For those asking about the missing text file there is a solution but it involves some vintage equipment many may not own today. I paused the video when the text file was shown onscreen and wrote it down using an antique number two pencil and ruled 8.5x11 inch paper.

What worked out for me was I used the flirc case, removed the heat-transfer-pad and put some thermal paste on it. The case closed without cracking noise or something (no tension) and the cooling was as we know it from this case

They announced that new cases will come with a thick and a thin thermal pad to suit both models. Thermal paste should be even better, though.

I do have one of those Tiny Aluminum heatsinks. I also have a 120mm fan blowing cold air on it. Stable up to 1.45Ghz on the CPU, 760Mhz on the RAM and 570Mhz on the GPU. I am impressed by my RAM. I am not impressed by my CPU.

at your 1575 values I got stuck on the Emulation Station screen, so I went back to my PC and just changed ARM Freq to 1525, a 50 MHz reduction, and it loaded up fine. So at 1.525 GHz benchmark was 74.94 seconds... I don't think its worth trying to creep back to 1550, an extra 25 MHZ, right guys? It seems to stay stable now so I think I'm happy here. Tried the 1575 with GPU overclock settings. Wouldn't boot to desktop. Took it down to 1510 which got it up. Pre-changes, I was getting 84.1280s ... with new settings, 73.6893s .. heat went up to 65c at most during sysbench. No fan, just a heatsink. What is that number under per-request statistics 'max' .. that seems to have gone up more for me since the overclock settings added? In one test, it was 122.41ms.

2 days ago, I find a way to overclock the Pi3 model B (not the B+) up to 1.6Ghz! (70.8452s) Usually only 1.4Ghz is achievable if not modded. With some tweaking and a bit more voltage than what I did in my video (posted today but filmed yesterday), I have it pretty much stable today! arm_freq=1500 gpu_freq=525 core_freq=525 sdram_freq=500 over_voltage=6 v3d_freq=525 force_turbo=1 avoid_pwm_pll=1 disable_splash=1 avoid_warnings=1 you can bump up arm, gpu, core, sdram, v3d but i've found this to be very stable even with average fan and heat-sinks. currently using an Invasion case by C4 labs and have yet to see it break 40*C whatever the "smooomo=000x200000" setting is causes a lot of instability

Hi all, i have a PI3B+ with a heatsink and a double fan. When i choose a ovedrclocking profile from the text-file i can go up till 1500 Mhz. But in my Retropie Installation, Playstation Games with lr-psx-rearmed have freeze moments every few seconds. The Game freeze for a moment and i see a flash in the right upper corner. I think the performance is not better, when i use this profiles, because the pi throttle it or something like this. The temperatures are ok (55-70 degrees). When i turn off the overclocking settings, it works without stutter and flashes. Have i forgot something?

That fan is actually a very bad match. You want it to push air through the fins, here you are covering them and blowing air around them. You would have much better cooling by offsetting the fan to one corner, and now you can use a screw to mount it instead of tape.

Hey ETA Prime, I got mine to 1.6Ghz, I also added an extra line from another fourm post about 3b+ OC'ing. Upped the gpu to 256MB. What I did notice though when testing a Dreamcast game, 1.6Ghz gave worse results compared to 1.5GHz so I assume my cooler is having trouble keeping it cool. I accidently did 1.5 instead of 1.57 so going to attempt and hope it can work with that otherwise the 1.5Ghz did a big improvement

Watercooling will only raise overclocking potential *if* the chip is throttling due to heat. Each chip is going to have different overclocking potential due to manufacturing technique and the purity of the silicon used. These don't have high end silicon and this limits the potential greatly. Honestly, I doubt you can get much higher with 99.9% of chips sold. The only benefit of water cooling would then be keeping the chip at a lower operating temperature and extend the lifespan of the chip.

@@evileyevirtue I'm pretty sure CPU's can actually take a higher clock speed when they are colder. However I think this difference is really small. That is why extreme overclockers use liquid nitrogen to cool thier CPU's to sub-zero temperatures. Not because a big watercooling loop can't keep the CPU cool, but because there's higher clockspeeds obtainable when the CPU is colder.

