For those asking about the missing text file there is a solution but it involves some vintage equipment many may not own today. I paused the video when the text file was shown onscreen and wrote it down using an antique number two pencil and ruled 8.5x11 inch paper.

What worked out for me was I used the flirc case, removed the heat-transfer-pad and put some thermal paste on it. The case closed without cracking noise or something (no tension) and the cooling was as we know it from this case

It's a case of innovation and pushing boundaries, not everyone is born fast, as not all people are born genius' but you get paid according to the worth of your contribution (for the most part), and your investment. at your 1575 values I got stuck on the Emulation Station screen, so I went back to my PC and just changed ARM Freq to 1525, a 50 MHz reduction, and it loaded up fine. So at 1.525 GHz benchmark was 74.94 seconds... I don't think its worth trying to creep back to 1550, an extra 25 MHZ, right guys? It seems to stay stable now so I think I'm happy here. Great video ETA seriously! Im subscribed.

2 days ago, I find a way to overclock the Pi3 model B (not the B+) up to 1.6Ghz! (70.8452s) Usually only 1.4Ghz is achievable if not modded. With some tweaking and a bit more voltage than what I did in my video (posted today but filmed yesterday), I have it pretty much stable today! I will show n64 games later and also, if you want me to do more testing with the Pi3B, I can..
@DJ-lg6nu

I can't wait to get my B+ in and overclock it. Alot of people aren't impressed with the Ethernet speed, calling it "fake gigabit" lol. However, it's a great improvement for my uses. For example, one of my pi 3's sole purpose is as a VPN server/TOR router running a lite version of raspbian (command line only). It is constantly powered on and running my VPN clients so I hope the 1.57 OC stays cool! Hope to see a review from you, ETA, on the POE hat when raspberry pi foundation releases it!

KomradeMikhail I was wondering about this too... But I thought the water loop was novaspirit though..
@evileyevirtue
@evileyevirtue 6 жыл бұрын
Watercooling will only raise overclocking potential *if* the chip is throttling due to heat. Each chip is going to have different overclocking potential due to manufacturing technique and the purity of the silicon used. These don't have high end silicon and this limits the potential greatly. Honestly, I doubt you can get much higher with 99.9% of chips sold. The only benefit of water cooling would then be keeping the chip at a lower operating temperature and extend the lifespan of the chip.
@FranseFrikandel
@FranseFrikandel 6 жыл бұрын
@@evileyevirtue I'm pretty sure CPU's can actually take a higher clock speed when they are colder. However I think this difference is really small. That is why extreme overclockers use liquid nitrogen to cool thier CPU's to sub-zero temperatures. Not because a big watercooling loop can't keep the CPU cool, but because there's higher clockspeeds obtainable when the CPU is colder.
@evileyevirtue
@evileyevirtue 6 жыл бұрын
@@FranseFrikandel Extreme overclockers use nitrogen cooling because it almost eliminates the thermal issues with running a CPU. Extreme overclockers also bin their chips... They dont just get a random chip and then go for it. They get a dozen chips or more and test them against each other, and the chip that performs the best gets used. The silicon itself still has limitations and each chip will perform differently. Just because you cool a chip does not mean you can massively overclock it. Some chips, even when cooled with watercooling won't go above stock speeds. I know, I've been water cooling for over 10 years and I've gotten great chips and I've gotten duds as well. It's called the silicon lottery. Cooling a chip doesn't make it perform better, it just reduces the impact of thermal throttling.
@FranseFrikandel
@FranseFrikandel 6 жыл бұрын
@@evileyevirtue I know that there is a performance difference between different chips, and they are binned to get best performance (Even Intel does this, i5's and i7's are the same die, the best ones become i7's and the lesser ones become i5's). But if I recall correctly there is actually also a potential performance benefit (i.e. a overclock at a certain clockspeed and voltage is stable at -150C, but not at 50C). But I think in the range you can operate with regular cooling the difference is minimal.

@wikusvandemerwe2762
@wikusvandemerwe2762 6 жыл бұрын
That would be a good way to underclock your system and use a lot less power! Seriously though, it might be something to bring up with the devs. Maybe 2mm holes if they could; 2 or 4 of them. I'd like to be able to use liquid-metal TIM, so would need a way to mount the cooler. Could always use the holes at the board edges, but holes next to the CPU would sure make it a lot neater. I suppose someday a dev will add a CPU socket on a SBC -- something with an upgrade path. In that case, the socket could provide mounting points for a cooler.

I know its late but yes, it is the same as was demonstrated in the video. Retropie is built upon rasbian, so you can almost always follow any guides. The only difference is that i dont believe there is a traditional. for this you attach a keyboard and hold f4, and you will be taken to a terminal console, then you can run any commands from there

Another professional video, thanks. What I find hard to fathom is why they would increase Ethernet speed without adding USB 3.0. Then we would have a nice little network server.... as it stands I''m not sure what's gained by the speed increase of the Ethernet :-)

Jim Whitaker from what I understand they already upgraded more than they felt necessary for just a pi3 update. For much more than that I think we'll have to wait for a pi4

Since the B+ can be powered by the ethernet port will it provide enough power when it is overclocked to 1.57?

Yup I have to agree with ETA.. have my Pi3 B (not new model) with a heatsink attached to the CPU via thermal adhesive.. my fan blows in, right towards the heatsinks.. forgot all my settings but I know I'm @ 1.4g and it runs nice and stable. I think "explaining computers" or someone on Y/T did a test of the fans blowing in or out.. The ones with the fans blowing in ran just slightly cooler

I am going to get my Pi 3B+ in the mail today or on Monday and the only reason why i am getting it is cause i notice emulation for PSP and Dreamcast is more stable but i do want to try certain Mame games like the first Killer Instinct game and maybe Tekken 3 the arcade version.

On my old 3B at 1.2G Hz it takes 120 seconds and with a stable over clock at 1.3G Hz it completes around 110 seconds. I was going to hold off on the 3B+ but may have to update. Do you have any other benchmarks to try?

My config.txt looks different and doesn't have the space where you paste the OC settings, is it safe to paste the settings at the bottom?

Hey ETA Prime, I got mine to 1.6Ghz, I also added an extra line from another fourm post about 3b+ OC'ing. Upped the gpu to 256MB. What I did notice though when testing a Dreamcast game, 1.6Ghz gave worse results compared to 1.5GHz so I assume my cooler is having trouble keeping it cool. I accidently did 1.5 instead of 1.57 so going to attempt and hope it can work with that otherwise the 1.5Ghz did a big improvement

Wes Duncan , no. Something happened to my system, and it wouldn't boot any more. I had to reformat my card, and since then, I've been playing with alternate systems. But I've been on vacation, and haven't really done anything recently.

Got mine to 1.7, probably prouder than I should be. It runs pretty hot but I got big heat syncs and put a full ass pc fan over it just to be sure, definitely overkill but I’d prefer if it didn’t burn my house down
