Hi Russ!! A lot of times slush is caused by pressure cracks in the ice. The ice expands as it freezes and the force causes it to crack and get forced up at a weaker point. The snow on top insulates the water so that it doesn't freeze. Typically it is still safe to go on, just great for getting stuck... we used to carry a bumper jack on the snowmobile to lift the track out of the slush and clean it out.

The water on the ice is called overflow, happens when there is a lot of snow on the ice and the weight of the snow pushes the ice down, saw this on Ice Road Truckers.Take your tires and make a trail,so the ice is exposed to the air and it will freeze better.

What a good man Ray.. Helping you out.. I guess it can get a bit overwhelming when you only see stuff needing to get done, but when they get done it can be inspiring to keep going too. About the wet ice, overflow as many said, but insulation due to flexible temperatures with snow to. Cold, melt, snow and quick freeze makes snow isolate the melted wet on the ice. That typically happens to me when deciding once in awhile to go ice fishing.. :) Good to see City Girl! Happy Valentines day you two! ❤️

So next year need to invest in a small snowblower to help keep the ice uncovered and make an ice road to the other side? Easy to maintain a nice skating area once you can clear the snow by having a small 50ish gallon tank on a cart to run a water bar over the ice. A winch with a long enough cable/rope to get down the hill so you can just drag the logs to the shore of the pond then use the winch to pull up the hill. Fixed to a tree at the top of the hill where you can have the battery will let you use tools to pull the logs up.

They make a plastic cone with hole in the middle of the cone. Use a towing strap attached to the tree run the strap tag end through the hole attach it to your snow machine. The idea is then u can transport felled trees thru the bush without the tree bogging down in the snow or as a deflection from standing timber getting stuck

Hi Russell, the kitchen is going to look great. I like the corner countertop. Will there be a lazy susan turntable inside of it? Those are big trees you got across the way. I remember when I was a kid when Dad and I would drive the lakes for ice fishing and the slush flying from the wheels with the cracking underneath. He always made those trips interesting that way. Enjoyed last night, thanks. And I feel sort of guilty to tell you it was 70F here today. While the place we want to move to the north received 10" of snow and power outage. I miss that.

A pleasant forty minutes Russell, thank you. Ray lol, he wants to bash on. Always good to see City Girl and with her planning the garden thought I would say perhaps she should look at the Krakty and also try the hydroponic method, considering the ground conditions there. Some versions use a floating raft in a tank, lol you have a big tank outside perhaps a floating raft on the pond? Am trying Krakty myself but using ten inch pots that the supermarket display flowers in, asked nicely and got over 170 of them! A ten inch circular pot drip tray fits nicely into the top and a hole drilled into the top neatly sits a net cup. For a good growing channel using compost etc in these ten inch pots is a KZbin channel called Home Grown Veg, worth a look at surprising his root crop yields in these pots,

@@RaspberryRockOffGridCabin It’s called a skidding cone but I suspect you already knew that because you watch Shawn’s videos.

@@Keachybean The things I learn 😁. I live in the Netherlands and at 68 have neither the opportunity nor the slightest intention to dragging logs - but watched Shawn James and this skidding cone and thought ‘now that’s handy’.

England. Hi Russell, you made my heart thump when you hit that soggy patch, let me know next time. My wife thinks you are the best on KZbin. I agree, not perhaps for what you do but what you don't pretend to be. I'm waiting for one of the 2 night solo snow campers to go the whole hog and go with nothing but a pair of their wifes drawers and a broken penknife. I do hope the dogs are OK, they seem pretty chirpy. Good mate you have there. Best Regards.

Ray seems like a pretty good guy, hard worker, and i like the plans for the new kitchen.. (make sure he come back) ur going to need the help! Russ, instead of having a long curtain hanging from the wall infront of ur door, why dont u buy a magnetic curtain rod, they are for metal doors, they are dirt cheap, can get them at home hardwere or almost anywhere that u can buy curtains, anyway now im starting to sound like "Molly Maid her self,.. lmao... go to go!, have a great week my friend!!

Get a roll of concrete reinforcement wire and make wire tubes for your garden. You can grow a lot in a small spot by growing up. Good luck.
