Could you please react to GRIMA's "Flight of the Silver Storm"? I like that band.

I think 'core music is taking over for now from BM like this. The legacy BM bands are just wallowing in pretentiousness at this point.

Dreadful. They clearly don't know what direction to take, the song is a mish-mash of styles and it goes nowhere fast. When Behemoth went from amazing pagan BM to Hot Topic, plastic-sounding, satanic DM, I stopped caring. Last release i liked was the "Bewitching the Pomerania" EP.

I am not gonna lie: I did like their "Morbid Angel worship" era.

@@rautabeyond No problem, each to their own. They stole from Nile, too, after touring with them. It's one thing if you wanna experiment and I'm all for it, it's quite another thing to COMPLETELY change your sound after touring with a bigger band, because you wanna get as big as they are. It shows your goal is fame, not expressing yourself through music. Didn't like the uberloud, compressed production, either. It works for industrial metal bands, but not for them. Same reason why I stopped listening to Kataklysm. (Funnily enough, in recent years Nergal started railing against "modern, plastic production" as well, after using exactly those production values he now pretends to hate for years and years, simply because Fenriz mentioned how much he hated it and it became trendy to do so, which once again clearly shows what a lame trendhopper he truly is). Anyway,as far as I'm concerned, if I want to hear Morbid Angel or Nile, I'm going to listen to their records, I don't need Behemoth's second-rate version of that sound. It's a real shame they chose such a career move, because their early Pagan BM stuff is and always will be, really killer.

The word you're looking for is "copied", not "stolen" (an old piracy conversation reference here). Sometimes also these ideas are commented as "worship" or "tribute" in many cases where a band does it's own "version" of a given style. As for Behemoth: I agree that they pretty much hopped from one style to another (from that pagan BM to modern DM and then again two modern BM). So we could say that Behemoth has three different eras in their music. Now that you mentioned Darkthrone: they have at least four or five different eras: from early death metal to raw black metal, to more like black metal crust, to heavy metal and now some crappy proto metal. Yeah I would choose Nile and Morbid Angel over Behemoth any day. Then again, I would choose Morbid Angel over 99% of death metal and black metal anyway, so there's that! Both these bands are among my fav DM ones only topped by a few acts like DEATH and BOLT THROWER. Be it as it many, Behemoth became the biggest BM band out there. We can discuss this more on Rauta channel.

@@rautabeyond Ok: They "borrowed" from Nile as well. 😁 I love old Morbid Angel (demos plus first 3 albums) a lot, Bolt Thrower and early Death are amazing too. I'm into old-school DM/Deathrash, bands like Master, Necrophagia, Revenant, Massacre, Massacra, Unleashed, Autopsy, Murder Squad, Agressor, Entombed, Benediction, Obituary, Jungle Rot, Thanatos, Pentacle, Possessed, Deceased and so on. I like some technical DM as well, I like Nile a lot, for ex, but that's my favourite take on DM: OSDM/Deathrash, nothing to beat it imo.
