(spoilers) I believe when they say that it wouldn't have been especially different. Link had the helm and shield off for most of the fight anyway, and it would be so trivially easy to go get a wizard robe top in place of the Zammy top (honestly probably would have been faster than staying at Zammy monks through five bottoms for it, and wizard has a higher mage attack bonus). Maybe Rargh would have caught a few more hits if Link didn't have the shield and helm on at the beginning, but I'd be shocked if it made up for 16 extra food at the end.

Considering the rules were to only bring one item from each type of monster, and most of link's runes came from camping nechs/mages and ankous, i don't think this fight would have been the same.

@@JamesDoesItAll The lock-in rule is for gear, not all items (see: 0:25 all caps red letters). Supplies - food, runes, pots, etc - usually have different rules from gear in the randomizer challenges. Rargh didn't mention supplies specifically during the intro, but the only time I've seen them treat runes as gear has been when they've had casts on the randomizer (which they didn't this time).

Idea for clue scrolls in future episodes, only allow uniques. It would stop them from being meta to get easy rune gear and food, but still allow for the randomness and fun upgrades.

@@nathanieljones8381 Maybe Rargh is unclear when writing out challenge rulesets, or maybe Link has poor reading comprehension. Hard to say without seeing behind the scenes. Either way, I do wish they'd reshoot challenges when this sort of thing occurs. I'm sure their thought process is something like "that'd be a waste of three hours"/"we don't have the time"/etc, but it's just poor form really. You mess up a three hour project at any other job, your ass is staying late to fix the mistake.

Because it places pressure on release, which can then also negatively impact metrics. Out of curiosity, if you HAD gotten a Leaf-Bladed Sword, would you have been actually able to use it? The sword itself was released in 2008, but the monsters that drop it were obviously already in the game, it was just added to their drop table. I'd assume you just straight didn't consider drop table changes that just added already-existing items (since it would have been difficult to play around that), but did it matter for items that weren't released in the time period?

Can you tell link to take all the broodoo shields with charges off the randomizer? With 3 different kinds of shields with 20 variants each, that means there were over 60 broodoo shields in the pool and even though it didn't actually matter (guthans spear is 2h lol) it could matter in the future.

The people complaining about Link playing by different rules really need to watch the whole episode before commenting. Like it really didnt make any sort of difference and probably hurt him. He wasted 10 mins getting the second drop from zammy mages and the sharks/bass didnt matter he still had a ton of food leftover even if it would have been all lobbies. It was a great prediction to go mage and freeze is strong. Could of easily went the other way if raaagh went ranged he had the green chaps.

Exactly! The helm and shield were off most of the fight anyway, and a wizard robe top is actually higher mage attack bonus and is a trivially common drop. Runes are supplies, not gear (at least that's how they rule it in most of their other challenges when there aren't casts on the randomizer). Or, to come at it the other way, even if rargh had camped for drops he didn't have much room for further upgrades without getting very lucky on a weapon drop somewhere. His defensive gear was already very good, especially with the granite shield not giving negative mage defense. I mean he already had d hide and decided to take melee gear anyway. A mage vs melee fight with gear from this era was always going to end up with mage dominating.

Pvp idea, start with 'x' amount of time to get gear you spin on the randomiser but each level teir of gear reduces the time dragon could resuce by 30 mins, barrows could be 45 mins- an hour per item and if the items aren't acquired in the time you have the other person gets the items you haven't got

I think farcasting should be fine but the same way you dont really allow running around in range to scatter bolts or to mess up melee there should be some restrictions. Maybe like youre allowed to farcast 1-2 tiles away so the whole fight youre not just running? Might make hallys interesting as well. And maybe like youre not allowed to run away like that when the other isnt frozen?
