The hell is so hard about using her her as a supporting character? • She could just be going on her own adventures and throughout the game you could hear about her missions in the radio, maybe even see the things that she did on other planets. • She could break Ratchet out from a trap and help him escape. • She could sell Ratchet a magoffin item, she has gotten from her adventures. • Ratchet could need a bounty Hunter to help him track down people and hear Angela isn't too far away. After going into the the planet they get news that Angela has been captured by a rare species collector. Ratchet has to save her so she could help him track down his target. She could fit any of these roles, it's not hard, just stop tiptoeing around her. It honestly brings more attention to her than showing her. We're not asking for her to be a third playable character, but at least clear up the half ass explanation of her. It's better than not doing anything. Ratchet should also shut up about being the last of his kind.

The problem is not what role she could fill in a new story, but how she fits into the Future saga narrative with Ratchet being the last Lombax, without retconning a bunch of stuff. The moment they bring her back they have to answer the questions of how there is a Lombax other than Ratchet, why Ratchet and Clank never thought of her even once during the whole Future saga and why neither her nor Ratchet reacted to the fact that it was the first time both of them saw another member of their species in Going Commando.

@@Katares At this point I don't know if the story in general is even solid enough to continue. I'll honestly add a few throw always line of Ratchet talking about how he feels in the pass. Maybe something about how he gets so focus into his adventures he kinda forget about the many people he could ask for help, (Could have this as a joke) that's why he keeps on losing any possible love interest, Including Angela. He meets a girl one than he's off to a new Galaxy without a single word. It would be even easier if they continue the reboot especially since it's not a perfect 1to1 retelling in going commando, both Angela and Ratchet could have more likes together.

​@@Katares I know this is an old video but I have my own headcanon figured out now after watching this: I read in another comment that in the comics Angela was grown genetically and has part Lombax DNA. Even if that's true she's still practically a Lombax in this discussion since Tachyon still chased her down as a Lombax, and many of the previous questions still stand. Firstly, it's best if Ratchet doesn't recognise Angela as a Lombax in GC since its much easier to explain how they interact that way. The difference I think is partly due to the lack of a tail (easily explained by Angela's clumsiness and various dangerous scientific work) but also the ears. Like at 14:08 , Angela's ears look much more like Sasha's than any other Lombax in the games, or in reference artwork e.g. the logo in the old Dimensionator film tape in ToD, the montage pictures in ACiT, concept art (although probably shouldn't be taken as canon) the Lorb shrines in Rift Apart with the distinctive ears etc. Although Ratchet wouldn't be aware of these references at the time of GC. It would be easy to add a yellow version of Sasha's species (whatever that is) in the universe in a new game, as a plausible species for Ratchet to be confused with. Conversely, Angela had probably never seen or heard of another Lombax for similar reasons to Ratchet throughout the original trilogy, being sent to a remote planet for safety, and didn't really recognise what Ratchet was. Perhaps if female Lombaxes all have bushy tails like Rivet (sort of like Angela's hair), then she wouldn't have a suspicion of similarity seeing Ratchet's tail. The main similarities are the head shape, fur colour and markings on the ears. Also it's probably a bit rude to deadpan ask what species someone is when you first meet them, particularly within the events of GC. Perhaps she did ask later but Ratchet clearly doesn't know about the Lombaxes in the originals, like Angela, so it probably goes nowhere at that point. Fast forward to ToD. Both Angela and Ratchet are now aware of the Lombaxes history through their own separate means. Ratchet probably still doesn't suspect Angela as a Lombax for the aforementioned reasons. Angela may realise Ratchet is a Lombax but can't contact him since she is also being chased down by Tachyon; maybe doesn't want to give out a radio signature or lead Tachyons forces to Ratchet or something like that. She ends up bumping into Max Apogee and escape the galaxy, and stage their own death to take Tachyon off their tail (or lack thereof). Whatever happens to them after this is speculation, like in the radio broadcast, for future writers to fill in. But for whatever reason they couldn't get back in contact with Ratchet after ToD. There is a reference to Rivet meeting Angela in Zordoom prison in the new game, whether this is the same or alternate Angela (or someone else completely called Angela for the lols) is unknown. An interesting question is at what point Angela realised she's a Lombax. Perhaps through her genetics work or something.

