The wisdom of Tata was to give JLR the independence to continue doing what they do best without too much interference from abroad; similar to SoftBank’s light-touch ownership of ARM. Too many owners try to micro-manage their acquisitions and end up ruining the ‘secret sauce’ that made the target company successful in the first place. (This seems to be especially the case with luxury British car brands).

Your friends were right. JLR are the most unreliable and problematic cars in the world. For every 3 rupees TATA has put in JLR, they have got 1 rupee back. Means loss in billions ! Worst decision ever for TATA.
