The new Raspberry Pi 3 Model A+ has a 1.4GHz quad-core Cortex-A53 based CPU plus 5GHz wireless networking, improved thermals and a small form factor. All this for $25. Here is my full review.

Thx Gary for the review👍. Me and my 11yr old daughter tinkered with the raspberry pi 2 awhile back now we have a new one!! She ❤️'s learning about programming.

Awesome stuff literally just ended up getting the B+ to tinker with. You certainly can't complain about the accesability of information in today's world.

I started with PI4's, then realised how good the PI3A+ is. Sometimes less is more. Less cost, less weight, less size, and half the wattage of the PI4 for the same job. Great for onboard applications. Love it.

The Pi 3A+ is great, I agree, but I think it has been superceded by the Pi zero 2W, wouldn't you agree?

USB C is hard. Have you looked at what it entails? Universal Serial Bus Communication... Step 1 - build power supply. -but all I wanted to do is send data. Nope. - start building your boost converter... Next build a reversible self sensing data line conversion logic just because people are too dumb to handle the square peg in round hole challenge. USB C is like building a computer for your computer, just for fun, without getting paid. -Jake

I'd actually prefer just a barrel connector for power. Having standard USB 3.0 would be a nice upgrade though.

What it really needs is GBit ethernet with a proper ethernet controller! PoE would be a nice extra.

Newer is almost always faster, but that's not always a better thing. If one is new to software engineering and just learning, the slower CPU and lower memory can actually _HELP_ one learn how to really optimize for speed and space.

Are there canned smartphone apps to interface with a standard sdk to whatever onboard app you develop? Having to write a phone app just to control some very basic gpio would be nuts.

The 3A+ has a newer and more efficient processor. They need to make a RPi4 already with more memory and better GPU. The GPU in particular is getting long in the tooth

Nothing about what current it draws. One of the main points about a stripped down SBC is that is can do more for less power consumption.

Last version in current RPy life cycle is my first raspberry pi, can't wait for it to arrive! I'm really excited to see what comes in the next cycle, hopefully something fully open source, including each components datasheet and with it an awesome learning platform in this highly abstracted, modern, digital age!

can this be used to make a retro gaming console?
@SirRandallDoesStuff
@SirRandallDoesStuff 5 жыл бұрын
Yes pretty much any of the Pi's can. The Pi zero is great for handhelds for its size. The pi zero can pretty much do up to the 16 bit era and thats pretty much it. The Pi3A+ and B+ are great for retro consoles and can even run some dreamcast games.

Mac vs. Windows laptop quesyion 'm a windows user person and always will be. Considering a Mac and Windows laptop can have the same specs what's the seemingly cultist fascination with MacBook Pro? 1. Latest Intel i7 processors (max cache) 2. 16 GB Ram 3. Dedicated graphics card 4.SSD Dive Seem like performance and reliability would be very semilar on both configurations.

@J Fz I could certainly see myself buying many of those for desktop use or for a transcoding farm.
@thefauvel7558
@thefauvel7558 5 жыл бұрын
@J Fz If it had more RAM, I could see myself using it to replace a desktop if needed, that's what I am referring to. Just install a light distro without bloat and put i3 on it. To solve the lack of USB ports you could just use a hub, but then again this wouldn't be my daily driver.

You can, although for anything other than baseline with the fastest presets it would struggle quite a bit. Depending on your needs I suppose it could even be good enough.
