I think you should Name the turtle “Laz” or “Laz Jr” Lore could be that the people of the village, see the turtle as a reincarnation of Laz. Since he has died so recently, and the turtle self tamed, it could be that this is a remanent of Laz’s soul staying in this universe, looking after his people by taking the form of a humble turtle. I don’t know, could be cool.
