(Contact licensing@viralhog.com for licensing/usage info.) Andre Chin AKA Chino Linkz went to Jamaica to visit his family. That's when he got to meet his uncle's friend - a Rastaman sporting 3-foot-long deadlocks that he has been growing since the age of 15. Respect!

This is my 2nd time growing locks. I allowed my hair to grow for spiritual reason after my sister's death in 2002. After grieving I knew when it was time to cut the locks out. I had accepted her transition. My mother died in 2020 of COVID-19. Shortly after I started my locks again. For some people hair locking is a spiritual awakening, a period of showing grief, pain etc. As you heal the locks will let you know. It is truly powerful. Wearing locks is not just about having long hair. Like most of you mentioned it's a expression of moments in our lives. Each lock tells a story.

He also seemed to keep his hair very organized for it being so long. One misconception is people tend to think that all dread heads don't wash their hair. His hair looks clean and he has a system to protecting it. Thanks for sharing this video. It's amazing.

I admire his commitment! I always get frustrated when my locs get too long and then I cut them (I'm part Tahitian and Japanese so my hair grows like a weed). But when they're too long they take too much time to wash and dry; and I always end up cutting them. I really admire this guy! But I wonder if he has naturally dry hair so he doesn't need to wash it very often?

because for one, esp in america personal hygiene is so important. so people with dreads are expected to wash them all the time and keep them retwisted and neat. but people like myselffff, that let them grow out and dont wash them for about 4 months or longer at a time (they never actually smell bad) are considered dirty. but dreads isn't like regular hair, you dont wash them like that. so yah lol

There is a misconception that black hair needs to be washed daily to be healthy. Much to the surprise of those ignorant of the subject, black hair does not need to be (daily washing does more damage than good). People who don't understand dreads or black hair in general, can only support their own morning shower routines.

You can see from how takes his bun down that the hair is protected and we'll groomed. This man knows how to look after his hair. There were nice individual locks. so pretty and even. No big clumps of matted hair. This guy is a natural. Question is it time to get a little trim so that it does not drag on the floor. Good for Rasta God bless. ✔👍👌🔥😉

@AvatarBluechild
@AvatarBluechild 9 жыл бұрын
DreadfulControversy 40 years is a long time to let your locks grow brother. Indians or at least Indian Saadhus are not competing with Jamaicans/Rasta or any 1else with locks, & this Rasta man or man with locks isn't competing either, they are simply following their paths. Since you competitively mentions that "Indians don't have shxt on this dude when it comes to length" well, their are enuff Saadhus with enuff length & way more length on locks than this brother here, just google & look at the images of Saadhus like LaL Baba & many other Saadhus & Saadhvis maintaining their lock & length for many years too, but like I said brother, this isn't a competition, if this brother's spiritual goal includes unity especially if his belief is of Rastafarian which part of its origins stem from the Indian Saadhus of Vedic Hinduism/Shaivism their is no point down playing Indian people, our culture, & Saadhus which has positively influenced Jamaican way of life (& visa versa) especially Rastafarian since 1845 when the 1st Indian Presence in Jamaica of indentured Indians who were transported to work on sugar cane plantations by the British colonialists, & many of them were Saadhus who had locks (Jattah) & planted Ganja (from the sanskrit word Ganjika) giving birth to Indo-Caribbean origins for the Indians in Jamaica, a struggle together by two peoples (who were originally one) but enslaved by same one oppressor. But even if you disagree that's fine, the point I'm making here is that length of locks not competition, certainly not from the Saadhus. We were enslaves/colonised too, from separated lands, & in Jamaica is where we (our people) united. Peace brother.

+S Kamble No disrespect intended brother, I just felt it was my place to peacefully defend & correct an unfactual statement by DreadfulControversy of a universal & ancient cultural meditative/spiritual journey which can & does affect a person's outward appearance too, though it's an inner spiritual/metaphysical journey which holds the ultimate deepest importance, but the inner journey does also affects & transform a person's thoughts, deeds & interactions outwardly into the physical world towards others too, & our appearances can change too, either dress sense or hair, shaven headed maintaining baldness like the vedic indian brahmins, or shaolin monks etc., or the growing of hair & letting it lock up like the ancient & modern vedic indian Priest Saadhus, Rishis & Yogis, or of ancient Egyptian holy Priests, & up to the recent early 1930s Rastafari, etc, either way this symbolises a conscious decision made to focus way less on style or vanity due to the physical. Length is just a process & outcome of that minimum focus on the physical. Perhaps "DreadfulControversy" expressed his comment in jest, but his comment certainly has superiority undertones downplaying Indians which wasn't necessary to do so. To make one look good by making another look bad doesn't serve anyone, certainly not this brother in the video who is uninterested in competition. Besides, if we're talking on length then their are plenty of images of way more length in locks on Indian Saadhus, but like I have mentioned before in my previous message, length is not a competition. It is just tooooooo easy for me to say "rastas aint got sh*t on indians when it comes to hair length", that would be mighty arrogant of me to say about this brother, father, grandfather, maybe even great grandfather, in this video, who like a vast library, may well possess a wealth of knowledge & experience. I looked into this brothers eyes & face & saw no flaired ego, only humility & grace. Peace brother.

@AvatarBluechild
@AvatarBluechild 9 жыл бұрын
+DreadfulControversy No need to write intricate dissertations! lol Really? Your joke is directed on Indians, & you clearly think it's not serious since your joke is not on you or Jamaicans or Afrikans. No doubt if you were protective of self, self cultural history & self preservation especially due to the false histories written by invaders & colonisers or slave masters of your land & people then you would want to speak up in defence for yourself or your peoples of such discriminative, malicious & baseless jokes which were being made on you or them. For me to be calm is another baseless saying of yours, & it's irrelevant here. Cloaking & defending your nonsense joke of a comment with another nonsense reply as you have done above is more important than what you actually say it seems, so yes, the few basic facts I mentioned previously for your benefit which you call "intricate dissertations" are much need.

Growing my dreads for 17 years, I am 5,11 feet, my dreads reach the ground. My dreads were very thick and heavy, I remember those days during winter time, doing my weekly wash early in the morning, so I could dry it properly. It got to a point that I couldn't turn my neck for 3 days. I came to find out that the weight of the dreads damaged my neck cartilage. 40 years with dreads and that long, with a perfect neck to hold it is incredible. BIG UP MATTY DREAD, RASTAFARI.
