This one took me some minutes, and I like that: ( 4a - 8 ) / 15a x 5a² / ( 3a - 6 ) = ( 20a³ - 40a² ) / ( 45a² - 90a ) = ( 4a² - 8a ) / ( 9a - 18 ) = 4a . ( a - 2 ) / ( 9 . ( a - 2) ) = 4a / 9

You are going to have known factoring in everything moving forward Algebra 1 and 2 Geometry , Trigonometry, and Calculus This skill HAS to become mastered.

Would it be incorrect to reduce it to 2√a/3 ?

I like trying to do problems like this in my head because it really helps concentration. Obviously I get 100% of them right if I have a piece of paper.

The solution looks good and simple. But I really needed the teacher on this one. :(

got it after all the factoring. thanks for the fun.

Factoring indeed! What I need is to remember the tools and when to apply them.

Factoring of course but first some dancing with fractions: a/b / c/d = a/b x d/c = ad / bc or a fraction divided by a fraction is the first fraction multiplied with the inversed second So (20a³ - 40a²) / (45a² - 90a) = 4(a²-2a) / 9(a-2) = 4/9 . a(a-2) / (a-2) = 4a/9

[(4a -8) / 15a] * [5a²/(3a-6)] First fraction: (4a -8) / 15a Numerator: 4(a - 2) Denominator: 15a New fraction: [4(a-2)] / 15a Second Fraction: 5a² / (3a - 6) Numerator: 5a² Denominator: 3(a - 2) New Fraction: 5a² / [3(a-2)] Problem becomes: [[4(a - 2)] / 15a] * [5a² / [3(a-2)] Reductions: 5a² and 15a can reduce down to a and 3 you can also cancel out (a-2) (4/3) * (a/3) Final Solution: 4a/9 Super simple my students learn this roughly in the first half of their 7th school year. If trying to follow my explanation sorry it is so convoluted by the limitations of computer typing.

too much talk for a refresher but pretty good for a first time lesson.

I am a refresher... last calculus lessons were in 1984. After I retired in 2022 I volunteered for weekly extra math lessons to students on Curaçao. So this math refreshment is very welcome !

What proof do you have to show that most cannot do this? Why do you keep saying this?
