Same for me. I watched the movie first when I was in my early teens, and from time to time I remembered the music and story. (I usually forget about a movie´s story, let alone score, within weeks) So today I rented the movie once more and it´s still brilliant, in even more ways then back then. Brilliant acting, great scenery, and the soundtrack. I still get goosebumps every time this title comes on...

I'm late to the party. This one was always on my "To Watch" list, but as life goes, it never happend. I saw it on Netflix the other day (while having supper which consisted of pot roast) and decided to give it a whirl. Pure awesome! One of the best film scores of all time. This final track is a great representation. Simultaneously light-hearted, oppressive, and ultimately triumphant. It is unsettling while still being beautiful. Kudos to Albarn and Nyman for making a perfect score to a fantastic film.

It's criminally underrated. Everyone I know who I've shared it with has enjoyed it. I understand how many could be put off by the gore, but by the 1990s I figure most audiences should be prepared for that from a horror movie. This has more than gore. It's got intrigue, dark humor, and spiritual themes.

@@oddballsok I do believe it's all in person's mind. Boyd knew he was eating man's flash, same goes for Ive's and other wendigos. They knew what they were doing. I don't remember the movie as well, haven't watched it for a longer time, but Slouson just tasted it and he didn't know it was man's flesh soup. As for triumph of humanity over savagery - it's about Boyd's character. When he was struck with fear, he acted like a wild animal that is willing to survive no matter what, but in the end he realise there are fates worse than death and he decides to die a human rather then living pathetic life of a beast in a human skin.

Normally I am inspired by soundtracks from the likes of John Barry and Hans Zimmer but this movie soundtrack opened up a wonderful new door to my imagination. The movie wasn't scary, but it was a good horror film. It was gruesome, disturbing, gory, and in a way, realistic. It is a masterpiece, especially the soundtrack. It was because of the era the movie was based in and because of the music, that this movie was even a masterpiece. If they had done the music differently or it was in a different era, the same plot would not have worked elsewhere, but it worked perfectly in unison with those two aspects. It is also a somewhat realistic, relatable, down to earth, and believable film, especially with 3+ accounts in recent history from Russia and America specifically, that had similar accidents of cannibalism in similar settings, which makes this all the more better, but also disturbing. It has a dreaded sense of melancholy, hopelessness, and realism to it, and the music made it a perfect masterpiece combined with setting, basis, lore, and the era it was set in. This is one of the greatest movies of all time, and it is sad to know it is a hidden gem with little attention drawn to it.

I saw this film on a lark. Heard nothing about it. Just went in for the hell of it. I was blown away. The director did such a fucking kick ass job with this script. One of the most underrated cult films of all time.

So damn good, that I wrote a treatment immediately after the forth time I saw the movie, called RAVENOUS II: MANIFEST DESTINY. Three words: California Gold Rush. That's all I'll say...

+Kal Blaylo I wrote a story for a potential screenplay, that continues the action from Fort Spencer, into the California Gold Rush days...let that sink in for a second.

That would be interesting to see how you continued the story from the ending of the movie. Makes total sense though.

Only issue is that every character but martha is dead. Unless you made it centered around Martha I don't think it would be a legitimate sequel

I like the soundtrack of this movie, it is wonderful, a mix of folk , classic and modern music , I don't know how explain myself in english ( because I am italian), at 3:54 the music becomes solemn and very evocative ; one day in the past I was in local mountains Appennini , covered with snow, and listened to my Ravenous soundtrack CD, in my car.

There are a few films that I love which have a cult following; Treasure island (1990), Withnail and I, and Revenous. Revenous andTreasure island (1990) are probably the most underrated on that list. All have fantastic soundtracks, too.
