As an x player I can tell you this was the most brutal game I ever had the pleasure of playing. To all Americans, you will fall in love with the NRL. Our women play as well, NRLW, not as entertaining as their male counterparts but still very tough and fun to watch.👍 National Rugby League. It's madness you'll love it.

Yeah nah mate ya right on the brutality & they ask how do they get up after being smashed.... that's what training is for, smashing yaself into teammates 6 days a week. The learn to cop the big hits without the sting. Nothing better than being at a game & hearing those big bodies collide... that's footy

You forgot to mention that ARL is alot harder, tougher and more fights then what there is in today's NRL,but the game is kinda still the same apart of the different rules back then.

@dannypeters8126 Men that can play 80 minutes of a hard contact sport without spitting the dummy are way tougher than men who are unable to control themselves. Not to mention, it's a strict rule. If you raise your fist to someone on the field, you could end up banned for life. In saying that, I didn't mind the odd all in before the rules changed. Danny, the ARL player know that they wouldn't stand a chance in the NRL. Time will tell, brother.

Also I’m a mental health nurse and we had the west tigers players visit the unit and they were so nice to the patients especially the very unwell ones. @@RealFansSports only coz I've watched other reactors asking why the defender is standing so far away allowing the ball player to run as far as he/she does. The on side rule for a kick can be confusing & a lot of time the refs sends those tries up to the vid ref to see if the try scorer is on side so he can award or disallow the try. Hopefully they'll someone explaining the rules when the refs gives penalties to the crowd so that get some idea what the refs are doing

I’ve grown up and spent most of my life in an Aussie Rules state, and rugby was foreign to me until I moved to Sydney in 1988! The thing is, AFL and all forms of Rugby developed from the Rugby School in Britain. One of the original writers of the rules of Aussie Rules Football, Tom Wills, studied at the Rugby School and played their version of the game at the time after being sent there from his home in western Victoria by his father. He’d previously played a game called Mangrook with the local First Nations kids prior to going to Britain and Aussie Rules is heavily based on that, so it is the most authentic Australian code. He then played their rabble of a game over there whilst drinking beer! 🤣 Rugby is hard hitting. There are some hard knocks is Aussie Rules too, just not as many. They are just different codes of football. Thats my perspective, and respect to all codes! I’m probably just biased towards Aussie Rules because of my upbringing, but it is more unique than most.

7:28 Correct but holding down is not only done to stop them moving but also to slow the "play of the ball" down. The faster the player gets up and plays the ball the less time the defense has to set their line and be ready. Not sure if you guys caught the explanation of the six again in that moment because you were talking? But the tackle count restarts if you hold them down for too long. This was another new rule change introduced into the game in the last few years to prevent players slowing down the ruck and speed up the game. Previously it would be a penalty and that would slow down the game further with a stoppage.

I am an American and I am a former rugby union player, which is a very different game and it is way more popular that league. However, I prefer watching league. It is a better game, and I think Americans would be very good at it. Football culture translates more directly to league. I have watched league almost exclusively since 2012 or so. I have WatchNRL! Russel Crowe owns 25% of our Club, the South Sydney Rabbitohs. We are the oldest club in the league formed in 1908 with the most premierships of 21. The club mascot is the rabbitoh, a now-disused term that was commonly used in the early 20th century to describe hawkers who captured and skinned rabbits and then sold the meat at markets, so named because they would shout "rabbit-oh!" around the markets and suburbs to attract buyers. Welcome to NRL everyone ! We hope you enjoy the game.

4:30 Another use for the field goal, is in latter stages of the game, when your side is leading by 6 but under pressure, a field goal means the opposition must then effectively score twice. It's sometimes easier in that situation, to get a kicker in position with space to attempt the field goal, than to try breaking the line.

So many good ways to score tries and points in NRL games, I equate a 80th minute field goal that wins the game to a 4th quarter buzzer beater in the NBA that’s how exciting and edge of your seat it is I’m a big Canterbury bulldogs supporter (a team that hopefully gets a chance to play over in the states while the nrl has this collaboration in effect) and oooooo the blue and white army would go so crazy in and on the Vegas strip, especially Josh Addo Carr, literally one of the fastest men in the sport

Great to see you guys enthused about rugby League. Pretty sure you like it more than rugby Union because it’s closer in concept to the NFL. Both games of course born out of Union. Field goals were actually 2 points until the late 60s, just as they are in Union but was changed to 1 point when some players became field goal specialists and would regularly pot 3 or 4 a game. Made the game a bore fest at times like Union. The two pointer from beyond 40 metres was only brought in the last couple of years. Hope you enjoy the game despite not being there live.

