At this point, being targeted by ANTIFA is like a badge of honor and a major selling point for those who like their extreme metal truly extreme and hateful. If someone came to me and asked what are some good metal bands to check out, I would say start with any band canceled by ANTIFA. Part of the art of war is to use the enemy's efforts to your advantage. This is much more simple than one might think in this situation.

l think a huge part of the popularity of NSBM, or bands accused of being so, has to do with these kind of actions. Fascist metal and punk has been around since the 80’s but always were rather obscure, and no one really bothered. Not having any dog in the fight but if you put in sketchy symbols/lyric you know people are going to react. Whether these people are right or wrong is another debate. Personally I do not care that much but I am kind of getting tired of bands suddenly act all surprised. You cannot have your cake and eat it too. I'm glad antifascists got some of the best extreme music in existence and don't need to rely on BM. Like Misantropic, Adrestia, Wolfbrigade, Warcollapse, Skitsystem and so on. But if you want pure BM there is the Antifascist Black Metal Network, with some awesome albums. Dödsrit and Rană are some of the best blackened crust bands i can think of.

Firstly, I would like to say that I agree with how it’s a negative that Antifa isn’t its own organization and more just a movement. Considering that anybody can do something in their name. For example, many antifascists in Germany support Israel, which is just not a position which the rest of the world’s antifascists take. I also agree that many antifascists are very strict about how you act. Leftism has been corrupted by a high sense of individualism and moral correctness. Instead of organizing and trying to educate people, it’s more about being right in how you act and think. Canceling shows of suspected fascists is not a problem. If these people are in fascists, they would have no problem, denouncing fascism. Although many sketchy bands might not be outright fascists, they can still have fascist sympathies. Now I could not care less if someone listens to Horna, Impaled Nazarene, Marduk or Taake. I myself listen to many sketchy bands, and even own their CDs and merch (although I only buy it used). The problem with many antifascists is that bands like Impaled Nazarene can spread their harmful beliefs without much pushback. I get the most people in the metal scene, especially in the black metal scene are white straight cis males who aren’t affected by the lyrics of Impaled Nazarene. Because these lyrics don’t affect them that doesn’t mean they are right or acceptable. It is very common to see men getting offended when feminists say something like "all men". This is why I think the argument is kind of hypocritical. Just because these lyrics don’t affect you doesn’t mean they aren’t a big deal. It’s easy to feel like you’re in the right and this is not a big deal because the lyrics are not about you.

You could be singing about how much you love your grandma's cookies, if it just sounds like "blegh blegh bluuugh" I couldn't give less of a crap. I'd be going out of my way to flip open the book and read "my grandma is so good to me, she makes the best shortbread cookies" just so I could say I didn't like it. Why expend the effort?