This. It's been a little over 6 years since Into the Nexus, and 10 years since A Crack in Time (the last full fledged release). All we've had since then is a bad reboot of the first game to tie into a bad movie reboot of the first game.

Imagine if we get a whole game's worth of development of their relationship. They start off kinda icy since Ratchet feels like she bailed on him instead of warning him about Tachyon. But then over the course of the game they go back to how they were at the end of Going Commando. Maybe even have a level where half of it is no enemies so you just have a bonding moment between Angela and Ratchet exploring beautiful scenery. But then it's interrupted by the other half of the level being a full on shootout as enemies rain down from the sky in drop pods and the once beautiful scenery is ruined by the carnage. Kinda like in Skyrim with the Dawnguard DLC, you just bond with Serana in a beautiful ancient grove chasing moths then enemies invade the sanctuary and attack both of you.

@@ShockwaveFPSStudios Don't forget Hydro Girl from Deadlocked. She wanted Ratchet to look her up on Aquatos, Ratchet was very willing to take her up on it. Clank does get more girls then Ratchet but that's because he's flirting with them and a movie star. Ratchet usually focuses on heroics and his day job. So unless he interacts constantly with a girl on his day job or heroics like Talwyn, he's not likely to seek a girl out. Though he should at least have Angela's, Sasha's, Hydro Girl's and Talwyn's numbers on his contact list.

I feel Angela should return. Cause I feel there's more they could do with the relationship between her and Ratchet. Like, maybe, after the events of Into The Nexus, Ratchet and Clank go to the Lombax dimension and find Angela and Max. There could be tension. Like, Ratchet feels upset that Angela bailed on him, without telling him the dangers of Tachyon. With Angela feeling regret of leaving Ratchet behind. Likewise, Max could be called out by Ratchet for ditching his daughter and leaving her alone. He could also fill in Max what happened to Cronk and Zepher. Really, I don't get why Angela hasn't come back yet. She could easily return and rejoin Ratchet in Polaris. Which is her actual birth home. Another thing is that Ratchet and Clank strangely don't talk about Angela. (Not counting that manual you showed. Cause I don't consider that canon) After Going Commando, Angela is never mentioned by the duo. And Ratchet doesn't react to her being mentioned in a Crack In Time. Be nice to know what they though about Angela disappearing. Hopefully she comes back. Cause I did like Angela and I thinks he could have a return. Especially since Tachyon's gone now. Meaning Angela and Max could live in the Polaris galaxy in peace.

I just feel that while Max had a good reason to leave, Talywn still felt upset about her father vanishing. Which was shown in Tools. Where she's depressed he's gone. And since Cronk and Zepher are dead, that would fuel her to want her dad to come back.

Another solution is that after their adventure in R&C2, when they were finally chilling in the apartment, Ratchet and Angela did get to discuss the fact that they were both Lombaxes. They hadn't mentioned it earlier cause they were too concerned with stopping the protopet disaster. Anyways, so they talk, discuss and bond on their history but then Ratchet ends the conversation there. Meanwhile Angela goes to try and find more answers and that's when she ran into Max Apogee. To work this into the story, have Ratchet and Angela meet each other again and either refer to their conversation in the apartment updating ratchet on all that she discovered and vice versa. Or set up some sort of flashback to this apartment scene that we never got to see. EASY!

Shouldn't be a full on remake like they did for the movie but a fresh coat of paint on a classic can do wonders. More importantly however I'd love to see the PS3 titles running at a decent resolution and framerate, maybe with a little more AA. That'd make a world of difference. With the PS5 knocking at the door I can't believe that we only got a single R&C on PS4, which incidentally ended up being the only game I bought a PS4 for so there's that.

@@aspen1713 Not really. There's a lombax named Lorna Cross, who's a presumed relative. Azimuth mentions her by name. It's entirely likely her missing tail is either in her jumpsuit (she was trying to hide her identity early on, and it's equally likely the devs didn't want to animate a tail on her) or it was lobbed off. Note that she's really clumsy in game. Lack of balance, perhaps? Could it be because of a missing tail?

