+Alex Papoutsakis okay, explain me why you think so. You have read both manga, until the last chapter, right? I give you my opinion in 5 points, in most objective way i can: 1) PLOT: in Rave the plot is linear e clear, Haru have to find the rave stones, for save the world from Demon Card (the main enemy of the serie), and everything turns around this. FT (and Mashima say this) is about the daily life, like guild-mission-guild-mission... in the first part, and there isn't a thread tha bins one saga to the other. There isn't a base plot until Zeref and Acnologia introduction... then, from the from this point on, Mashima starts to give a plot to his manga. But 200 chapters (2/3 of Rave Master duration) are without connection, or better, each saga could have come in each other order, and it would not change much. But the plot of FT is highly repetitive. What are the reasons behind the most of Fairy Tail arc? An enemy (another guild, dark guild or other) attacks FT members, or it poses a threat, and FT start a war against them. Phantom Lord? Luxus? Edolas? Grimoire Heart on Tenrou? The dragons at the Magic Games? Tartaros? And now, Alvarez with Zeref and the spriggan 12... always the same story, each time a war, but they are not always going to protect the world, only fights for the guild and nakama. 2) DRAWING: Mashima style is good for both manga, and I can't say he draw bad... i prefere Rave style, but here it's all down to personal taste. 3) CHARACTERS: most of FT characters are stereotypes, for example Natsu the hot-head protagonist, or Erza, the girl strong outside, fragile inside... or each villain that is not a real villain, with empathetic past... Okay, also Rave has stereotypes, like Haru or Elie, but Rave was written before these become main stereotypes that we see in every manga today... Rave started in the same period of Naruto, a little time later One Piece, and before Bleach, where these stereotypes weren't still stereotypes... I hope you understand what i mean... But there's another point for the FT characters, the design. Most of their designs are MERELY COPIED by Rave Master characters (and I hate this fact, because Jellal is nothing compared to Sieghart... Cobra is nothing to Shuda, Happy nothing to Plue, etc...), or to other manga, like One Piece (Gildarts is Shanks? the Oracion seis are "little similar" to some shichiibukai). And the worst thing it that Mashima not only copy the designs from Rave to FT, but also name of things or organizations (Oracion Seis?), and also events (Jellal that defeat all the Oracion Seis? Sieghart in Rave did the same thing with the OS, for example). Only BAD COPIES (or most of them). Better in FT are the character's backgrounds, treated with more details for the protagonists. 4) BATTLES AND LOGIC: except for the first... 100 chapters of FT, where there are some good battles, then in this manga there isn't logic!!! Each time, the villain is superior in terms of strenght and power, and the "good ones" were injured a lot... then, they thinks to the nakama, the family, the guild... and they obtain a "miracolous power-up", and win with NO LOGIC! (an example? Erza vs Azuma, the protagonist vs Hades, all battles in Tartaros Arc, Wendy-Sheila vs DiMaria, Luxus vs Wahl, Gajeel vs Bradman... and more). They win always because they are the "good one" and they have to win. In Rave, yes, the are also some victories because "they are the protagonists", but the most of the Rave fights are won with superiority, logic or sacrifice (this thing doesn't exist in FT, because the fairies never die... or, if one of them dies, he/she resurrects randomly in the next chapter... nosense). 5) FANSERVICE: in Rave the fanservice is limited, there is but moderate. Fairy Tail IS FANSERVICE! With this word, I will not point the only nudity scenes... these are only a part of the "fanservice" (Lucy ends up naked in each saga, just an example), but also: the usual speeches (repeated endlessly) about the family, bonds, etc... the chapters covers... the fandom about the couples inside the manga... the power of the emotions and the miracles of the "good ones"... and also the fact that in FT no one of the faries die! Think on it, this manga goes on with wars... but it's possibile that no one (neither lower importat characters, like Macao, Wakaba, Droy, etc..) dies?!!! Oh, no... the fans love that guild, so Mashima makes wars on wars, but no one dies (maybe some villain, maybe), a lot of sense *facepalm*. Or, if one of them dies, then resurrect ONE chapter later (Gray? Gajeel? Juvia?). The first one of the guild that is died is Makarov... AFTER 500 CHAPTERS of wars!!! Logic? No, only fanservice... in Rave there is more and more reliability and consistency. If you had read this all (forgive me for the lenght and my bad english), i think you have undestood what I mean. Except for the point 2 (the drawing), RAVE MASTER IS A LOT BETTER THAN FAIRY TAIL. If you love good ones that wins always with no sense, the same speeches on bonds or what means to be a family, or you are a fan of one of the characters... then you obviously could prefere FT, but these are no valid reasons, they are subjective... This (very long) messagge of main is not made to do polemico, just to talk... in the end, "each to his own taste", I've only explained (in the more objective way possibile) my reasons. Yeah, Makarov dies in a war... after 500 chapters of wars. Phantom Lord, little war against another guild... no one of the faries (FT members) die. Heaven Tower, little war, no fairies deaths. Luxus arc, internal war, no faries deaths. Oracion sies, little war against one of the 3 major dark guilds. No deaths. Edolas, another world, but the FT members get involved into a war against the King... no faries deaths, and one of FT (Lisanna) "resurrects" Tenrou Island, war against the most powerful (at that time) dark guild, Grimoire Heart. No one of the fairies die... Great Magic Games, the last day, with the opening of the Eclipse Gate and the dragons attack... yeah, here some people died (Gray and others), but Ultear use all her lifespan for a prohibited magic. Results? No one dies also in this war, and Ultear (who has used a mortal magic) is still alive. Tartaros arc, all-out-war against a dark guild of demons. A lot of powerups in this part, and no one of the fairies die also in this battle. Alvarez arc, all-out-war against another country, leaded by Zeref, with 12 mages level gods, and there is also Acnologia intent to kill all the dragon slayers. Result? Gajeel "has died", but he is returned after 2 chapters... Juvia "has died", but she is resurrected the chapter later... Luxus had to have died, but he's still alive... Makarov is dead (if Mashima didn't decide to resuscitate him later), after 500 chapters of wars with no victims for "the good ones", neither a character of tertiary importance... and that's not a point of view, these are the facts from this manga. *for "death", i mean "killed" or "self-sacrifice", not natural death.

