Your a real trooper Russ! Most people may not notice, but i notice when you put your camera on the trail to watch you walk it just so you can walk back and get your camera. Lots of extra walking in that mess, all for us! TY

Your pain is our gain! Thanks for keeping it real and showing all the hard work involved. You have done amazing things at your place. The pallet ramp was a good fix. Videos like this help the rest of us learn from your experience. My 11 yr old and I talked through how to avoid this in the first place, and how to try to resolve it if we had to. 1. What to take with you on every trip: rope, come along, etc. 2. How to use levers: log under the front end to lift up and get traction to rear wheels, tilt pallets up to place weight on tongue of trailer and get traction to rear wheels, etc. 3. Flip flop winch. Thanks for sharing.

Been there, done that. Best just to bite the bullet and wade in and get wet by standing in the water and pushing with legs while giving it throttle to get over the tree-stump and in that case put a pallet in front to climb the ATV up on.
@RaspberryRockOffGridCabin6 жыл бұрын
My old Honda ATV I could man-handle somewhat, but I can't budge this big Can-Am. Pushing doesn't do much.
@TheBibliofilus6 жыл бұрын
Yep, also gotten a Can-Am and it's close to 500kg and my old Suzuki is under 300kg (which I could lift each end of to move it!), makes getting stuck interesting :) Another alternative would be cutting a fresh long tree down and levering it forward, "luckily" most Can-Am's have a big built-in rear trunk to fit axes, foldable saws tow straps etc maybe for a reason... Also there is Mr. Murphy that tells you that a winch will fail when you need it the most, like breaking the line close to the drum on a inaccessible winch! Wish there was a way to temporarily disable the reverse limiter though as it makes reversing out of getting stuck close to impossible as it requires two hands limiting ability to push.

@@RaspberryRockOffGridCabin , as you know I'm watching all the videos from day one (or vid one), I have watched a few current day, so know you are still alive and well and somehow I missed that you got a new ATV ! Lol...I guess I wasn't looking at it that closely in the new vids! You have the patience of Jobe! Most people don't show these kinda days, or if they do, it's highly edited. You are about as true life as it comes I do believe. You may not know this as it pertains more to different genres on YT - more on Instagram, anyway...so this new "phenomenon" is (mostly women) who are home makers, and also work , kids etc...their feedback has been they are "not relatable" as what they put out to the viewers is so edited , just snaps of a perfect vignette of a corner of a room everything in place a "perfect picture" ...yet, the other 95% of the room is a disaster, toys everywhere, dishes not done, loads of laundry to be folded, etc. Real life. So, women are now staging, get this...a "mess" ...to be more relatable. Sigh. Sometimes, ya just have to think " what in the hell has gone wrong with this world". Ok...I think that a lot actually. Anyway, this video just made me think about this new thing happening in social media, and the stark contrast to your channel. Real life. Every day. Unedited, (well- edited yes, but you know what I mean). It's such a refreshing change. I guess maybe that's why everyday I work through a few more of these older videos. It also really makes me feel closer to my roots. I live about 50 km outside of Toronto now, and for many years lived and worked downtown Toronto, I've been here for over 25 years, but I was born and raised in NB on a 10,000 acre farm. It was crappy land, mostly rock (your challenges with your bed rock make me remember the many summers spent "picking rocks" before potato planting season. Every year we hauled more loads of rock out of the fields, we had lots of land for many generations but it was poor land not really suitable for much of anything. Well thanks for coming to my walk down memory lane. These days when you face such adversity you remind people that perseverance patience and some good planning are cornerstone to working through most of what life throws at us. Glad to hear about the new ATV and that winch got repaired!

Russ, I know it's a pain in the A$$. Why don't you use this as a "great opportunity". Run back in a day or two with the chain saw and cut a detour around these bad areas of the trail, at least then you have the trail and an alternate when the trail is trashed. What you cut down toss into the mud to fill the holes, especially that hole you threw the palette into. Make it safer for you and Alicia. Glad to see you got the ATV out alright. Glad to see you didn't take a mud bath either.
