Hi Chris I have been trying to install MotionEye OS from a downloaded image file but without success. I had given up on it and decided to do some experimenting with BerryBoot because I had seen this video some weeks ago. BerryBoot is fantastic and the installation is really easy as you have demonstrated but the best thing is it includes MotionEye OS as an operating system. So I gave it a go and it worked perfectly. Thank you very much for introducing me to BerryBoot. Best wishes Arthur

Another excellent video. I like the idea of BerryBoot, it is a useful tool if you want to test multiple operating systems on one memory card and I like the feature of being able to backup/restore and load different OS off a USB device. However for me I would rather have one operating system per memory card as multi-booting can become messy over time and if the card goes bad you lose all of your operating systems in one fell swoop which makes backing them up all that more important. Thanks for another fantastic Raspberry Pi video, looking forward to your next video.

warning for new berryboot users don't do sudo dist-update/upgrade. berryboot uses its own kernels, this type of update, updates the kernels to one's not compatible with berryboot and bricks your micro SD forcing you to format and start from scratch. the fault raspibian shows on boot is because berryboot manages partition space between the various OS's installed, so raspibian cannot resize the partition. raspi-config can also be unreliable on USB storage (sometimes thinks it's not on a pi) I'll edit when I remember my fix. thanks for the great video. more people should use berryboot, despite its small faults it's a really good. p.s. please look at the new pixel version of raspibian. :)

Boot from usb ssd (sda) on a PI 3. I have the Element14 Pi Desktop mounted on top off the Pi 3. Don't forget to change your Pi 3 to boot into USB with command "program_usb_boot_mode=1" in your "config.txt" or test it with command "vcgencmd otp_dump | grep 17:" it repports back "17:3020000a" if the USB boot flag is set. Before installing or using Berryboot create a FAT32 partition on your ssd (usb stick) about 300MB, label it "BOOT". You can partition the ssd on your windows desktop by a usb cable connected to your win 10 desktop en create the FAT32 partition (with MiniTool Partition Wizard). After booting of the sd card and install all your systems, reboot into Ubunu Mate and copy all the files from the sd card (berryboot) to sda1 (BOOT). Remove sd card and reboot. Ready.

@davidbolha5 жыл бұрын
@@danieldewindt3919 I fixed the problem pretty much the same day that I posted my problem here. 😊 The micro SD didn't have a primary & an active partition. It was a logical drive within the extended partition therefore. Because when I got my Netac 32 GB micro SD card off eBay the first thing I did was tested it with a couple of programs for detecting fake micro SD cards (i.e. H2Testw, FakeFlashTest, etc.). 😑 I used MiniTool Partition Wizard to create a single primary FAT32 active partition. The in-built Windows's partitioning program doesn't do the job right apparently. 😕

Hello again, Hey I noticed a peculiar problem that I just simply can't resolve. When I first installed the latest Raspbian (along with other OS's) I could easily edit the /etc/fstab in the console by just using the nano command. 🙄 But apparently when I didn't type in correctly what I was trying to achieve (automount a networked Synology NAS folder at startup), the fstab became unwritable. Only through using the sudo command I could edit the file through the console. So I decided to make a clean install of the OS. I had other OS's on the micro SD card as well so I deleted them too. I completely repartitioned & reformated the micro SD card to start fresh. 😑😊 But even with a clean install of Raspbian I'm locked out of editing the /etc/fstab by just only using the nano command. Any ideas ? 🙁 Thanks !

Hello, nice channel! been watch a few of your videos, nice work :) Quick question on using berryboot: Would this in theory be a "safer" way to boot your operating systems, from an SD corruption point of view? If I understand it correctly, berryboot would boot from the SD card, then say you choose to install another OS on a USB thumb drive that's connected then have it boot from there. If you were to "yank" the power cord or do an improper shutdown the SD card should in theory not be affected? I know that most linux operating systems dont like that to much, but can generally survive that. Thoughts?
@ExplainingComputers7 жыл бұрын
You are right -- this will make it less likely to get a corrupt SD card, as the OS resides elsewhere. With Berryboot it is also very easy to make backup copies of your OS installs, so again protecting against corruption.

The card will indeed stay on/connected, but all drive activity will be to the SSD -- and it will have been drive writes that will have killed your card, not being powered. :) Note that the latest Pis (3B+ and 3A+) will boot from USB, so do not need to use an SD card at all.

Very nice... but I am sad to have to report that it doesn't "just work" for me. When I try to install an OS on an SSD attached to my RPi4 I consistently get an "error unmounting system partition" message, and when I reboot, it fails to find /dev/disk/by-label/boot, and then after trying to go into emergency mode, it reports that it can't give me access to the console and hangs. It looks like it tries to create two partitions, one labeled "bootberry" with most of the drive's space and some directories on it... but the other partition is quite corrupt; even fsck won't help.

i tried to install puppy but , dummy me pulled the plug after waiting and waiting . then i plugged it back in and got a response saying that i got excited and they asked if they should ignore which at this point i responded by pushing enter, but nothing happened even after waiting 1 1/2 hr. i gave up at this point. now when i restart pi, puppy is there but when i go on it goes to black screen again. any thoughts on this would be help full. thanks.

Hi, im booting up Arch Linux ARM in my Pi 3 B+ model, I come across the login part of the boot up and apply "root" as the username and password and come across "root@alarmpi ~]#:". I then type "pacman -Syu" to update. Once I hit Y it installs then encounters "replace libdbus with core/dbus [y/n] i hit Y and the problem says "errors occered, no packages updated". What should I do after this?
