Players travel all over the court and it's never called. One guy is doing forearm shivers every time he drives to the hoop. The non stop crying to the refs by certain players. The flopping. No defense. The ticky tack fouls. The NBA is awful. It's become the WWE.

Sheed definitely speaks for a ton of fans, because nobody signed up to see 140-135 in 4 qtrs. Where's the Defense, where's the intimidation, where's the battle to "earn" points instead of just scoring points. I don't think there's too many foul calls, but the threshold of what constitutes a foul is too low. Too much ticky-tack stuff, not enough full faceted competition it's all offense.

Thats why eg in EuroLeague you will rarely see a team scoring over 100 points. They play both defence and offence and they also have better rules. Eg in NBA goaltending just awards poor offence, in FIBA, once the ball touches the rim, it's fair game for both sides.
@09lowkey
@09lowkey 8 ай бұрын
@@medved4030 FIBA also plays 8 less minutes per game and the courts are a bit smaller. But I’d agree with you if you said FIBA/Euroleague (and adjacent leagues) were the natural progression from NCAA. I believe FIBA is the more authentic form of basketball, NBA values the entertainment factor a bit too much.

Even Michael Jordan, one of the all time leading scorers , won DEFENSIVE player award TWICE. Defense? Doesn't seem to exist in the NBA anymore. The softness in the officiating is why the scoring and 3 pointers have expolded over the last 15 years or so. They've taken away physicality which is the only advantage the defender had. Defenders are not challenging shots as hard because its so hard to defend without fouling. Its what the league wants but I think a lot of people find it predictable and boring. It does feel as though its a 3 point shooting contest. Bring back physical defense

What I find so funny is the misconception from those in the rules committees and owners who both want more scoring as if THAT is what makes good basketball. Fans want to see great players making great plays, that's it, so steals, blocks and physical play is literally what the best era (80s and 90s) was built on. Scoring can be up, if you get physical and there is a turnover, fast break with tons of fast paced action. Now it's no defense, ticky tack fouls, drive to the lane uncontested and 3 point barrages, it's more Euro-trash basketball All Star game level of excitement.

@@puppethoundthey don’t understand. People did want to see scoring, but we wanted to see talented players earn buckets. The league is now "Eurotrash" soft and to add: If you don't think shady dealings are going in all of U.S. sports involving referees getting paid under the table for helping certain teams win, then you are naive. 1) Bring back the physicality. 2) Limit the number of 3 pointers per game or quarter. 3) Bring back hand checking. 4) Force players to stay with the teams that drafted them for a set term to bring back rivalries!

Time to return all aspects of the game. Eliminate the 3 point play. Make players move into the paint.
@darthmartinez
@darthmartinez 7 ай бұрын
1. Train the Refs to call games like they did in the 80's and 90's. 2. Make it 8 fouls to foul out instead of 6. 3. Make it 6 secs instead of 3 seconds in the Paint for a violation. 4. Maybe try only allowing 3 pointers in the last 2 to 3 mins of each quarter to encourage more drives to the basket. 5. Teams that are at the #7,8,9 and 10 spot can qualify for the 1st pick in the draft. This will encourage teams to be more competitive and not tank the season trying to get the 1st pick.

I’d revamp the flopping system… first flop is free. Second flop- 1 game suspension. Third flop- 2 game suspension. Fourth flop- 3 games… and so on. And flops can be reviewable (in case an apparent flop was missed by the refs, OR if a flop was called and film shows it actually was legit contact. Watch how quick that flopping shit stops.

The worst part is offenses initiating contact and getting fouls. They tried getting rid of it a couple years ago but then stars complained and got their way. Every time I see a player kick his foot out or elbow a defender in the chest and get a call I change the channel.

Hand checking should never come back. Defend with your feet, not your hands. Refs need to call offensive fouls. Personal cylinders need to be respected on defense *AND OFFENSE!* If the offensive player encroaches on the defender's cylinder, that's an offensive foul. 90% of the time, physical contact is initiated by the *OFFENSIVE* player.

