If you are new here and are wondering why we are shooting these animals in particular the cats. They are all invasive non native animals that are a problem here at these piggeries. The cats are also a major threat to the native animals here in Australia. None of these cats are pets nor can they be re-homed. This is the most humane and cost effective way to deal with these feral pests.
I have been advised by KZbin to include a more description here.
So If you don't want to see invasive feral pest animal being shot, then I suggest that you change the channel now. As this is what my channel is all about. I don't glorify what I do but I do put my videos up for others to watch and enjoy and also to learn from.
If you choose to watch and then decide to leave abusive or negative comments, they and possibly you will be removed. Also this is not the place for political or religious beliefs, any comment relating to either of these will also be removed.

My father told me, he served in the communications army, they had such a serious problem with rats on a radar base in the mid-1970s that the authorities of my country (Poland) suspected sabotage and diversion there. And it was the rats that multiplied so much that they gnawed even thick, specialized communication cables in protective armor, not to mention power cables. It was only the call of professional rat-catchers that helped to fight them, when they discovered the main rat nest, they ordered everyone to evacuate from this military unit, and then in anti-chemical clothing they treated them with some better dirty, it could even be some kind of combat gas. Then these rats were selected with shovels, literally the entire 5-ton truck was filled with them, tens of thousands of pieces. And the problem is gone. I problem znikł.

Yes chemical warfare on these rats would be a very quick remedy, sadly there are too many other limitations in the use of such chemicals. The poison baits that are used is highly regulated, so Air rifle is another good option to help out.

The rat shots at 4.48, 7.57, and 9.22 were particularly instructive. They appear to show kills by gross cardiopulmonary shock instead of the usual death by cerebral penetration or chordal interruption. Evidently, when the cardiopulmonary function is destroyed, the brain continues to function to maintain for at least a short period the voltage potential across gateway cells along the motor neural pathway. Those cells remain closed, halide ions don't flood them, therefore the leg muscles don't twitch. By the time the brain closes down, the ions have denatured and no longer cause the motor neurons to fire. Instructive.

on average how many rats do you shoot and does it have enough of an impact to get rid of them at a pig farm for instance, I've been watching a number of videos about invasive species and the control on them and genuinly interested but never really found an answer to all of my questions
@SouthOZHobbyHunter
@SouthOZHobbyHunter 2 жыл бұрын
Most night we shoot between 100-500 but we have managed to get over 700 twice in one night work. Does this have an impact on the overall rat population? Yes, of course it does but we really need to visit more often to really make an impact. A rat can have anywhere from 2 to 12 babies in a litter and have a gestation period of approximately 28 days. We have trouble getting out to the farms and only go there every 4-6 weeks in that time the rats have bread up again but there is always the effect that the poison bait have on the rats as well. We are slowly seeing a reduction in rat activity but this could just be because it is winter here and they are tucked up warm under the pig pens.

@@SouthOZHobbyHunter for the amount of shooting you do it's worth ever penny/cent. My garden is swarming with vermin, but I've got to save up for even a basic set up. May even be just a springer. But most shooting will have to be done after dark, as that's when they are active. So a good nighttime scope and IR set up I'm researching atm.

How many reds you get in that thing is one at a time or you have a mag ?? Why do you shoot the cats usally they're good for mice and rats ,unless they're to stuffed to hunt them down anny more ????

The FX Impact has a 28 shot magazine and we get about 150-170 shot from a tank of air. These feral cats do very little to control the rats but do like to eat the native fauna which is the main reason I hunt them, as well as the farmers have also asked me to shoot them.

Most cats won't tackle a full-grown rat: they're likely to fight (and bite) back. They go after mice and young rats. This is why feral cats aren't a great idea. Dogs, like terriers, are superior to cats when it comes to killing.

out of curiosity, I understand the pigeons and rats, however I'd think that the cats would help with the rat problems a bit. then again I know nothing of a pig farm and what cats do. it's foreign to me, though I understand the need to keep a feline population down on a standard farm even if I didn't agree with it at the time
@tgardner866
@tgardner866 2 жыл бұрын
You would think that cats would be some sort of solution. However, its the opposite. Cats wipe out native species. They are highly effective and efficient hunters. They are invasive to this particular ecosystem.
@SouthOZHobbyHunter

Sadly these cats don't help in controlling the rat population regardless of popular beliefs. they prefer to go for the less aggressive and defenseless native animals.

Some people here want to try this for themselves and use KZbin to learn from. What gear they need, different techniques and many other things can be learnt from watching this type of thing. Other people can't hunt due to country restriction or physical abilities and enjoy watching it through my scopes. I started off watching UK ratting videos and a few USA and South African pigeon video and that I what got me into doing my own.
