Rav4 off road. Strata Florida full version

Taking on strata Florida it was great and very challenging in a few places.

Interesting to watch, thanks. My wife and I are looking at options for a 'small' 4x4 to give us more access to remote places around us and we've been looking in particular at the Vitara or Rav$, so it's great to see one doing what we would be doing. Thanks again

Hi mate, thanks for the comment, they are better than expected but if I had my choice again I would go with the diesel option. The vitara is a great option too and probably better due to it having low range so more control when you need it. Thanks again 👍🏻

That’s sounds nice mate. There is a way of turning off traction control when you get stuck as that won’t help when that happens. Can’t remember exactly how but I found it on google.

which suspension lift kit did you use and have you fitted a diff lock?. Thanks I'm running a mk2 d4d

Hi mate. I bought a 40mm tema 4x4 kit from eBay it was around £180. It doesn’t have a diff lock just a torsion rear diff. Also I wish I bought the d4d as it has better torque and better mpg. 👍🏻

sorry if i missed it, but what PSI did you air down to for this trip?

Hi mate. I didn’t air down much they were on about 32 psi. I should have aired down to about 20psi to be honest as we were bounced around a bit and I’m surprised I didn’t get a puncture or lose much grip. Lessons learnt. 👍🏻

Do you have a centre locker on your rav

Hi mate, no I do t have a centre locker it’s just permanent 4wd with viscous coupling unit - VCU that act like a locker when front or rear wheels start losing traction. It’s not great though but it’s better than nothing. 👍🏻

Yeah I just purchased the o4 rav4 cruiser mine doesn’t have the centre locker either mine has Vehicle control ABS (antilock brakes) Traction Electronic stability EBD (electronic brake force distribution) Differential Centre differential Viscous coupling It’s a very tidy rav only 120,000 km on the clock

I just found it. Don’t know if it works but this is what was on google. Disable trc vsc 1 turn on car 2 clutch in 3 press brake then brake and hold 4 hand brake 2 times 5 brake 2 times

Hi mate I’ve got standard springs and shocks with a 40mm lift kit. But the problem I’ve found d is that standard rear springs seem to vary in length and don’t do well with weight in the back so I will be upgrading the rear to old man emu soon, not sure if I will do the front though as the front seems to be higher. 👍🏻

@@rav4offroad Very cool I have a 2002 rav4 that I am supercharging and trying to figure out what suspension to run. I think I will end up using the OME rear springs as well.

Hi mate. Standard length springs with 40mm lift kit and the tyres make it a bit higher too as they are 235/70/16. 👍🏻

Hi mate. Whichever way you meant that - they were challenging and had to get out a few times and pick a good line, but it’s quite narrow in places so you don’t have much choice. Or if you meant it the other way strata Florida is well known byway/trail in wales it’s also marked out in places along the trail and on o/s maps. Cheers 👍🏻