What makes this scene sadder is that we have seen the skull a previously. We knew someone died and protected something for very very long time. Same here, i only heard about rave master by accident, and had no prior knowledge about thr plot, or characters. So when the Skelton showed up, j thought oh must be a anciet warrior who is still waiting, hope we get too see his backstory, then when thr reveal happend, i lost my shit, cause i was thinking we werr just gonna see sieg be stuck in the past, but thenwe learn who it was. Honestly, Mashima had huge potential to improve his writing when he started making Fairy Tail and could have made something unique. But no, he aimed for a low hanging fruit and made it with little care and love just so that he can boost his manga's popularity. J Truong I think at the end of rave or on an interview he mention that the one thing he did not like about rave master was that it wasn’t flashy, so I imagine that was his goal with fairy tail to work on his flashy ideas and besides hiro mention that for fairy tail ha had planned the characters only and I think that is what people like about the show. And for rave he did the show lot and that is what people like about rave so imagine if this sat down and fully thought about the plot and the characters

Fairy tail also has many iconic deaths, it's just overwritten by the rest of the bad plots. Like Gray's mentor sacrificing her life to keep the demon trapped in ice. Or her daughter sacrificing her life to turn back time. Igneel's death. Wendy's guild that was actually an illusion. I wouldn't say it's better, but you can see the similarities. The first season of the anime is just more iconic. Mostly cause of the emotional music that was played here as well.

This was the death that made Mashima unable to kill future characters. Seig Hart' death was so heavy that it impacted everyone in the Rave Universe. However, in his sacrifice he gave everyone what they needed to move forward and defeat Demon Card once and for all. Mashima may hate that he killed him off due to how sad his death is, but he couldn't have written it any better. It was masterfully well done. P.S - Perfect choice of BGM by the way. Would have gone great with the actual scene.

I can only imagine how scared shitless they would have been if Sieghart suddenly woke up in the midst of their grieving as a walking talking skeleton. Like with all the free time he had during his vigil he figured out some way to become undead so he could just keep going regardless of how old he got, but by the time they meet him again the strain of the years of isolation, monotony, and the state of undeath has affected his mind so drastically that he's gone totally senile and can't remember them anymore. In some ways, that might be even more heart-wrenching, because he might just keep sitting on that rock until the end of the world, not remembering who he is or why he's guarding a grave beyond the fact that he MUST do it.

The reason this moment hits so hard is that this very place, and this very corpse, were the exact things that we saw so long ago in the Symphonia arc and that first started getting us so engaged in this mystery to begin with. Partly due to this i've been re-reading the entire series, had to order the volumes from amazon since no local bookstore carries it anymore. And I finally read the volume with this scene in it today, vol. 31 if you were wondering, and I could not hold back the tears as I read it. Granted the music in this vid is a guaranteed way to make a waterfall spill from my eyes, but even without it the scene is still extraordinarily powerful, also a bit awkward since I was reading it during my lunch at work.

God, this is why this would always be way better than Fairy Tail. Not any Fairy Tail scenes even with the good OST they had, came close to having emotions and scenes like these. it was always so sub par. Now Rave isn't a great anime that would rival the best of the best, but it was a good enough series to tell a story while also not ruining it.

Rave anime is nothing special, except for the first opening, and it's not complete (hoping for a remake, but because Fairy Tail exists, and it has more and more fanservice, and so it's more popular, I think it'll never come). But yeah, the Rave manga was good... not to compete with top shonen mangas like HxH or JoJo, but a good story with some nice characters, development and twists (like that). Exceedingly better than Fairy Tail, more ripetitive in his schemes, with a tons of fanservice, and a lot of copies from Rave (and other mangas too).

It is true that the very first chapters lack the artistic quality that the same manga has after a couple of years working on it (40-70 chapters or so). But after Gale's outcome the manga just gets better in every single aspect. It's a shame the anime stopped in the beggining of the real deal (like Kenichi, good anime, better manga with the best arcs after the anime ended...)

Dude.. I havent even watched the anime. I only searched for anime skeleton in order to see the cartoonishly designed ones and then i saw the awesome looking skeleton on a picture and decided to check it out. after watching the scenes from the two episodes 50 ad 51, In worry of thinking the girl was the skeleton because of the necklace i kept researching and find the info on the wikia.. But despite my lack of seeing this.. this show.. It's just heartclenchingly tragic TTOTT How it pains to see this. I feel so sorry for the characters T~T Such a freakishly grand sacrifice.. Someone use a flippin revival spell on that guy! It's just so.. Little watching, big reaction. Sieg.. Such a big and tragic reveal it's hard to take in even for someone as inexperienced as myself.. TT~TT