I don't think the 3 point line is bad as is, but for the integrity of the game if a team is going to chuck up three's all game then maybe they should be punished and have a penalty 3 point line that is moved back and cuts the wings corner shot. I'd give a team 12 three's per half and if they go over move the line back. Once there is say 4 or 5 minutes left in a half then there is no penalty line in which no team is no longer penalized. Also the last 24 seconds of the 1st and 3rd quarters a team 3 pt shot will not go against their shot attempts at three's since a team may have to shoot a near half court shot. MLB made rule changes to the shift that keeps 2 players to each side of second base. Something that keeps the integrity how the game used to be played for over a century. I think the same thing needs to happen to basketball. Make the 3 point shot strategic for the sharp shooters and that could ultimately bring back the mid range game back.

The NBA is the most skilled it’s ever been, but it’s also the most basketball ignorant it has ever been when it comes to working as a team. Too much iso and motion offense. They’re basically playing AAU style ball in the pro’s now a days. Shits hard to watch.

It's a myth it's most skilled when no defense is played at all, players being able to score while being handchecked is far more impressive . There is nothing impressive about uncontested shots day in day out in the modern NBA

Remove the corner 3s as a starting point. Even better, just make it a straight line where the current top of the arc across the court. At that point it would encourage players to drive to the hoop or at least get closer for a 2 point jumper.

Last year during the playoffs, just out of curiosity, I noted the last 27 FG attempts at the end of one game. 24 out of the 27 FGA were either a wide-open 3PT attempt or an uncontested layup. That was in the 4th quarter of a playoff game. That’s what the game has devolved into. They call that “more talented” and “evolution of the game.” I call that lazy, uninspired, uncreative but most importantly, boring to watch.

The problem is that everybody is trying to emulate the Warriors since they were able to win several championships shooting tons of 3 pointers. The problem is that none of the other teams in the NBA have 2 of the best 3 point shooters in history. Standing around the 3 point line jacking up a million 3s is not good basketball and it's almost unwatchable but that's what everybody is doing now.

The funniest thing about all of this is that it was a struggle to get Rasheed to stay in the post most of his career. Dude drifted out to the three quite a bit in his day. At a time when that was frowned upon. If Rasheed played today, he would be out there jacking up 10 threes a game. He knows that and he is butt hurt about it.

@@crungefactory whatever. I watched Rasheed’s career. Coaches and teammates were always imploring him to get to the post (check what Billups had to say about it), yet he floated around the perimeter more than half the game (jacking up threes and swinging the ball). There is no doubt in my mind that growing up today, and given the green light that is afforded to today’s players, he would take FULL advantage. Zero doubt in my mind. He is just a bitter old bird doing his “back in my day” routine.

For a while, Sheed was used as a small foward occasionally when Portland had Brian Grant playing power forward, so Coach Dunleavy encouraged Sheed to shoot some three pointers when he was a wing. The only time that Sheed really more willing to post up when he was fired up. There were a number of decent power forwards that Sheed had to play against too, so it wasn’t like Sheed was going to get some easy buckets posting up Karl Malone, Tim Duncan, or Kevin Garnett to name a few.

I agree with Sheed. Today's NBA is boring, I don't watch the games anymore. I'm not trying waste nearly 3 hours watching players freely score points without any real resistance. I watched the highlights of all of Luka's 73 pts vs the Hawks and the NBA should be embarrassed; where was the double team? In the 4th quarter for Luka's 72nd pt, the defensive player at the rim LITERALLY side stepped Luka to let him lay the ball in. I don't think Luka took one hard foul that entire game to disrupt his rhythm, no Hawks player even fouled out that game. That highlight reel should make the NBA as a league feel embarrassed.

No, the followed the Rockets. The Rockets and Darryl Morrey is the one using analytics to counter the Warriors and the rest of the league followed. Rockets are the ones chucking up 3's and getting rid of mid-range shots. The Warriors just passed the ball more , switched on defense, and used small-ball.

These players aren’t good, they aren’t having difficult games or fighting through something, they have no character arc. No personality, everyone is friends, no one is consistent and being that we know all about their off the court life via social media we all know they lame AF, no question about it.