This is a classic example of how even a few changes to dialogue and details could've prevented this problem. During the conversation in ACIT between Ratchet and Alister after Lorna Cross is mentioned have Ratchet put 2 and 2 together leading to a conversation that implies that neither Ratchet nor Angela know what a member of the opposite sex looks like and just assumed they were different species during their interactions in GC. I mean Sasha looks closer to Ratchet than Angela yet she's a different species. Insomniac kinda does that with the radio but having the characters do it would've probably been better. This makes it so that by the time ToD rolls around the only characters who know Angela is a lombax are Angela, Max Apogee, and Tachyon. 2 are missing and Tachyon probably assumes she's dead so he wouldn't mention her to Ratchet. This maintains the ToD narrative of last lombax alive while still keeping Ratchet in the dark as to Angela and her identity. It also eliminates the problem that arises with their lack of reactions about it during their interactions in GC. Unfortunately this isn't the path Insomniac chose and now they've written themselves into a corner with regards to Angela. This should be used as a lesson to all prospective story writers that even minor details can have drastic consequences long term if you're not careful.

If I remember correctly, in Deadlocked, in the beginning cutscene where Big Al is fixing Ratchet's armour and after he activates the speech, Ratchet expresses his anger with Al and that his tail feels like it is shoved right up his (Al cuts the speech)

I like your new intro to start off the new year. In the second part of my fan made trilogy, Angela escaped to the Lombax dimension with Max and started dating a male lombax that looks like your lombax avatar. Angela also helped the other Lombaxes with stabilizing walls of reality so they won't collapse due to usage of the Dimentionator. (Did I spell that wrong?) She wasn't aware of her past about Tachyon either and figured Ratchet was just some other dude. Hopefully, everything you said will be implemented in the future and no one will get confused anymore.

Going Commando if rebooted would already need some rewriting given Quark was technically the big bad of that game, since his redemption was already established in the reboot of the first game he cant be the villain in the reboot of the second game, unless Insomniac wants to give Quark an evil twin in the rebootverse.

I actually like the idea of female Lombaxes not having tails. It makes them more unique and gives us more of what little information we have of them. The whole Rivet having a tail thing I feel could be explained with the fact that since she’s from another dimensions with its own separate set of rules that either all Lombaxes have tails there, or females do and males don’t or having a tail or not having one could be a rare genetic within the species. So much is already different in their universe, why not how species evolved? Like how in DBS explained that Saiyans from Universe 7 are born with tails while Saiyans from Universe 6 aren’t.

I think it's obvious the whole lombax being rare thing was never considered. They never referenced each other as another lombax because I feel like at the time the creators imagined there were many lombax in universe, we just never saw them. Then it would be an easy retcon. Ratchet could have just had a moment of, "wait, I've met other lombax." Heck, the retcon could come in the form of a game, questing for her and other scattered lombax that escaped.

I mean, yeah I get it. Having any one character be a long term love interest for Ratchet would complicate writing since a lot of people would want to play as her too. However, if Insomniac games simply brought her back as an NPC for now, have her doing stuff in the background, I think fans would be content. As long as she's back in the picture, confirmed as a lombax with or without a tail, a result of simple genetic differences between male and female lombax's...or an accident (explaining why she's clumsy). I think fans would be happy with that.

It's not all that difficult really, and this is coming from a long time fan AND writer. Introduce her in the second game the same way she was in the original Going Commando. Literally the only thing that's needed, is a couple of extra scenes and dialogue near the end confirming they've decided to go for it. That way she can be in the 3rd game with more impact as a fem fetal, how would I do that? Easy. At first, Ratchet has the spotlight sure, but when it comes to all the secret agent stuff, things needing to be done behind the scenes. Scrap the stupid Q-Force, and have Angela take care of those missions instead...even as a playable character. Instead of Skid getting kidnapped and turned machine, make it her so there is that weight of, it's not just a random guy we don't care about that got turned... that will give more weight to Ratchet wanting to go after the Doctor. You can still have Quark himself there, just have Angela be that personal investment for Ratchet. I could go on and on through all of the games (even deadlocked), but the point is: This is more than doable and can even add some real weight to the writing in the series. Damn, wish I could contact these guys and just give them my ideas and how to bring everything to life.