@@FranseFrikandel Extreme overclockers use nitrogen cooling because it almost eliminates the thermal issues with running a CPU. Extreme overclockers also bin their chips... They dont just get a random chip and then go for it. They get a dozen chips or more and test them against each other, and the chip that performs the best gets used. The silicon itself still has limitations and each chip will perform differently. Just because you cool a chip does not mean you can massively overclock it. Some chips, even when cooled with watercooling won't go above stock speeds. I know, I've been water cooling for over 10 years and I've gotten great chips and I've gotten duds as well. It's called the silicon lottery. Cooling a chip doesn't make it perform better, it just reduces the impact of thermal throttling.

@@evileyevirtue I know that there is a performance difference between different chips, and they are binned to get best performance (Even Intel does this, i5's and i7's are the same die, the best ones become i7's and the lesser ones become i5's). But if I recall correctly there is actually also a potential performance benefit (i.e. a overclock at a certain clockspeed and voltage is stable at -150C, but not at 50C). But I think in the range you can operate with regular cooling the difference is minimal.

i followed this guide to a T its very easy for a new berry to pull this off thank you ETA. tho im running retropie and thinking if i did something wrong i set my rpi 3b+ to be overclocked to 1500ghz + 500mhz emulation station seems laggy if not crashes after scrolling down 2/3 games if i take my time its ok but when i boot up some games i get codes and text im assuming errors related to the cpu and gpu i reverted my config to default everything works as before just put me off overclocking in the future or is overclocking the cpu to 1.5k enough :/ i forgot to add as for cooling im using flirc wether or not it plays a roll into why it didnt work i dont know

I don't have a B+ but just a B v1.2 - managed about 1.4Ghz with 500Mhz on the Gpu. OV=4 and it runs pretty good, but it you stick it under some serious crunching load it periodically freezes and loses out. It has a case, heatsinks on all major ICs and a fan.

I just completed my #pioverkill build and it should be on my channel shortly. It is a 3 B+ watercooled on all 3 locations on the board. It is in a small gaming case and has 4 fans ranging from 92mm all the way to 320mm... lol truly overkill. But I can only get it to run rock solid stable @1.55ghz but it does it at barely over 100degrees F. It is definitely a voltage issue and my other B+ can run the same settings with just a copper heat spreader shim and 2 aluminum heat sinks side by side and small fan. What is the option "sdram_schmoo" for? I've read the documentation for my Raspberry Pi but I can't recall that it's anywhere mentioned in the documentation.

Looks like I lost the chip lottery again. @ 1.5ghz I get a score of 76.246. Hangs at RetroPie loading screen at any higher value.

I managed 1.6Ghz at 50000 prime 4threads I made it in 258.21 seconds down from 290 at stock.

1.57 also managed a 258 so I have not seen too much of a difference between the two clocks.

Got mine to 1.7, probably prouder than I should be. It runs pretty hot but I got big heat syncs and put a full ass pc fan over it just to be sure, definitely overkill but I’d prefer if it didn’t burn my house down

1.57 didn't work for me on a 3 b+. Booted into the splash screen on Motion Blue 7 for a few seconds and then froze. Tried 3 more times and no good. Stepped it back down to 1.5 and we are looking great. I have a NES case with dual cooling fans and brass heat sink on the underside so temp is not an issue. A question off topic sort of when running retropie on the 3plus did u have rainbow screen when using a 5v 2.a compared to the raspberry pi official charger 2.5a 5.1v

the fan should be upside down, it should blow all the heat away from the heatsink/cpu/gpu. Try it

I got mine to 1.5Ghz. it seems that my model and heatsink only goes to that, as going any higher doesn't even get it passed the splash screen. Still its still a nice overclock and will certainly improve my performance :P

I know this is a couple years old, but I have a 3B+ and the link for the txt file is dead. Any chance of it being reuploaded or has it been reuploaded elsewhere?

I wonder if this fan setup is more efficient than say the Kuma SNES case's full board heatsink. Of course there isn't a 3B+ version yet, but I wonder if a 3B test comparison has been done.

How did you get the boot folder over to windows 10 comp without making a copy of the boot folder?

I could only get mine up to 1525mhz. It runs stable,I got it up to 1.6 but it isn't stable
