I have been wanting to do that to a couple of of the exact same units that I work on. Electrical is my struggle and I am slowly overcoming it, a lot more in the last month or two then ever before so I don’t quite understand the wiring just yet but the video was absolutely great.

We are doing the opposite, converting to digital. Using external relays for load. Gives you more control of fanstart, drip duration, compressor minimum runtime & hold time. Like, if your compressor is a LST type, with PTC starting device, you wan't it to stop mnimum for ex. 5min before restart. I prefer Danfoss EKC202D and Dixell XR60CX. Most Dixell, which have some nice features..

Back in the day, TI made a controller called the 5TI. I saw these in machines from Liebert and New York Blower. They used the 5TI because it used separate I/O modules, which could carry a load without overheating the logic module. I never had to replace an output module on one of these. But, those all-in-one controllers (like the tiny Omron units) were my bread and butter. They just can't handle constant high loads. Ever touch one that's been running for a while? They get HOT. Everything about them just seems to be too small to handle anything over 10 amps for very long.

Plenty of that digital controllers here in Spain on every EVERY single reach in, prep-table, rail, etc IF NOT with resistor defrost. Very rare to see mechanical (some Theben Fri77 or Grässlin on old school walk ins). Ako, Eliwell, Dixell, Carel and Osaka are the norm. Zanotti on walk-ins. That said, these amperages this controler said can handle without external relays or contactors sounds simply incredible.

I prefer mounting the thermostat and time clock outside of that internal "wiring cover", so it's easier to access. mainly because we quite often have random power outages due to thunderstorms and some times snow, ice and high winds, so the clocks are always need reset to keep health department happy

when you said all mechanical in last video thought you meant an old school mechanical "cap tube-sense bulb thermostat" also :) least they used an actual "omron" brand relay and not come chinesium may work a week model
@phil955i6 жыл бұрын
If the relay on the LAE controller can't handle the current draw when the condenser chokes up why not run a separate relay with a higher rating (as you did when you fitted the True relay)? Also, there is the option on most electronic controllers to disable the evap. probe & they then just revert to timed depending on what's set in the defrost duration setting. I get that you guys over there prefer electro-mechanical controls to electronic BTW, a colleague has recently emigrated to the States from here in England & said as much.

id recommend adding a " Delay on break timer " to safe guard the compressor & give the relay a fighting chance. i would ad it to the relay coil side. just remember to clip the redwire on delay on make timer for 120 volt. i dont think the Etc has time delay feature. id set delay on make for 5 minutes. in case someone opens the door after compressor cycles off. Good news u stiill got room in that box. 😂😂😂
@OcRefrig6 жыл бұрын
You want to use a " delay on break timer ". a " Delay on break " timer starts counting the delay down as soon as the timer is de-energised. a "Delay on make" timer - starts counting as soon as the timer is energised.
@throttlebottle59066 жыл бұрын
the ranco temp controller has an adjustable delay built in, to keep from short cycling, not sure how sensitive it is to power blinks, but I'd assume pretty fast and stay off for the delay. not many of them around here, majority is all mechanical/sense bulb setups.
@OcRefrig6 жыл бұрын
sorry throttle , maybe i am wrong. its been a while since i used a etc. i just use the a421 and 1419. i could have sworn they had no asd. but i just read pdf and it says compressor delay. maybe its a new thing on newer models. i thought the older etc did not have dealys.

Good vid. How did u run the Etc sensor ? i guess there is a tube running up to the evap for the thermistors , i guess u just used that tube ? if u want to do a part 3 u could show where the sensor is , how u ran it , and do a wiring diagram of wiring on a piece of paper with exact wiring. id watch that vid. icant belive you fit all that stuff into that box. even true puts the clock outside. ive Replaced many of those Relays with contactors. thats the only thing i would have done different. i bsolutely hate those piece of shit true self contained relays. they are too light of duty in my opinion for a 3/4 hp, i know they say they are rated for it. But, ive replaced them all with contactors. i mount them on the Far left wall underneath , on the T-49F Freezers. it works awesome. Stiil, Cool video ! i Never imagined u could fit a defrost clock , a Etc 111000 & a relay in that Small box. Major thumbs up on that !
@NorCal-refrigeration6 жыл бұрын
OcRefrigeration,Hvac & Electrical. The true relay works because it’s sealed so a little more safety if fingers get in there messing with the tstat. I drilled a whole in the box for the probe and ran the etc probe up the middle to the top strapped to the door divider. That’s the return air in the front.
@OcRefrig6 жыл бұрын
Thanks. yea, understood. i figured u might of just attached the etc probe to the screw at the front of fan guard with a wire tie. thats prob how i would have done it. and use the chase for the thermistor wires where they run them up to evap area. but, drilling hole i s a Good option too and running up door jam works good too. allways more than one way to skin a cat.