I always noticed in tools of destruction and throughout the future saga, is that the events of going commando were erased from data banks and minds, mind control is a known technology in the R&C verse, thanks to Secret Agent Clank which due to some coincidences connecting to Size Matters which was confirmed to be canon so yeah, it's likely that Angela sometime before the events of tod was being pursued by tacheyon and to cover her tracks she wiped the minds of everyone she ever known or at least had some sort of recollection of the events that happened in Bogon as well as any databases that had records of those events, she likely did it to not only save herself, but Ratchet too.

But if they do bring her back I think they should make her look a little more like a lombax. They could just make her ears look a bit more like Ratchets and give her a tail. I think you said this before Vivi that they could give her a tail and just say she hid it the whole time, and I think that would be a good idea so that fans don’t have to fight over if she’s a “real lombax”. Also people have brought up whether she will replace Talwin and as Ratchets girlfriend but I actually think it would be a cool idea if Angela Cross had a girlfriend. Maybe they could bring back Sasha and then also add her to the story and make Angela and Sasha a couple. Of course the main focus would still be on Ratchet and Clank and the whole Lombax plot but I think side story’s would be cool to kinda connect everything together.

Of course Angela should come back, the story potential with her and Ratchet going on an adventure to learn about their Lombax heritage is too much to pass up. With Nexus showing Clank taking the Dimensionator to possibly rebuild, they could go to the Lombax dimension and learn about their kind. Maybe not all is perfect in the Lombax dimension and they have to save them from themselves. Then with that dimension saved but in disrepair, they all migrate back to the main universe and the Lombaxes return to galactic society. I was always frustrated that Elora never showed up again in Spyro after her cameo in 3. Her situation is similar to Angela's in that Insomniac didn't know what to do with her, I say give her nature magic and have her as a playable character in future Spyro games. Similarly Angela can easily be given a hero version of her thief outfit and be a playable character in future Ratchet games. If Insomniac doesn't know what to do just ask the fans, we'll give them a universe worth of ideas.

@@VtnVivi That would fit with both of their personalities. Clank being the logical one would notice all the unnecessary collateral damage that the Lombaxes plans end up causing. Ratchet should be able to pick it up due to his interactions with Azimuth and the final battle with him at the Great Clock, but finally being with his entire species makes him willingly blind to it all on a subconscious level. Maybe there is a faction of Lombaxes who want to take over Lombax society and thanks to Ratchet's arrival with the Dimensionator they want to expand Lombax territory to other dimensions, whether people live there or not. I can only imagine Ratchet's reaction to having to kill members of his own species to protect the multiverse after finally reuniting with them. Especially after the events of A Crack In Time and the fate of Azimuth.

Of course she should return, she had so much personality and importance as well as so much potential to contribute to the story. Even at such a young age when I first played the games, her absence from UYA was apparent and confusing. Nowadays I feel like the series really deserves more emphasis on story and character develoipment seeing as most players now were people who grew up with the games, more mature and accepting to really delve more into the story and be less focused on non-stop action and shooting. I honestly grew up with these characters, I'd love to find out more about their pasts and personalities and connect on a deeper level than what was given to us back when the original games came out, especially Angela. No one ever forgot she was a Lombax, hell even at the age of like 10 I just always assumed she was one and tbh no one could really make me change that belief. It's just unfortunate that the story went in a direction where her apperance would've just been awkward and even more confusing. Great video, I'm just happy people still discuss these games, topics and characters. Just shows how much impact these games had and how important they were to so many people.

