Humility gives the soul wings, Arrogance (most assuredly) buries the soul. He was trying to summon courage(fools courage, not real courage), of that I have no doubt. Maybe it worked. One of the few lessons that my mother taught me(she is a very evil individual). If you lie to yourself enough, you can believe the lie. To find grace in God, is by taking Responsibility. Being humble, knowing we all do wrong. Arrogance is about the lie of knowing all(as Dad said, having all the answers). Only God has all the answers. With his arrogance (fools courage, fools arrogance) he guaranteed his final stop.

I am so grateful for this recent series on the ratlines, as for the rest of Dr Felton's production. I remember when a teenager, my dad was telling me of the involvement of the Vatican to help Nazis escaping to South America. It surfaces that at different times these criminal minds knowledge was required by different countries. But in most of the instances, The Vatican was there to help. I guess this was their way at participating in the wiping out of a competitors faith

This series, and the additional work Dr. Felton has done are critical to preserving truths that could easily dissipate amid the indifferent sands of time and be lost forever. Or worse, fuel disingenuous "alternative" versions of these facts and drive false historical revisionism.

I am fascinated by each of your videos, today however even more so. I had the privilege to attend Klaus-Barbie's trial in Lyon. My grandfather testified against him, and I accompanied him. I wasn't old enough to really understand what was really going on unfortunately - I was less than ten and had zero notions about the World Wars- but I'm proud to have accompanied and supported my grandfather in this difficult trial. I used to live next to the Courthouse, and each time court was in session you'd see journalists everywhere, and the thing broadcasted on the night's news. But even then, I understood as a child that this wasn't really about judging the accused, but more offering proper closure to his victims. And in Lyon ... they were many. And the trial stirred up a lot of things best left forgotten, like the divide about who betrayed Moulin, and re-opened old wounds. But it was for the best. My grandfather felt at peace afterwards, and I think he wasn't the only one. As for me, well ... listening/watching the trial made me look into that era of history. I have been fascinated by it ever since. It's one of my hobbies - to study the World War II era, and by extent the history of the XXth century in a broader sense, along with Egyptology, I even got a degree "for fun" for the later a few years back. I'm actually working in Physics. I don't mention it on my Curriculum though, it might look indecisive to some to see that I have a degree in Egyptology along my physics diplomas XD

It's a rather incredible piece. Both as an example of the unusual nature of Soviet cinematography/production as well as something of a unique look at Elem Kilmov's experiences and viewpoint. He actually had a film banned by the state for being critical of Soviet ineffeciency and bureaucracy, later unbanned by Khurushchev. You don't regularly see entire hillsides resculpted and thousands of soldiers and extras with many real vehicles, weapons, explosives etc. pulled aside for a war movie outside of centralized regimes. Though telling a story of an the oppressed struggling against imperialist fascists was always a dead cert to get well funded. Great movie, highly recommend it. It's certainly not "enjoyable" in the typical sense. As it should be.

Really loving this series as all your videos Mark Felton! What an interesting photo for episode 4. Actually for all of these 5 episodes, it would be great to have the people in the photos identified as much as possible. I know some of them, but not all. I also wonder who is taking this photo and for what purpose... lots of possibilities.

7:20 "While he was under house arrest in Surrey in 1999, the former Chilean military dictator Augusto Pinochet received a fine malt from an old friend. “Scotch is one British institution that will never let you down,” read the accompanying note from its sender: the former British prime minister Margaret Thatcher."

I like how these are audio only. I'll be honest I don't watch many of your videos I only listen to them because I'm a truck driver and I listen to him when I drive. Really good stuff though I have watched a few of your videos but most of them I listen to and you do such a good job narrating them I don't even have to watch him. But I will admit some of your videos have some scenes and photos of things I've never seen before and are very interested thank you

Mr Felton : I find your approach to war crimes so unbiased and precise that I'll take the liberty of asking you to produce,at least one audio programme on the infamous "Plan Condor". There's plenty of books that have been published on the subject in the spanish speaking world, but unfortunately it is seldom known in North America (Canada included,of course). I am sure that your talents and investigative skills will be very much appreciated by the survivors from the Latinoamerican community. Greetings from Toronto.

The reality is many countries were empathic or even in on it. they restrained themselves with persecution for fear that they may be found out and the same done to themselves.

Listening to this you begin to realise the amount of devious double dealing that went on (and probably still does) and why countries don't trust each other. The injustice and disgrace cant be adequately condemned.

Nobody does WWII like Mark Felton. I have learned so much. Incredibly interesting. The younger generations should have to watch in history class. They barely know anything about WWII...or any other historical wars, for that matter.

The thumbnail for this episode is spectacular. It seems so strange to see colorized versions of ww2 pictures where the men look so real. Not sure how to describe what I mean but it seems like the typical pictures look so different in black and white it's hard to picture the actual scene.

Every year or so I come back and listen to all marks stories again as they are so fascinating, well researched and show both the worst of humanity and also the courage, hope and will to survive when we hear of how people against all odds banded together to make breakouts or resist the Nazis. Well done these stories should be taught in schools😅
