This Song has been stuck in my head for the last 15 years. Criminally underrated movie. A true gem. The Score is brilliant.

Same for me. I watched the movie first when I was in my early teens, and from time to time I remembered the music and story. (I usually forget about a movie´s story, let alone score, within weeks) So today I rented the movie once more and it´s still brilliant, in even more ways then back then. Brilliant acting, great scenery, and the soundtrack. I still get goosebumps every time this title comes on...

It's criminally underrated. Everyone I know who I've shared it with has enjoyed it. I understand how many could be put off by the gore, but by the 1990s I figure most audiences should be prepared for that from a horror movie. This has more than gore. It's got intrigue, dark humor, and spiritual themes.

I don't remember the movie as well, haven't watched it for a longer time, but Slouson just tasted it and he didn't know it was man's flesh soup. As for triumph of humanity over savagery - it's about Boyd's character. The movie wasn't scary, but it was a good horror film. It was gruesome, disturbing, gory, and in a way, realistic. It is a masterpiece, especially the soundtrack. It was because of the era the movie was based in and because of the music, that this movie was even a masterpiece. If they had done the music differently or it was in a different era, the same plot would not have worked elsewhere, but it worked perfectly in unison with those two aspects. It is also a somewhat realistic, relatable, down to earth, and believable film, especially with 3+ accounts in recent history from Russia and America specifically, that had similar accidents of cannibalism in similar settings, which makes this all the more better, but also disturbing. It has a dreaded sense of melancholy, hopelessness, and realism to it, and the music made it a perfect masterpiece combined with setting, basis, lore, and the era it was set in. This is one of the greatest movies of all time, and it is sad to know it is a hidden gem with little attention drawn to it.