The problem around Future Saga, on my point. The first Lombax Ratchet meet isn't General Azimuth but she...maybe, Nefarious never know Ratchet save also Bogon Galaxy, before the two fight each other. A return maybe can open new "roads" for more games, a return to Bogon, after Great Clock events; after Ratchet know the truth about Lombax, he return to Bogon and meet again Angela about/when she is born/arrive. About her tail, I am more upset about how they tried to "fix it" in Crank in Time by claiming Lombax females have no tails, rather than her not having it in Going Commando in the first place. I mean, sexual dimorphism usually doesn't go to such lengths as missing part of the skeleton... especially the spinal part. That's just too weird for mammal like creatures to be so different. That kind of major structural body difference is usually found in invertebrates. Also it doesn't seem fans are fond of this, except fans that are very "canon word of the god" minded for the sake of it. Those now contributed to even greater problems during this controversy as they love to be heard in the discussions "closing the topic" and be smarter than the rest. I don't think the devs forgot to give her tail. They just wanted to have a mystery character that turns out to be a Lombax. And that mystery would probably not exist if she had a tail from the start. Because everyone would easily guess she was a Lombax had she had the tail while she was masked. Like everything in life, there can be many different interpretations. To me it is probably that the radio host was trying to play a smartass after overhearing that female Lombaxes don't have tails somewhere and presented it as a fact. Wouldn't be really unlike what keeps happening in the real world on a daily basis. Especially since this radio host seemed to be a bit arrogant and uptight during the conversion. She sounded like the type "I have all the facts and nothing else interests me", especially when asked in the end what she thinks happened to Angela based on the reporting they gathered, and she just without any kind of interest shut it down. In Ratchet's universe, there are soooo many species that it could make sense people don't generally know the anatomy of some species. Especially the ones that are no longer possible to encounter. Yeah, it's a bit weird that nobody remembers Lombaxes after a very short time of their absence (like half of a generation), but... the attitude of most of the inhabitants of the galaxy seems to be carelessness and self-centeredness. I wouldn't put it past them that they can all forget about a race that saved them from Cragmites after several years.

I’m gonna guess one of two things. One Angela isn’t a lombax but a near look alike different species, the lack of a tail and having smaller ears being two things that set them apart from the lombaxes. Or two, they later decided they wanted to make Ratchet a endangered species and remembered oh sh*t we already introduced a female lombax, just erase Going Commando from the timeline. Personally I think having Angela be a different species would be the best option to bring her back. Seriously, Ratchet throughout his entire interaction with her doesn’t even bat an eye about encountering potentially another last few of his species.

What I believe is that like what Tachyon did with Ratchet, he ambushed her or was ready to ambush her in the Bogon galaxy, but she was saved by Max apogee, and maybe he was gonna get Ratchet to but did'nt have to time, and/or Angela said he could take care of himself. And they would flee to the planet Jasindu and use the dimensionator to go to the lombax dimension, and that would be how the dimensionator ended up on Jasindu

Well after Rift Apart we clearly saw a female lombax with a tail AND we also had Rivet mentioning an 'Angela' who she escaped from the prison with. I think in the next game they will reintroduce her in a way. Maybe she found a way of travelling dimensons without the dimensonator and that's hown she ended up meeting Rivet and so on...

@@VtnVivi A fisrt step towards it is to have a reason for needing the lombaxes to come back. Initiating a misson to restore the dimention devise. They wouldn't need a trilogy, just a final game to wrap everything up. Make it difficult like the good old days.

@@rancorlover man this whole Lombax race fleeing to another dimension thing is on the same level of mystery as the whole race of Dwemer or dwarfs from the Elder Scrolls universe. There is technology and machines and many ruins left behind, but not a single Dwemer alive. (Except the one from Morrowind, who happened to be at a different dimension when his whole race just vanished.

