be banned. I’ve been a lifetime boxing fan and at first I couldn’t stop laughing at that Sonny brain dead Williams and that Paul whatever his name is trying to box but it got just sad and annoying. Neither of them have any place in the boxing ring and are only giving themselves further brain damage. They don’t have any style or technique or even any proper footwork let alone rhythm.

The 40m high kick, was a drop-kick (meaning, it hit the ground before he kicked it). The rule is, that even though the ball is technically being kicked to the opposition, as long as the ball goes more than 10 metres, your time can try catch it So you can either kick it long, and back your defense to hold out the attack Or you can kick it short and try win the ball back But trying to get kick it short is a dangerous gamble. If you don't pull it off, you give the opposition a whole attacking set, 10 metres or from your goal line (end zone) Sometimes, if you get the ball back and it works really well Other times, like in this final, it is disastrous. Because trying to win the ball back, cause it breaks your defensive line and gifts the opposition a try (touchdown)

Rugby Union guy here. Rugby league (NRL) is played in other countries as well , like it is quite big in england and NZ as well, but only in Australia is it more popular then rugby union (I think also Papua New Guinea). So internationals for RL is much smaller compared to Union. Same with you is that I enjoy the more physical contests, tactical kicking and not just backline play. So I prefer union. If I want to see a bit more flair, I would rather watch Rugby sevens. I think people overestimates the entertainment value of tries. If teams scored 10+ tries every match, it would be awful to watch. The fact that there is less tries in Union, makes a try so much more special, otherwise it becomes like basketball. Just my opinion of course. Oth people love the game.

@edrianluyt8735 Жыл бұрын
@@DRholmsey Not gona go in union vs League debate. I understand different preferences. Penalties for me is not the end of the world. It does not come from nowhere. On team was having territorial advantage and putting the other team under pressure and getting rewarded for it. Then technically you decide to go for "safe" 3 point, or take a gamble and go for the try. Sure I like a well worked try, but I love a solid defence preventing a try just as much. I also loath rule changes to "create" more tries. At the end of the day, teams adjust to that and in union, teams stopped committing to rucks and focussed on forwards joining the backline, making defence more impenetrable. Unintended consequences. Scrum penalties also was not a thing back in the day, until they made it so. I would say stop tinkering with the rules all the time. There's a lot of rules introduced over the last 20 years that I think did not improve the game. They should keep the rules consistent. The mess at the rucks? Should have outlawed hands in the ruck and allowed good old rucking. (Just not to the head) People used to roll away quickly once a couple of studs were raking over their backs. And no serious injury could occur from that.

@@ep8u Overall: League is nothing. League is only really a major sport in two states of Australia, the former coal belt of England and Papua New Guinea. Union isn’t much either, it is dwarfed by Soccer, but it is still many magnitudes larger than league in terms of players base, supporter base and financial resources. Australia and Papua New Guinea and the Cook Islands, none of which are large & important nations, are the only countries where league is bigger than Union, everywhere else league is dwarfed by union (if league even exists to begin with).

@danieleyre8913 like I said, it depends where you are. I'm not talking about globally. Soccer is far bigger worldwide than any version of rugby by far. But I'm talking more on a tribal level. Here in NZ, Union is our national game, but depending on where you go in this country as far as city or town league can far outweigh union. You only have to compare the attendance at Eden Park to watch the Blues play vs a Warriors game.

@@ep8u I’m from Upper Hutt New Zealand and the only places in NZ I’m aware of where league is more popular than Union are a few towns full of gang Māoris like Ngāruawāhia. There are places down south where league does not even exist. Attendances for sports events in NZ have been pathetic for over 20 years now and for many reasons such as HD sky TV coverage, night games, rip off tickets, oversaturation of events, the super rugby being a flawed model, NZ sucking in most sports that are not rugby Union, etc. Yeah this season the Warriors did better and got good crowds, but it’s just flash in the pan stuff. The player base and core support base of league in NZ is not big at all, and most regular people across the country don’t care for it.

Grand finals and State of Origin... That's when you're allowed to get physical. Best of the best. Normally yes, you can't hit them above the neck. You should watch the state of origin (NRL) it's our all star game... They hit hard!

Hey brother, 18th man is used when a player gets knocked out illegally by the opposition. He becomes an extra player that is used by the team as like compensation for not being able to continue and it doesn’t count as an interchange. Each team gets a maximum of 10 interchanges throughout the whole game. You probably already know that an interchange is just the act of resting players and adding fresh ones as they tire.

League is definitely faster and more exciting than Rugby Union. Rugby League is also played in England, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Tonga, France etc etc.

Rugby league is only played in: * 2 states of Australia. Especially the not so desirable outer suburbs of Sydney & Brisbane. * The former coal belt of Northern England * In pockets of Southern France * In hell hole Papua New Guinea * In South & West Auckland, and among gang Māoris in New Zealand. That’s about it. About half of the game time in league is a guy rolling a ball backwards with his foot. Hahaha “more exciting” my bottom.

The ball is in play way more than Rugby Union and that's a fact.

18th player is an injury replacement, that can be activated if 2 players fail a head injury assessment, or a player suffers a match-ending injury caused by foul play, in which the opposing player was either sin-binned or sent off

Watch the whole game. It was intense for the whole 80 minutes. ❤

18th comes into affect when any player from the squad of 17 is injured or taken off by foul play it was brought in because the rules that assisted in speeding up the game and the cte injuries that occurred every game would leave some teams finishing the match with no in left to interchange from the bench during games
@ITZMrBralis.26 Жыл бұрын
Hey mate I’ve got you covered on the Interchange and the 18 Player The interchange is where you sub a player off the bench into the game replacing one of the 13 players on the field the 18th player is there for when a player is injured or suspended from the original 13 man squad the 18th player is essentially a backup player
@barryluxford59699 ай бұрын
Interghange players are able to be interchanged throughout the game. The 18th player can only be used after players are ruled out due to a head injury.

The USA has an international rugby league team called the tommahawks. Rugby league split from union in England and was given the working class tag and union was know as the game played by rich private school kids. 70 nations play rugby league.
