Yes, exactly! When their eyes start to go, it's best to just let them retire and live out the rest of their days as your lap dog. Not a good idea to have a dog running into things unnecessarily!

Bindi is SUCH A GOOD GIRL! I love how much she trusts you, even when you do something "strange" like pick her up and put her over the fence. The time and love you put into training all your animals is so evident. My only suggestion of something to keep an eye on, as a person who grew up with female pitbulls and who has only owned female pitbulls - at some point when Bindi and Juno get to about 6 or 7 you are probably going to have some dominance struggle issues between the two of them. It's happened with every other female/female pairing I've owned.

Sorry to hear Leia's eyes are going, my little rat dog has cataracts too, so its hard to watch her be so terribly disappointed! Might need to watch out for accidental bites on anything that moves, may take a while for her to adjust to not being hyperalert. Mines been snapping a bit at the cats, not her usual, and I suspect thats part if it. Watching Juno and Bindi work together really points up how freaking intelligent Bindi is in comparison. Juno does well, and loved seeing her in the coop learning, but man, Bindi is really something special.

Fun video, well made and full of action. At first I thought the 6 in a row by Juno broke Boss' record, but then his was in open field. Still an awesome job by her and, as you noted, an excellent training opportunity. Looked like a perfect hunt site for your crew & they nailed it. Very sad to learn of Leia's diminishment - I had not noticed it, she's been very productive in her last few videos, but obviously you see far more than we do. Sorry to hear about Leia. Her size is beneficial seeing Juno and Bindi are more oriented with open land and larger gaps and openings. A terrier mix or smaller hound would be very important if Leia continues to show signs of diminishing health. Good luck with Leia and best of luck with finding the right dog to add to your crew.

I would be really surprised if you found a Miniature Pinscher who would work for very long! I mean sure there are pet bred dogs like that who will catch two or three rats just fine, but once you start pushing it to 2 or 3 dozen in a day most dogs have to have some serious breeding behind them to keep working. We've had situations where each of my dogs have caught close to 100 rats EACH in a day! That's a real test of what kind of dog you have! Most pet dogs will catch a rat or two but most become soft long before they approach a dozen rats in a day, let alone 50-100 in a day! Working bred Russells and Jagdterriers are both working breeds bred to work, so of course many of them are great at ratting.

Please look into a straight Whippet. They are AMAZING family dogs and highly prey driven. If they aren’t trained and they go after prey you can’t catch them, they are lightning fast and fit into really small spaces.