7:14 - Wait wait wait... before Tachyon rose to power? I thought that Tachyon rose to power immediately after he vanquished the Lombaxes. Are you telling me that he had 17 years break after that happened, and then he rose to power off screen after Up Your Arsenal? I always assumed that Tachyon started his rule immediately after Lombaxes vanished. And that he was there ruling in the background the whole time. He just wasn't very active - he already had all he wanted, so he could have just enjoyed his rule. And even though the universe looked mostly untouched... it doesn't mean that it wasn't under his rule. Just because he was a tyrant doesn't mean it's immediately obvious everywhere you look, especially when the galaxy is so large. Even in countries where tyrants rule, it is possible to live almost normally if you don't cross them. And Tachyon only went after Ratchet after he learned of him. I guess it's still weird it took him THAT long to learn of him... but I think it's less weird than him being in hibernation for who knows how many years. Maybe you could say that it took him 17 years (Ratchet's age, in case he was abandoned right after birth) to wage a war against the rest of the galaxy and only AFTER that he conquered it. But if Tachyon was warring for 17 years with the entire galaxy... wouldn't we see that in the since the first Ratchet game all the way to Up Your Arsenal? When the quote from the writer says "Angela fled the galaxy when Tachyon came to power", I don't think it means that she fled after Going Commando. I think that when Ratchet met her in Going Commando, that was after she had fled. Because Going Commando is not happening in Polaris Galaxy but in Bogon Galaxy. Maybe that was far enough to flee from him. I think that writers making mere references to her all the time doesn't mean they can fix this... it only means they are making the problems worse. Because the crux of the problem is the contradictions she causes. It makes us question what is true and what is not, it makes the continuity sloppy, and in turn it makes us be less interested in the story because it makes us realize that whatever we learn, the future writers may simply forget, omit, contradict, disregard or drop anytime. So why caring? And the small references are only adding meaningless data-points that are potentially only introducing more stuff that can contradict. The only way to fix this is for the writers to sit down and make a comprehensive story directly focused on her or have her at least be a very important character in that story. Because the contradictions she caused relate to the core of the Future trilogy, and possibly in the next games should they ever want Lombaxes to return. Which means they can no longer just keep shifting her away from the focus.

In some ways I can imitation Angela being brought back like I imagine that Angela and mr apagy escaping into the lombax dimension some like perhaps with another dimensionator after all remember what alister said in the boss fight he said “there are no more dimensionators” meaning that there was more then one also I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again I would offer my creative talent and ideas to insomniac for free even

What I think happened is, they forgot all about Angela during UYA and Gladiator (kind of like how Jak 3 forgot all about Kiera, and had him smooch Ashelin at the end), then someone thought of a cool story idea, and to pull it off, they had to change things up so that Ratchet was the last Lombax (which makes no sense given the universe portrayed in R&C 1-3 + gladiator), and the rest is history; it was a mistake, but one they've invested far too heavily into to renegade on. If this was decided before the future trilogy, then it would've been a huge deal for these 2 to meet, the fact that it wasn't tells me that a) Lombaxes are a relatively common race in the universe, and b) there's nothing unique or special about them that necessitates everyone to stare and gawk, and c) no one cares about their species because - at least at the time - there was no reason to. Most of what you're offering here are just excuses Insomniac could try to use to justify incongruent world building.

@@VtnVivi In my opinion they messed up, and they've invested too heavily into it to just say "oh sorry, we messed up, we'll fix it in the next game!". At this point I think they've cut off all their avenues for easy solutions as well by compounding even more missteps over subsequent games. To do it properly, they'd have to retcon several games worth of stuff at this point, and that's going to anger a huge number of fans whichever way they go about it, so instead they maintain the status quo of not knowing what to do with her. The easiest solution IMO would've been to treat it as a sort of parallel universe where the lombaxes were indeed near extinction (and Angela didn't exist), and then perhaps made some spinoff games that continued the original timeline (with Angela in tow). However, as they have dragged Angela into the Future games, I feel it's now too late to take this approach. The PS2 games just don't support a universe that suggests encountering a lombax is even a rare occurrence; even if most people wouldn't react to it, giant corporate types like Vox would've been beside themselves with thoughts of the money they could make.

i don't know if or what they should do with her, but i am glad they didn't just "threw" her away after Going commando. simply because she is a Lombax (most likely at least), and since we know what happened to the Lombax species, it would kinda suck to have one of the few Lombaxdleft to be just forgotten. also, i like how a huge debate started probably cause they just forgot about a tail lol

I'm pretty much 100% sure Angela does not have a tail because it only made her thief outfit more mysterious. You know if she had a tail as the thief it would be bulbed just like ratchets tail in the top tier armors. That would have just been a dead giveaway. Or if she suddenly sprouted a tail once she lost her mask would make people question where her tail was when in disguise. But then again, ratchet looses his tail in certain disguises as well.

I know this is late but I could see her returning as a minor character later on in a game where Ratchet goes to the Lombax dimension. There she could help Ratchet and Clank look for something they need and maybe during the process give exposition confirming that she is a lombax (or maybe part lombax as I thought about that theory awhile ago) and what happened to her and Max.
