“Memory of the Nakba is probably as strong or stronger today than it was in 1948.”
Palestinian-American historian Rashid Khalidi explains why Palestinians will not forget the Nakba 75 years on.
This year on 15 May, Palestinians are marking 75 years since the Nakba (also known as the Catastrophe), the name given to the expulsion of more than 750,000 people from their homes and land in the lead-up to the establishment of Israel.

It's really great that people are bringing awareness to the Nakba. The Zionests are trying so hard to erase this part of history. Which is sad because they more than anyone should know how important it is to maintain remembrance of horrible and traumatic events. I strongly believe that there should be a Nakba museum, just like how there are Holocaust museums.

Bring awareness to this from Wikipedia more than 850,000 Jews were forced to leave their homes in Egypt, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Yemen, Libya, Morocco, and several other Arab countries in the 20 years that followed the Arab-Israeli war of 1948. Another major forced migration took place from Iran in 1979-80, following the Iranian Revolution and the collapse of the shah’s regime, adding 70,000 more Jewish refugees to this number.🤝

@Hebrew highest vocabulary 1) The words "highest vocabulary" are in your name yet you choose Wikipedia as a source for information. Tells me a lot about your vocabulary, and I wouldn't call it high. 2) You conveniently leave out the major reason Jews migrated out of Arab countries and forced their way into Palestine. I'm sure you are already aware of the Zionest Movement, and how they paid/convinced Jewish families to migrate from these countries into Palestine. I'm sure you already know that it was the boatloads of these illegal migrants forcing their way into Palestine, who eventually formed terrorist groups that attacked Palestinians and the British, that started the Arab-Israel war. And I'm certain you are aware that this large migration process continued after the war as well. But Zionests don't like to talk about this part of history. Or about the Nakba. Or also about how the Zionests went as far as kidnapping Arab children to have adopted by Ashkenazi Jews who had forcefully established a home on Palestinian land. 3) I read your Wikipedia reference, and it also sides with what I said. "The reasons for the exoduses are manifold, including pull factors, such as the desire to fulfill Zionist yearnings or find a better economic status and a secure home in Europe or the Americas and, in Israel, a policy change in favour of mass immigration focused on Jews from Arab and Muslim countries, together with push factors, such as persecution / antisemitism, political instability, poverty and expulsion." Basically it's saying that major reasons for Jews leaving these countries are: Poverty, Economic, Instability. Any mention of expulsion are NOT detailed. Do I believe there was anger toward the Jewish people by the Arabs after the war, yes. Do I think this contributed to all 800k+ to leave their homes and property, hell no. There's harsh antisemitism here in America, I don't see Jews leaving by the thousands because of it.

You lost the war. Get over it. Israel 🇮🇱 won. Get over it. Israel 75 years ago was one small state against most Arab states but Israel won because God was, is and always will be with Israel. Jews went through the Holocaust and they don’t forget it, but they built a state, live and prosper and don’t call themselves refugees even though they were expelled from Arab countries. Learn from the Jews. Build and prosper. Don’t just sit there and play your victim card day and night for 75 years. The world got tired of it. Again, get over it!

@@tomvaknin860The part everyone forgets is that the Arabs who left were promised they'd be back in a few weeks once the Israeli nation was destroyed by the Coalition of Arabian armies. But unfortunately, that army lost the war. So they didn't allow the Arabs who left to come back. Because they saw them as siding with the Army that tried to destroy Israel. I can understand how this is wrong. As it is definitionally "Ethnic Cleansing." Especially in light of denying the rights of many Arabs to return. But I can also understand why the Israelis would not want them back. As they might serve as a base to continue undermining the viability of the State of Israel. A lot of the angst as it relates to this issue has lots to do with trying to map on 21st Century beliefs onto late 19th Century and early 20th century ideas.