American football and Rugby League have the exact DNA. Both morphed from Rugby Union. The forward pass in football was accepted in 1908 even though Walter Camp didn’t like it. If you two want a rugby league ball, just look up Steeden. You don’t want a replica ball, you want a game ball. A game ball is the real ball they use in the games. A replica looks the same but it isn’t. It’s heavier. A game ball here is around $150, replica $30.

G'day! It's wonderful to witness the NRL garnering attention from Americans! As a Philadelphia Eagles enthusiast who has invested considerable effort in grasping the intricacies of NFL rules and fostering friendships during my time in America, I am genuinely thrilled to observe this sport's expansion. I foresee it evolving into a shared topic of discussion among my American acquaintances in the near future.

He’s completely correct nfl used to not have forward passes. NFL was actually stopped due to number of injuries. However there was a president who loved the game that they required the passing forward to be included to lessen the injuries. I can’t remember the president, I think it was Roosevelt.

100% agree. If the NRL are serious about growing the game in the US they really should let you guys and all other Americans have free reign to react to any and all NRL content. Hiding the game from people is not growing it, people reacting to it on KZbin will only help. It's not like it's losing them money, if anything it'll gain them money in the long run.

The 2 point field goal past the 40m is pretty new in the rules only since 2020. Before then it was just 1 point regardless how far it was but over the years the game has evolved and you are seeing these long range field goals more often hence the new rule. Doesn’t really affect the game much because to land that kick that far out under pressure is very difficult. So it’s far enough they made it a 2 point field goal for the long range ones

2 point field goal is only new (2021 I think) and there were 4 last year. A lot of the attempts will be similar to the half court throw and hope at the end of a quarter in basketball. The video talks about having to be knocked forward. Thats true in rugby union but league tends to be more harsh and will call it a knock on if they just fumble it sideways or slightly back. The holding down after the tackle is a big part of where the game is won or lost and can be a bit vague. Often youll see teams holding them down too long (so their players can run back the 10 meters and mark up) early in the games to see what the refs tolerance is or how they want to have the game. We love chip n chase too but you dont see it anywhere as much these days. Its a high risk play because your line is broken. So if it bounces to the opposition they can often get through the line for a try or big meters. The blocking of content is ridiculous!! what stupid business by them
@RealFansSports

Ahh ok thanks for the insight on those things. Yeah I thought I noticed some differences in how holding a man down for too long is officiated. That makes sense now. And yeah the blocking sucks. Copyright claim it all you want! But dont block it!

Not to be a stereotypical Aussie but G’day fellas!! 😂 Love the video, I’m from Sydney and love NRL. I’m curious to see if you guys knew any of the few NRL players who left to attempt an NFL career. The success story that is Jordan Mailata who is at Philly but even more interesting the talent that could have been that is Jarrad Hayne who played a few preseason games for he 49ers when Kap was at QB. Hayne did really well for someone who was so new to American football. It would be cool to see you guys watch his NRL highlights and then later in the video watch his NFL highlights to see how he transitioned. He was an incredible talent in Australia and really shined given his opportunities in the NFL preseason. Cheers legends! Can’t wait to see the Vegas games this weekend

Check out Lorey Dayley played for and was captain for the Canberra Raiders. His grubba kicks was something nobody else tried during his time, inside 20 meter while on offense near the goal posts he would, grubba kick the ball into the bottom of the post pads rebounding back to him, resulting in a try or a team mate scoring. Ricky Stuart and Lorey Dayley used this tactic whenever they had the opportunity. Ricky Stuart was famous for the backwards spin bomb, bomb the ball and make it spin back toward him when when it landed, innovative players with specialized tactical game play and skills. Awesome

The whole strategy of an nrl game is to win the play the ball. Thats means the tackled player getting up and playing the ball before the defence can get back 10 metres and be set to defend. This is why tacklers try to either hold the player down or keep him in an upright position but not get a penalty for doing it. Winning the play the ball means the forwards can roll down the feild opening space for the backline speed men to do their thing. The half back and five eighth and hooker generally direct the attack around the feild and call the plays and implement strategy. The fullback directs the defence directing players to where they need to be
