Hi, I stumbled across your channel today and I've been working my way through the videos chronologically. I'm really enjoying these so far. You do a good job reviewing and describing the products and have just the right amount of humor. And I don't usually like kids, but your daughter is a gem. I'm going to squeeze in a couple more hours of binge watching before bed. I actually haven't checked to see if you're still posting or not, but I hope so. Subscribed!

Aye brotha the videos you do are damn good and I really enjoy watching them. Thank you so much and I think it is really cool how your little one gets involved and eats the food to. You are an awesome dad and well done buddy. Thank you for all the good vids.

When freeze-dried processed survival food looks that delicious it tells me that perhaps I've been slimming too long. That trail mix looks mighty good too. Cheers from Vancouver!

Hi there! It's quite amazing what you can make from ~90gm of dry food. If you have a water source, the quality of freeze dried food nowadays almost makes it a no-brainer if you have to carry in food for an extended period. Featherweight these things.

Haha, thanks Lizzie. She doesn't know when the camera is rolling, so I just let her rip and she never fails to crack me up. If laughter is the best therapy, she's definitely my therapist!

Great review. I was wondering if the mash potatoes tasted like the real thing or the Sopakco MRE mash potatoes?

1weirdgirl Personally, I preferred the mash in here as opposed to the ready-made stuff in the pouches.

Good thing I had a BBQ steak before watching any more of your videos or I would be drooling all over my laptop...lol We have a similar product in Canada called "Mountain House" catered to freeze Dried food for outdoors men/women. I may have to order one and try it out because they do look tasty :)
@KiwiDudeMRE

Lol.. I'd recommend that anyone who has tried freeze dried products in the past, have a taste of what's out there in the current generation. I've found the BCC stuff rmatches and often surpasses ready-to-eat meals. Just amazing.

I recommend the Jamaican jerk chicken, best dish they make. A little boy pricier than MREs, but they are lighter and occasionally tastier.

Good review. I like the back country cuisine meal especially after an eight hour hike. I try to avoid the one's with mash packets just because of the mess they make.

'Favorite part of the video so far:Bits small piece off of a single M&M-type candy, and gently places the uneaten portion back on the spoon ;) . What are ANZAC biscuits? I've heard these mentioned elsewhere? Thanks.

Oops, forgot to answer about ANZAC biscuits. This from Wiki sums it up: An Anzac biscuit is a sweet Biscuit popular in Australia and New Zealand made using Rolled oats, flour, desiccation coconut, sugar, butter, Golden syrup, Sodium bicarbonate and boiling water. Anzac biscuits have long been associated with the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) established in World War I. It has been claimed the biscuits were sent by wives to soldiers abroad because the ingredients do not spoil easily and the biscuits kept well during naval transportation. Today, Anzac biscuits are manufactured commercially for retail sale.

Those "Pebble" things are interesting, they look a lot like Smarties. Which aren't sold in the US or NZ, but ARE up here in Canada. They're bigger and have a thicker shell than M&M's.
@KiwiDudeMRE
@KiwiDudeMRE 10 жыл бұрын
Matt Mills We get Smarties down here too. I much prefer them over M&M's to be honest. I think the ones in this pack may have been a generic substitute.

Do they make MREs for people with special dietary needs? I feel like they either would make you just eat whatever they give you or would have special meals for those people
@KiwiDudeMRE
@KiwiDudeMRE 9 жыл бұрын
MakeupMyWorld I know it differs in different parts of the world, but if we take the U.S. for example, I believe the only concession made is the inclusion of some vegetarian MRE's in the cases. Hopefully those in the know may be able to chime in and respond in greater detail
@Jaybird196
@Jaybird196 10 жыл бұрын
Well, that certainly went, and looked, a lot better than I thought it might :) . I was rather pleased with how the potatoes turned out. Some companies recommend a little too much water with such things, and the US MRE type typically have a touch too little. And, the portions of everything else looked quite satisfactory, as well .

Good point, so I checked the BCC website and found the following: "After packing, the food is heat-sealed in foil pouches from which all the air has been removed and replaced with nitrogen gas. This keeps the food safe and flavoursome for at least three years without the need for preservatives."

@KiwiDudeMRE
@KiwiDudeMRE 10 жыл бұрын
Welcome to the channel :-) I just had a look myself. It does indeed look like an oxygen absorber, but it's actually a ridge running across the bottom of the packet. Once the bottom is opened up to form a bowl the ridge disappears (if that makes any sense). The BCC website states that during packaging these rations are purged of air and replaced with nitrogen gas, perhaps negating the need for the O2 absorber?

@KiwiDudeMRE 10 жыл бұрын
No mate, you're not a moron :) I did the 'quick look' video a while back, showing off the the contents of the ration packs, but have now decided to split them up into their individual entree meals. The snack and drinks pack are common to them both, so future BCC videos will be shorter (around 10mins) and just looking at the meals themselves. I'll probably still dip into the drink packs to wash them down though!