Oh I’m so, so sorry for what happened to your loved ones, and what happened to you. I just wish Palestinians would know to just hang in there, it’s gonna be a tough ride, but that they’ll see threw this this time. They matter and the world sees them better than ever before now. The world, especially the west, has finally caught up, and my sentiment is that there’s no going back to what it was, on oct 6th. I personally have a dangerously unpopular opinion, where I don’t entirely put all the blame on Hamas. I condemn certain choices of actions, obviously, but I can also understand why they had to go to that extent, the urgency felt to succeed in capturing the world’s attention about what’s been an endless apartheid, where people had no hope left of a better life for their children. It’s soul crushing. I can feel the desperation, as a mother in my heart, it hurts, it hurts inside, to see the conditions these poor and so beautiful children are forced to live in, imagining starting their lives carrying such trauma. The thought of mothers losing one or, god forbid, multiple of her children or grand babies, no matter how old they are, is extremely gut wrenching, brings me to tears. The reality of the situation in Palestine is so bad that it’s actually beyond what an average westerner can only imagine it to be like. Even if they come to a ceasefire agreement, I think this time people will not let go before a definite end of occupation. May god protect the loving soul of your lost family 🤍 (Sorry, I’m not Muslim, but I consider we both pray to the same god)

@@a.b.2850thank you for understanding. Regarding what they did, every citizen there joins the army mandatorily, male or female. So, capturing anyone was legitimate. Later they found out not all are Israeli so they are freeing them. The sad truth is, they control everything. The world finance is theirs, the stereotype is true. When UK's PM did the Balfour declaration, it was addressed to Lord Rothschild, look him up. In short, if all the Americans shared your thinking it wouldn't matter. They killed UN officials and broke international laws and nobody dared to talk. Our religion tells us why this is the case, most of the verses in the Quran speak to the children of Israel, a lot of stories are about them. They are so arrogant regardless of how many blessings God gave them. So this is their final test, mentioned in the Quran that they will be given power and money until a time comes. So that on the judgment day, they will have no way to escape it like they always do with lies and arguments. You had everything, but you disbelieved, shed blood, lied and were awful. In return they'll live eternally in hell. God is just. I've been using the plural form because the majority of them is this way, yet a minority exists that abide by their book, refuse oppression, and are good humans. We loved them and we still do Again thank you for your kind feelings, may God bless you and your family.

Shame on the Israeli government and zionists for weaponizing the suffering of their people to become the ring they feared. God bless the innocent lost due to others greed for land and power. The Palestinians have only their faith left, faith that one day people would hear their cries and see their suffering. Now it is up to us to hold those accountable to justice.

As a professor of arab studies, maybe he can tell me when the arab state of palestine existed. When was it established? Who was its first president or prime minister? What was its capital? Major cities or towns? Population? Currency? Anything?

Very true. It was hidden from me and I was only fed propagana. I'm over 60 and am just now, unfortunately, learning the truth. I was lied to up to this point in my life. I see the truth now and I'm sorry I remainded ignorant on the suffering for far too long.

Khaled al-Azm, the Prime Minister of Syria in 1948-49: “SINCE 1948 WE HAVE BEEN DEMANDING THE RETURN OF THE REFUGEES TO THEIR HOMES. BUT WE OURSELVES ARE THE ONES WHO ENCOURAGED THEM TO LEAVE. ONLY A FEW MONTHS SEPARATED OUR CALL TO THEM TO LEAVE AND OUR APPEAL TO THE UNITED NATIONS TO RESOLVE ON THEIR RETURN.” … The fifth factor (e.g. For the Arab failure in 1948) was the call by the Arab governments to the inhabitants of Palestine to evacuate it and leave for the bordering Arab countries … We brought destruction upon a million Arab refugees by calling on them and pleading with them to leave their land.”

The Portuguese parliament has overwhelmingly voted in favor of a resolution recognizing Nakba Day or “Day of Catastrophe,” when Israel was created at the expense of the forced expulsion of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians from their homeland.
