She's been with Aleena for years when that happened and have probably already been living together. This was way back in the mid-2010s, before the fiasco of the Trump term fully unfolded while Obama's term showed no improvement from Bush' term. Even if he did hold unsavory political views previously, of which we have no proof that that was anything more than money (and more solid proof that he holds relatively centrist views with his takes on the early TMG episodes), people are allowed to change political views, and he's had several takes much further left than most Democrats since then that have lost him fans.
