I have always used a ‘whatever was around’ card in my pi’s. Amazing how we are all squeezing every little inch out of these fantastic little computers. They truly are more powerful than they get credit for.

Ok, I’ll eat my words-that random I/O speed is super solid to be over the SD slot. I still wouldn’t say it’s a better option/value compared to a cheap SSD+adapter.

Won't fit in my custom case either. Dremel it out that's what I did. Every time see your power strip am jealous. Individual on/off switches for each outlet. Sweet.

What an oddly dysfunctional design. It already sticks out so far that a longer neck wouldn't have mattered but would have made it much more compatible. However, a vertical design for the storage chip where it would angle up would arguably have been much more compact. Entire design seems like a prototype.

I'm going to guess that them Raspikey's won't fit with an Argon 1 case either by the looks of it

I think the work you've done testing so many cards is great, but the data presentation could be a bit cleaner. You have so many cards at this point its a bit hard to compare when looking at text. You could place the data on a libreoffice calc spreadsheet and make a bar plot for each category (sequential, random read and random write) and it's much more useful and easy to read. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to undermine your work, it's just a tip about presenting the data.

I guess you should compare it with booting system from SD card in USB 3.0 reader (like SanDisk Mobile Mate UHS-I microSD) which makes everything faster compared to the same microSD card in the SD slot. At least in Pi4. I am not sure if other models can boot from USB.

Lee, did you try the Raspikey in your Pi400? It looks like there should be plenty of room but I wanted to get your thoughts before I make the purchase.

In general, if the key does not fit to the case you could use a short micro-sd extension cable if it's possible by the case

Always great videos , an off topic question. I see your videos about vulkan and ppsspp , i tried but GTA, Burnout and more games are displaying corrupt graphics cars are falling through grass roads etc. Not playable. The same roms on a PC with ppsspp are fine. Could you take a look at this PI4 / 8GB latest drivers , SSD samsung ,Twister OS , tried vulkan but verry slow. Tried also an other Retropie image same result.

A Raspikey eMMC tops out at only 32gb? I'll stick with booting off my USB C mounted M.2 drive that's 500gb.

I think you'll agree it is much better than a sd card and represents better value. Just wanted you to know my friend and may be you'll be able to tell your viewers about this alternative. More than likely not a argon either? Could you give me some dimensions? I would love one in my argon case mainly because that case is aweful to remove sdcard's from(actually broke one in it) for some reason, currently use a plastic tool now when I remove them and avoid any pressure on the card . I'm a fan of sdcards I do have an OMV NAS setup on a external ssd but for the system I don't see the advantage I''m using Sandisk Extreme pro 64GB A2's and can play 4k 10bit with out a problem smoothly running from them I don't do alot of gaming(On the pi anyway) and that is where I feel the SSD may be advantageous

Lifespan of a eMMC drive more than likely much better too? I have noticed the speed of my cards falling off slightly after about a 6 months to a year of heavy use.

Depends on how much clearance your slot has. Also it may not work as the Pi 4 needed an up to date bootloader.

Most flash drives are much slower some will be faster. Plus it doesn’t take up a usb slot. EMMC should be more reliable for running an os.

Try formatting with Raspberry Pi imager. If that doesn’t work I have a video formatting devices with windows that fixes most things

it may not be recoverable. I have had usb drives fail and become unrecoverable in the past
