@@KutWrite Maybe, maybe not. There are roller bearing wheel sets that fit in trucks that were originally friction bearings. The journal box covers are supposed to be removed if going thru interchange but as these are in plant cars, that isn't mandatory. And with paint spray being around, keeping the covers on would help protect the bearings.

This was a great catch. I love "critters" - the littlest locomotives. There was a really interesting one that sat for a while at the old Landmark grain elevator in Columbus, OH - it actually had a jackshaft and a single powered axle! Sadly, when Landmark abandoned the elevator, the locomotive was left to rot (and eventually removed).

I have one too, my rear-cabbed engine is a 4 wheel wonder in old "Santa Fe" cross logo livery : silver, red & black. I have all of it except the complete box. Just a side panel. As a lifelong rail fan, my dad and I were in a Railroad club when I was younger down in N.C. There were a couple of 45 ton engines & and eventually the got a bit larger one. Progress forward quite a few years and I was driving trucks and eventually carried one of these same locomotives (25 ton GE) about 150 miles to the club dad and I used to be in. Probably one of my coolest trips as a truck driver. I have been up through The Buckeye quite a bit few the years and have seen a good number of old engines like this one and a few others as well. Nice video btw.

Probably to keep kids off the bridge. If a kid is hurt, of course the lawyers would sue. Even though the RR says they are trespassing. It happened around here, never did hear what the courts decided. But Conrail (at that time) put up a warning bell if a train was coming. Kids were jumping off the bridge into the river.

I grew up 10 minutes from this track. I've never seen a train cross before. Years ago, pretty sure this used to be a main line that went through west alexandria. Pretty awesome that you got this video! You should try to get an Amtrak in the early morning hours in Hamilton. It's pretty awesome to see, especially since you don't really see those around this part of Ohio.

Nope, not turbines. They manufacturer high end renderers aka Recycling Equipment for recycling ANYTHING and EVERYTHING you could think of and then some. They are a very interesting company.

There's a 25 ton switcher at The New Hope Valley Rwy in Bonsal North Carolina like that one. I carried it on a lowboy from Charlotte NC to Bonsal about 15 years ago. It's not running but NHVRR has some great little engines. It's really neat to see one running as the one I carried wasn't. Thanks and if you get down to Central NC check out the NHVRR.

Hi Jaw Tooth. Good video on Dupps engine. Did you notice that the cars had no air hoses and probably no air system, or hand brakes, it looked as though they had brake shoes and a lower adjustment connecting rod. Although on one car I did see a hand brake. They also had old style brass bearings and steel wedges inside the journal box,unlike the newer style roller bearings. Thanks for all your videos.

@@deepsleep7822 Hey Man. Where you coming from ? If you look on Google Earth you will see where the St. Louis Sub and the CE&D Sub combines at the edge of Terre Hauat. Thats always a good place. From there you see both Main Lines as it goes the city. Basically,find a track and you'll find a train. I'm 59 years old and live an hour from Terra haute. Should it be we're compatible in age,maybe I could just meet you there and we can railfan that day. Its been awhile since I was there and have been thinking about heading up. Its a Great train town!

This is the old Cincinnati northern RR. PC welded the rail back in the 1970s. I caught a CR train , north bound between Carlisle and Germantown in 1979. The CN branched off the NYC in carlisle,then went 1 mile to a crossing with the B&O cincy-toledo main. CR ran the last train on this line about 1983 when they tore up the line north of Germantown. (farmersville,west alexandria,lewisburg,west machchester(PRR crossing)etc,,, Dupps bought the line, but Chessie did not want a diamond, so they built a connection(i think there was an old right of way connection in place)to Chessie and ripped out the diamond. I have many photos at the diamond of BO/CR. Lewisburg bought the old depot and moved it to a nearby park. West Alexandria depot is in place.

Mr. Tooth...ya dun it agin!! The smallest, most obscure shorty short lines with the most eclectic motive power, doing what they do best. Got real lucky on this one, beins how they only switch ever so often. I love how they paint the big square thingies right on the flatcars....my guess they own the cars or "the big boys" wouldn't tolerate that. So....what are those big square-ish thingies? When I was a kid Roebling Steel had a little Engine like this on but it had a motor at each end . My best friends dad ran it for the mill switching cars of scrap steel with finished steel cables that went into Bridges like the Brooklyn,Golden Gate and many more! I really Loved watching Greg's dad work that little Blue and yellow loco .

Rare indeed! I grew up in Farmersville just north of there and the 16 years I lived there I never once saw that engine move. The caboose said “snakes snow” or something like that at one time. From what I know Dupps makes meat grinding equipment.

Also if you ever get to Pennsylvania, in Hershey at the West Hershey Plant they have a track mover which they use to stage cars of ingredients on two spur lines on Hershey property. Norfolk Southern delivers full cars and picks up the empties. Hershey employees make switches about 3 to 4 times a day depending on the amount of product they produce, using a two person crew. NS delivers full cars I believe every other day. It may be something you would be interested in. The plant is located at 1033 Old West Chocolate Ave. in Hershey, Pa. The main NS line runs parallel to that road.

Interesting to see this little GE in operation. Notice the cars probably still have friction bearings and not for off line use. No air lines between the loco and the cars, so all stopping is on this little loco's brakes! Thanks for an interesting video.

@@makintracksusa8831 The flatcar with the rotor has working brakes as it goes thru interchange. So when the loco is way out from home it does have extra braking. On a car coming in, there also would be brakes for the same reason. Only the in plant cars are brake less.

A little GE 25T from the 40's. You could get them with a bell mounted on the side like that. Those idlers with the journal boxes probably never leave the site. Not considered road worthy. Interesting video Jaw Tooth.

Operated a similar locomotive was made around 1947 I believe originally it had a 220 Cummins powering the gen. When it went bad it was updated to a 5.9 cummins. Tough little locos

Awesome catch! That little loco is the diesel version of the old saddle tank switchers from the steam era. My late friend had 3 of them in his HO collection. That bridge though. If someone wants to get on it they will just climb. Those gates are glorified ladders.

@@vernicethompson4825 Nope, that is the air reservoir for the air brakes. Note the coupler has the cut in the knuckle for use with a link on a link and pin car. Or a pin and chain as seen laying on the flat behind the loco.

I'm in the habit of checking out the locations of these videos on google maps and streetview (since I'm on the other side of the world and am unlikely to ever visit them in person). After the recent Franklin street-running videos, I naturally followed the (now disjointed) track north and noticed the Dupps factory with its little GE switcher and wondered about the operations there. I even noticed the gate across the truss bridge and thought perhaps the Dupps trains never ventured out of town. So it's good to know that it does occasionally get a decent run. That's got to be about the quietest US train I've ever seen (or heard). I get so used to bells and the usual 2 long, 1 short 1 long horn blasts on every US railroad video, that it becomes very noticeable when those sounds are missing. Surprising there wasn't really any warning when entering the road crossing. Yes, it was dead slow, but still. :)
