It is basically a smartphone-ish computer, but a very basic one. I tried to use Pi 3 as my main computer for a day, and it was... painful, but doable. Not nearly as bad and unresponsive as the Pi 2, this time I was able to survive a day with it. Everything works really well on it, except the internet! Webpages take ages to load and render slowly, but scrolling once loaded is OK. Although it web browser seems to be pretty bad and just crashes often.
@danielm56338 жыл бұрын
it's amazing for the price though, what is it like $50. There's NOTHING better for $50
@power-max8 жыл бұрын
I think it is still overpriced. I got mine with a camera for that price, and now they can be got on amazon for $36 shipped. There are a LOT of alternative boards to the Pi available that perform much better, most of them can run a stable version of android. I hate that the Pi is limited to 1GB of RAM and has bad GPU support.

***** but that's a phone, i am talking about computers
@power-max8 жыл бұрын
You can use a phone as a computer. Many smartphones have an HDMI display so that they can connect to a screen, and the USB port can go into a special USB hub for more ports. Throughput would be limited to USB 2.0 speeds in most cases unless you have a phone with a 3.0 port. There may even be a version of linux built for a phone! I do know ubuntu has done some work with this.

A Pi 3 will be excellent for a laptop replacement, at least in terms of mobility, when it has a battery. I don't imagine that it would use a lot of power either. However a desktop or laptop will overpower it in terms of gaming. But I don't expect a tiny quad core processor to do gaming as its obviously not meant to.
